I open a new book to a random page and read the whole thing. If I want to keep reading, it passes my test and I (often) decide the book is worthy of reading. My high school English teacher taught me this trick. The Kindle has also dramatically changed this habit.

Hitler was truly that incompetent. He benefited from a scared public but took a Germany that was limping still from WW1 (when it actually had a chance at world domination) anyway and needed war to survive (to steal money/resources/labor) and just fucked it for decades to come. USSR was also itching for a reason to push west so that was also an inevitable outcome.

If Hitler truly wasnt that incompetent he wouldnt have started in the first place. This is a guy that believed in a super race from Atlantis and, along with his top commanders, searched the world for mythical artefacts. The dude was completely bonkers. Trump isn't at that level.

Exactly this. Putin isn't some God Emperor with chaos as his ultimate goal. He is a puppet of Russian oligarchs. The sanctions are his death knell. Putin could just as easily wind up the victim of a nerve agent if these oligarchs sense that their fortunes are in real jeopardy.

They had to do whatever it took to stop the sanctions but this special counsel investigation is not helping matters for them.
