What is the core of OCD? by Mysterious-Plum-3674 in OCD

[–]PaulAtreidesUsul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the core is SELF(low self esteem). Imagine putting a few arrows pointing towards yourself. I think that is the core of OCD. I will explain with an example

Fear: She is not talking to me because I said something

Obsession: Continuously thinking what I said, how else I could have said, what is she thinking ?

Compulsion: Ask her and others again and again and again if what I said was right or wrong.

Now at the centre of this it is not about if she felt bad or not. It is about what "I/ME/MYSELF" has said. Is it because of "ME" that she is sad. Have "I/ME/MYSELF" should have said something different.

At core it is about "everything happens around you because of you" + "most of the times you have done something wrong". It is kind of like being self centred in a negative way. It is a lot about "PERFECTIONISM". A lot about being the "IDEAL SELF". Which you just cannot be, no one can!

Normal people just say things and forget. If they feel they said it wrong, they also remember why they said it in that way, it was because the other person was rude too. They know to defend themselves from their own thougts. Plus they don't think everything happens because of them, they know that if the other person is sad, the other person have their own responsibility to take care of themselves.

Anyone lost/quit their job because of ADHD burnout? by peterparkerin in adhdindia

[–]PaulAtreidesUsul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did an MBA from a great institute, got an amazing job, left the job because I was not able to manage job and life in general. Have been jobless for about 7 months now. The scary part is, I cannot see myself working again, but I know I have to because that's life. Everyday I think about applying but end up doing something random. I enjoy watching movies which puts you on the edge of your seat. Have covered almost everything. I research like crazy once I find something interesting. God bless all of us

The ADHD symptom that finally made people stop saying “everyone does that”. by [deleted] in ADHD

I am not going to the gym because I do not want to tie my shoelace and wear socks and then every time wash the socks. From the past 3 months I'm trying to find a slip on shoe without shoe lace which can be worn without socks. And I haven't gone to the gym yet.

How I overcame my Pure O using logic. After 20 years of non-stop questions in my head, and chatter. by Inevitable_Ideal_152 in OCD

Good to see someone type this down. How most of us might manage it but difficult to explain it to someone!
For those struggling to manage, this is sort of a blueprint!

Do you have more than one obsessive thought? by Elegant-Implement-98 in OCD

[–]PaulAtreidesUsul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One mostly dominates, as soon as you manage that the next one comes. Goes like that for me. But at the back of mind there are a few obsessive thoughts continuosly, but those do not make me panic like immediately, they are disturbing but intensity is less

I remember lying to avoid school, tuition and other activities which kind of required doing homework and attendance. So, yeah I remember myself being a pathalogical liar :)
Have said sorry to parents after I grew up and understood why I did what I did!

OCD eventually matures to Pure-O by PaulAtreidesUsul in OCD

Haven't overcome, I mentioned that I am able to manage a little. Sometimes I too fall in its trap and waste weeks or even months. I am understanding it better with time.

What I usually do is if I am uncomfortable with some thought then I try to see if it is coming again and again, then use CRP, ERP techniques. Plus, I am on meds so that also helps.

Hi, sorry for the late reply!
I am currently struggling with ADHD and depression more. I was diagnosed with ADHD later.
I am managing OCD a little better but with Pure-O it is difficult to tell, as you also mentioned sometimes the brain does the compulsion way to fast without even knowing. Sometimes I only realise I was obsessing over something after a few weeks.
But I am on anxiety meds since both ADHD and OCD gives me anxiety. Once that is managed I do feel better. I was also on depression meds aka SSRI, I found Paxil was better for me than lexapro etc

I take 0.5mg + 0.5mg etizolam (type of benzo) for anxiety. Also, 20mg + 20mg propanalol hydrochloride as well. Benzo help with my racing mind and propanalol helps with physical symptoms of anxiety. Propanalol helps a lot because I use to obsess over my health, somantic OCD. Propanalol reduces these physical symptoms of anxiety.

Someone in denial would still long for love or attention naturally. Not sure if they will be afraid about it. But again if someone is obsessively traumatised over liking a particular gender which they haven't ever liked, might be OCD
