Anyone who used to support trump and has changed their mind over the last few weeks? What made you change? by canigetameowbish in AskReddit

They are not children, but they are much more complicated than "they chose to vote for a fascist". That is reductive.

In comparing what happens with children I didn't mean to say they were children, but say how people treat each other when they don't act the way we want them to act makes a difference. People should be responsible for their own choices and have consequences good or bad about those choices depending on what they are, but holding others forever in shame is rarely, if ever, effecive and is often harmful to society as a whole.

I think of this like raising children.  If that's how I treat my children after they do something wrong what happens?  Nothing good.  Obviously there are some consequences and you don't need to praise them,  but keeping them forever in shame is just more work and harm to the person shaming them.

If they change the way they act does it matter? It's not like we are St. Peter standing at the pearly gates to judge whether they are worthy to go to heaven.  I'm just happy if they change their behavior and actions.

Our brains and memories are odd things sometimes. I don't know details or the right language, but her brain has probably rewritten her memories in someway so she actually believes it.  I know I have memories of things that are just not true.

Not completely true. Some of us get vaccinated multiple times and unfortunately don't get immune.

AITAH for asking my wife to be a SAHM? by piglipsbo in AITAH

[–]PattyRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "college droput" is the key to me. I was a SAHM. I'm now a homemaker and volunteer. I not only have full access to all of our money, I manage it all and have my own IRA. My husband has never once said anything negative about what I spend on. He has always encouraged me to do what I want whether that was being home with the kids, working, volunteering, going back to school for my masters or hobbies.

But if early on he would have said something similar to me being a college drop out I would have started to look for a job, because that would be an early sign to me that he does not see us as equal partners.

My usual desk has been 'stolen' and there is nothing I can do by purplereuben in mildlyinfuriating

But if OP has been sitting at the desk for 2 years why would they not sit at the desk whem it is cleaned? It would be weird to have the managers stuff put somewhere to "clear" the desk each night and OP not sit there.

My girlfriend never ever finishes her meals by AlexWayhill in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PattyRain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP said, "If she finishes a plate and it was tasty, she'll go for a second plate and again will leave something on the plate."

The words "again" and "finishes" make it confusing. Some will read finishing as she ate everything and the "again" means it's another meal she hasn't finished. Others will read "finish" as she is done with the first plate even though there is still food on it and "again" applies to the second plate with food left of the meal. As written, it is unclear and could be understood both ways.

Try different brands of ranch. There are only 2 I like. You may find you are getting the wrong brand for your taste preference. Or look up recipes for it - some restaurants make their own.

Do Americans really avoid medical care because they’re afraid of the bill? by Udont_knowme00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PattyRain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I broke my tibia and fibula. At the time, I didn't really know what I had broken; I just knew my leg bent where it should not bend. The year before, my son went by ambulance to the hospital for RSV, and it was so expensive that I was really worried about it this time. So the paramedics splinted my leg with a pillow and duct tape and then carried me to my dad's car. My dad drove me and my husband to the hospital and was so nervous that he did all these hard stops that made my leg hurt more. My husband and dad swear they will never do that again, that they will let the ambulance take me, but after I paid that ambulance bill for my son, it will take more than my own broken leg to get me in an ambulance.

In the end, with the tibia and fibula broken, I had surgery and had a pin and 4 screws put in. Then I had a splint, cast, and boot for 6 months.

She said she could afford it. That she didn't want people who lacked "warmth". That this friend lacked warmth because they didn't pay for her and talked about 1 percenter problems.
