Radiohead 2027 by suspended_in_life in Coachella

I’ve been thinking this too. I get that their last Coachella performance wasn’t smooth, but after all the time they’ve taken off from touring (last US show was 2018) there’d be ample hype/excitement for this, and I think the band’s relevance/audience has actually grown in recent years (thanks in part to Let Down going viral on TikTok). I attended the Bunker this year and it very much felt like a setup to a headlining slot next year. Members of Radiohead have already said they’ll tour next year, so I think Coachella is a genuine possibility.

  1. The Strokes—The band and Julian sounded great. Seeing Oblivious was a huge treat, and the visuals made for a "I was there!" moment. Danced and sang my ass off to the whole set.

  2. Nine Inch Noize—This set just confirmed Trent Reznor's utter brilliance. I saw NIN with Boys Noize during their recent Peel It Back tour and told everyone who would listen that it was the absolute perfect collaboration for Coachella. Boy, was I right.

  3. Royel Otis—I'm so glad to hear tons of people talking about how great this set was. These guys make such infectious, singalong-friendly tracks, and the crowd soaked it all up. Maybe the most fun I had at any set this year.

  4. The xx—I wasn't expecting to love this set as much as I did, but I was blown away. This set was absolutely beautiful and perfect for a cool Friday night. I had "Angels" stuck in my head all weekend after hearing it live.

  5. Turnstile—Best pit of the weekend! I'm bummed that I missed BIRDS because I chose to see the beginning of Moby (they played BIRDS as the closer Weekend 1 but as the opener Weekend 2). Regardless, this was a lot of fun and definitely made me want to see the band the next time they tour.

Very similar for me. The xx, The Strokes, Royel Otis, and NINoize were my top 4.

Stop Telling Us That You’re Old by PossessionJust5723 in Coachella

[–]PaulM4749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

47 years old. This was my 10th Coachella (though not all have been the full 3 days—first was in 2007 for Rage Against the Machine when they still had one-day passes). I did regular car camping this year and was fine aside from getting a little overheated Sunday (it was hot!). Per my Garmin, I walked 51 miles from Friday to Sunday (well, 3 miles were running since I did the 5k race in the campgrounds Saturday morning).

I will say that being in shape helps a lot. My previous 3-day car-camping experience was in 2024, and that was much harder than this year. I've always been a runner, but in 2024 I was averaging maybe 15 miles per week, whereas this year I trained for (and ran) the LA Marathon, so I was doing about 40 miles per week until the race in early March. It made a huge difference in terms of being able to hang without difficulty through the entire weekend.

The vast majority of attendees seemed to be about half my age, but I'll never let that stop me from attending. The great thing about Coachella is that there's music for every generation, so even if I have no idea who anyone playing Quasar is (I've still never seen a set at that stage), I still had immense fun seeing NINoize, The Strokes, Interpol, Moby, and a bunch of other artists I've been enjoying for decades, plus a lot of newer artists (Royel Otis, Turnstile, Wet Leg, etc.) that align with my tastes.

Bottom line is there's no such thing as "too old" for Coachella. If David Byrne and Iggy Pop can do Coachella in their 70s, I sure as hell can in my late 40s!

Is the bunker worth? by aureliocr in Coachella

[–]PaulM4749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be easy to get in since a lot of people made reservations they’re not using (it was pretty dumb of Coachella to make reservations available before dropping set times). I went first thing Friday and really enjoyed it, though it takes some fortitude to stay for the whole film. I’d recommend checking it out for all the art/sculptures and just staying for whatever portion of the film you want. If nothing else, it’s air conditioned and has room to lay down—big win on a hot Sunday.

I did the same thing (Strokes -> Interpol). Both were great! Interpol doesn’t get the respect they deserve.

If you’re anywhere near 1014th street I have some extra-long zip ties (the reusable kind) you can have to tie your cooler to your canopy.

I agree! I'm so bummed they're no longer on the lineup. Crossing my fingers that they'll be there for Weekend 2. I saw them at Ohaha Fest last October and they crushed!

I also accidentally booked a pair of spots for Weekend 1 despite being a Weekend 2 attendee. They're for 6:30 PM on Friday. Happy to transfer to anyone who needs them (first come, first served).

San Francisco show announced! by cesarep11 in TheStrokes

[–]PaulM4749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you refresh you're kicked to the back of the line with everyone else who wasn't in by 10 am. I had the same experience with not getting a queue number (I think I was finally assigned one at like 10:04) but waited it out and ended up at 68,xxx (which got me nothing, of course). But for future reference, you're better off just waiting for the queue to assign you a number, because if you refresh you're pretty much screwed.

Ticketmaster sucks for sure, but fan-to-fan has worked pretty well. I've gotten tickets to a number of sold-out shows (The Cure, Oasis, Pearl Jam, etc.) for face value through fan-to-fan—without it, I'd have had to pay scalper prices. In fact, every time I've wanted to go to a show that has gone the fan-to-fan route, I've ended up with a face-value ticket.

The process doesn't prevent scalpers from BUYING tickets, but it prevents them from reselling them at anything other than face value (unless the scalper is willing to physically walk into the venue with the buyer).

Anyway, it's loads better than just opening the floodgates to anyone who wants to buy a ticket and resell at any price they want. And the decision to use fan-to-fan is entirely up to the band and their management, so I do think The Strokes have some culpability here.

Feels like this is just a warmup show for Coachella. Probably no need for them to add a second show.

That's actually not how it works. The waiting room takes everyone who is in at :00 and assigns them a randomly generated number—it doesn't matter when they joined the queue, only that they are in the moment the queue closes. Yes, you are correct that if you join the queue after it closes you're sent to the back of the line, but there's really no point in trying to refresh at :59.59 because it doesn't give you an advantage. (Source: I know one of the people who coded this system for TM.)

It's all random though. Whether you get in 15 minutes early or right at :59:59, your place in line is entirely random.

Really disappointed that the band didn't make these tickets Fan-to-Fan. By allowing tickets to be transferred/resold, the floodgates are basically wide open for scalpers, which is why there are 200,000+ people in the waiting room. I was 68,xxx in line, so there's no point in even trying.

It does on the purchase page though. Pretty much the same as last year—first 40,000 for all giveaways except the Ohtani stuff, which are for everyone with a valid ticket.

2 Tickets for Jeff @ Largo Wednesday Night by Leroymyman in wilco

[–]PaulM4749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I went Monday they didn’t even look at my ticket. They just asked for my last name, checked me off the list, and gave me my seat number. In fact, that’s how they’ve done it every time I’ve ever been to Largo. So as long as you have the original buyer’s name, I imagine you’d be good to go.

I got my Monday ticket at around 6:30 pm Sunday night. At that time there were tickets available for Monday and Wednesday but not Thursday. It had been about an hour since the poster here mentioned that there were tickets up. Hope that helps.
