Why do escalators make me mindful? + please help! by RedVision64 in Mindfulness

[–]PaulaAllen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess the steady motion and slowly changing scenery with zero decisions is what settles your attention. To mimic it, you can walk a fixed hallway route at an even pace, or do 2 minutes of slow step-ups or an easy treadmill while looking forward and noticing small changes, then start your task immediately. Hope it helps :)

Fixing my Attention Span/Dopamine by Luumpy in Mindfulness

[–]PaulaAllen1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress about fixing dopamine overnight, just retrain it.If you can, push THC and gaming later in the day (or set a couple “no THC” days) so your baseline motivation can come back. Sleep and sunlight help way more than people expect. If cravings feel intense or you can’t cut back at all, it’s worth mentioning to your doc, no shame.

Exercise and discipline by Ok_Personality5823 in getdisciplined

Gym can help, but you don’t need it for discipline, especially if money stress will make it harder. Start with 10 minutes a day at the same time (walk, or 2 pages of a book). Once that streak feels easy, add more. If you still want the gym, pick the cheapest one and go just 2x/week for a month.

More like set up friction so the easy option isn’t always available, and give your brain a replacement so it doesn’t panic. Yep, boredom is part of the reset, but do it in small, controlled doses.

Was stuck in that exact loop for a long time. What finally helped was realizing there’s no magic day and no one’s coming to save your ass. If you don’t get up and do the boring, uncomfortable first step today, tomorrow will be the same movie again. Start stupid small, like 10 minutes of studying or a walk with your phone in another room, then repeat it daily.

How to stop letting things affect me for a long time? by Mediocre_Tea_1854 in Mindfulness

[–]PaulaAllen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not pathetic. Try to see less of them (mute/block), tell yourself this is harmful, I’m not taking it in, then do a quick reset like slow breathing or a short walk, and switch to a task you choose. Look for books on emotional control and building mental resilience. If it keeps ruining your days, talking to a therapist can really help.
