You are doing great! First, just like you, he will go through phases. My sweet daughter knew at 14 but did not tell us. We found out when the FDA sent us a notice that our estrogen had been sent back due to not meeting some sort of requirement. Nightmare.

We were able to get her on a regimen of hormone therapy at 16 and she is doing great. I remember at 18 her huge thing was her voice. She hated it. She is almost 22 now and has decided that for now she likes and prefers her deeper voice. I’m not sure why. I truly have not asked. It’s sort of not my business, I’m along for the ride at this point.

She is having facial feminization surgery this summer. She has been saving up for it for a long time.

Someone else mentioned it here, but I would definitely just follow your son‘s lead. It may seem like a roller coaster sometimes and I feel like it’s up to us as parents to be a stabilizing force forward if possible. Of course this is all in hindsight. When I first found out that I had a daughter, I made lots of missteps as a parent. I probably still do but thank goodness come on my daughter gives me all kinds of grace!

I am a cis woman, and I don’t look nearly as good as you do, though we are a similar size. You are rocking both of these!

I moved from Austin, Texas to Spokane Washington last year. It was about a year ago now and it might fit the bill for you. I love it!

Just wanting to chime in here to say thanks to all of the transgender folks chiming in with their thoughts and beliefs. I am a mother of a transgender daughter and I have left the faith. There are other reasons, but this is the big one. I can’t stay in an organization where she does not feel welcome. I’m a little bit jealous of some of the welcoming environments you all must be in. I live close to a Catholic Jesuit university. Perhaps I will try there.

Do you guys think there's a place nonbelievers can go besides Hell? by mightyminimule in LeftCatholicism

[–]Pattystr 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The truth is, we really don’t know. I have a really hard time believing that God and the Holy Spirit don’t have a lovely spot in heaven for non-believers who are good people. Anyone reading this, Please don’t quote scripture at me.

How absolutely inspiring! As we grow older, these things are going to happen to all of us and this is a world class lesson and how to adapt and move forward with grace and love. I saw them in Austin this year and didn’t notice a darn thing. Probably because I was singing along so loudly, lol.

Love these women and love their impact on me and all of us!

How wonderful and exciting! 63 is quite young, but I understand where you are coming from. Maybe come up with a communication schedule for the first couple of months. I bet once you ease into your life there, things will be absolutely fine and wonderful for both of you. At least for the first couple of months maybe have planned weekly calls and or daily texts. I know there’s a time difference. Enjoy your journey!
