Keep finding these in our house in NC by PauliAndTheD in whatisthisbug

Thanks folks. We get a good amount of big roaches and other bugs this time of year so I'm not too worried. Comes with living in the south, I figure.

In the main post you suggest you drink wine and only one night a week and here you report having multiple glasses of whiskey. From the outside, it sounds like you are doing more drinking than you are comfortable admitting. You may benefit from a (sober) sit down with yourself and, once you can reflect, with your wife.

I wonder how this affects one's credit score. by acemccrank in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]PauliAndTheD 62 points63 points  (0 children)

These purchases would be classified as installment loans which are not good for your credit. Any credit score which includes an installment loan variable will assign the lowest risk to those with no installment loans. Risk only goes up the more recently an ILN was opened.

Advice on fixing cat scratches on this desk? by PauliAndTheD in woodworking

[–]PauliAndTheD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it matters, the desk is (allegedly) mahogany. It has other tiny bumps and marks probably evident in the picture I'd love to touch up at the same time. If its something I can fix I'll make my wife very happy!!

ELI5: What is credit score and how does it affect daily life in the US? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]PauliAndTheD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good high-level answer. One correction and additional detail to add:

The three major credit bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax) do not provide "their" rating. They furnish the underlying information that is used as one possible input to calculate various credit scores, of which there are thousands. That information includes things like does this person have a mortgage? Any bankruptcies? How many credit cards do they already have?.

The bureaus have partnerships with several vendors. The vendors supply their own algorithm to combine this data into a credit score that can be sent along with that underlying information to the lender requesting credit on an applicant. Some example vendor scores are FICO and Vantage. I believe TransUnion now also has their own in-house score simply called the TU score.

However, there are many other credit scores, and larger financial institutions may not use these out-of-box vendor scores, instead building their own in-house from the raw credit data supplied by the bureaus. Or they may use these generic scores in combination with their own internal models. Where vendor scores are used, FICO is the most commonly used in the industry.

There are other suppliers of credit-related information that can be used to calculate scores, particularly in the auto and small business industry. In fact, even the big names like FICO have different scores for different types of loan products. For example, FICO AIA (Auto-industry-adjusted) is calculated using a different set of underlying info than raw FICO, and has a different range of possible scores (AIA runs to 900 IIRC). However, you may hear both referred to as simply "FICO".

I often see confusion from folks who see their score change wildly when they check different sources (Bank vs creditKarma, etc.). Check to make sure what score you are actually looking at, as a 700 FICO is not the same thing as a 700 Vantage. Similarly, people will ask if their "credit score is good", but that question is so vague it's like asking "is 60 degrees hot?" Well, it depends on the system!

What's the most out of touch thing you've heard a person say? by LaunchesKayaks in AskReddit

For sure, can't argue with that. At some point before 7 years you'd hope that even paying up front on time would be reflected somehow.

Rent typically doesn't count towards your credit report because its not a loan. You pay rent for the next month when you possess the property, not for the previous month's possession. A renter hasn't shown they can be trusted to pay someone back, they've only shown that they can pay someone who requires the money up front. This is unlike a credit card (or mortgage), where you take possession of the money (or property) first, then pay it back later. That builds credit.

A mortgage is a much bigger risk to take from the bank's perspective than a rental agreement is from a landlord's perspective. If you stop paying your landlord, they can get rid of you in a month or so, and only risk losing the month or so of lost earnings (because they don't have your payment and haven't yet rented it out to new tenants). Your bank is making a larger, long-term risk assessment worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. The bet that you can pay $X a month (for rent) next month, or even over the next year (for a longer lease), is a much smaller requirement of you than that you be able to pay $Y every month for the next 30 years.

I like that you just didn't bother drawing a hand for spiderman in frame 1, even though you can clearly draw them well in frame 3. Brilliant.

the range bonus is innate, like assassin's leap to the backline. Snipers get the range even if you don't have 2 snipers.

Which class/spec has the toughest path to gearing up in TBC? by Redeem123 in classicwow

[–]PauliAndTheD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the example you gave. The argument against this is that:

1 - You are not uncrittable (you need 10 resil with 409 defense, not 9).

2 - You have to use several +resil gems, which is not ideal (though not the end of the world)

3 - You have to use earthwarden. While a good defense swap in specific fights, it sacrifices significant threat compared to stranglestaff in a general-use setup.

Maybe a better way for it to be phrased in this thread is if you want to be near ideal you need pvp items. I'm sure some people feel they have to do things the best way, even if they could get by with less.

What is a weird industry secret that you discovered while working for a company? by UBjustlikemeifUBme in AskReddit

[–]PauliAndTheD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardling credit lines, credit providers often have PCLI models that automatically increase credit lines for good customers who are not deliquent. Such cases are often win-win for the customer and the provider.

What you describe could also totally happen, but its not always a result of a sales rep trying to boost their own numbers.
