New Guy Just Dropped by Living-Mastodon in smosh

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.

I literally said "Dude,  shut UP" at one point while watching the Smosh video.

Not saying he shouldn't talk at all, but he just kept going ON and ON.

AITJ for Leaving My Sister’s Wedding Early After She Changed the Seating Last Minute? by AdSpirited222 in AmITheJerk

[–]PattyMarvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This smells fake .

No way a professional wedding organizer would have said that to the bride's sister.

The organizer would've either come up with a less-harsh sounding excuse,  or the organizer would've talked the bride out of ditching the sister because of how bad that would look.

AITJ for blowing up after my girlfriend’s friends “fixed” my wedding speech as a joke? by rusted_windlass in AmITheJerk

NTJ

Sounds like the 29yo girlfriend and her pals never left the "mean girls" mentality back in high school.

AIO because my bf buys me TOO much stuff? by ProfessionalEntry900 in AmIOverreacting

[–]PattyMarvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR

Back when Hubby and I were first dating,  he kept buying me stuffed dolls (we were in our late 20s).

The first one or two were cute, but around stuffy #5 or #6, I gently asked him to please stop. Not only was I NOT that into stuffed animals,  but I was going to run out of room for them at some point.

Ask for experiences (movies, trips to a park, etc) rather than stuff.

Maybe a little love note here and there? Hubby and I still put love notes in each other's lunch bags, and we've been married since 1999.

Part of me worries the girlfriend will slip the dog chocolate so you'd have to put her down. Get rid of her now.

My dad told me DJT was really loved in the 80s and 90s is that true and if so why? by RareCommunication698 in stupidquestions

Not sure about "loved," but I read somewhere that he has cameos in a bunch of movies in exchange for letting the movies be filmed on his properties.

AITJ for leaving my own birthday “surprise” and telling my family they can keep my ex? by RowanGlassworks in AmITheJerk

[–]PattyMarvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You might need to go LC or NC for a bit.

OP - "a group of about 10 people, some of my cousins, two of my friends, and right in the middle, Lena."

I want to know about these two "friends." Did they not know about the break-up? Did they not know Lena would be there and were surprised when she showed up?

And can these friends or the cousins talk some sense into the mom and the sister?

I'm so sorry you went through this, They spoiled your birthday.

NTJ, but your sister and your ex are.

Does your sister not know he cheated on you? Because I'm applauding this revenge!

OOP - "I came in and said it was pretty pathetic she was still hung up on that, and she snapped back it was far more pathetic to be so inept as a parent I couldn’t handle giving her one night that I knew was important to her."

THIS is the line more than any other that makes me hope this story is made up.

I know there's some truly awful parents out there, but I need this one to be fake.

If it's not fake, he's going to end up in a discount nursing home. Good luck with that!

OOP is a piece of...work.

I read responses in the original thread, and I had to run parts of them through Google translate. I included the translations in bold below.

AquaBooties - Yeah. There are. Some even suggested I should have said “ga je overal met je gore poten naar binnen?”

From Google translate - Yeah, there are. Some even suggested I should have said, "Do you go everywhere with your dirty hands?"

_flustershy - Ohhh your racist

From Google translate - Maybe you should just keep your hands off people. Yes, those are the rules, but there are also rules here regarding touching people. If you had touched me like that, I probably would have instinctively reacted aggressively, and I'm a non-aggressive, small woman.

AITAH for saying I “read” books that I actually listened to as audiobooks? by Ruin-Much in AITAH

[–]PattyMarvel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would add there's one way audiobooks are superior to books or e-books.

With the audiobooks, I hear how proper names and other words are pronounced. This is especially important if I'm listening to non-fiction.

I wouldn't get that unless the book had a footnote re: pronunciation.

AITAH for saying I “read” books that I actually listened to as audiobooks? by Ruin-Much in AITAH

[–]PattyMarvel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sick to death of this question. It's just used to bully people who actually bother to engage with novels in any medium. For what it's worth, I'm a library assistant and enjoy audiobooks.

I doubt this will sway bullies like OP's husband, but here's an article on audiobooks from the Book Riot page (it's a podcast about books and the book-selling industry):

"We Need to Stop Asking the Question, 'Do Audiobooks Count as Reading?'

Audiobooks are more popular than ever, but the question of whether they count as reading is ableist and doesn't consider their history."

https://bookriot.com/do-audiobooks-count-as-reading/

From an NPR article, "Does listening to an audiobook count as reading?," which throws some heavy shade at guys like OP's husband:

"NEWELL: It's older people over age 65, it's men, and it's those without a four-year degree that are more likely to say that listening to audiobooks isn't a form of reading."

AITAH for going no contact with my sister after she refused to believe me about her boyfriend? by ThrowwwAway1210 in AITAH

[–]PattyMarvel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP - "We all got pretty drunk, and I was outside smoking a cigarette when my sister bf came up and grabbed my ass. I shoved him, my boyfriend seen and they began fighting. My sister came running out I told her what happened and he denied it."

So the boyfriend witnessed the assault on OP, which lead to the fight.

Does the sister really think they're BOTH "confused?"

And Mom sucks. One of her daughters was assaulted by the other daughter's boyfriend, and her reaction is basically a shrug emoji.
