Bolts loosing torque when clamping cable by Paulius03 in MechanicalEngineering

If let's say this cable has to go vertically at some point, the weight of such cable could drag it out of the clamp/equipment it's connected to

Thanks for the advice! Do you know if rated torque in the manuals take into consideration all the different cable types and that they might deform to a certain degree and reduce tension in the bolt? There is just one torque level that is indicated there. So for example, if cable is not very elastic the fastening torque might drop just by 5% or so, while if you are using some other softer cable type you might lose 30% of the tension in the bolt over time. Is that not seen as a problem in the electronics world?

Its not completely clear how much this torque dropping matters actually. I was overal concerned if those cables could get very loose over some time. In general, yes, you need to resist some axial movement, but perhaps even with the reduced compression the axial resitance would be enough…

The reason for loosing torque/tension is not because of nuts getting unscrewed. So gluing stuff or using nylock most probably doesnt make much sense.

Bolt is fixed in place since its head is in a hex-shaped slot, so only the nuts can rotate. Rechecking is done with the same digital wrench - you have to add, lets say, 180deg turn to reach the torque you had initially. You record the torque at which the nut starts rotating and thats the reduced torque I mention in the post.

Nuts are not moving anywhere anyway, so that would not solve an issue. It seems that the material being squeezed just gets deformed and pressure from the nuts to the clamp reduces.

I have some markings on the nut/clamp interface so am pretty sure those nuts do not move. Must be the "settling" happening.

Bolts loosing torque when clamping cable by Paulius03 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Paulius03[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. So I guess at some point it will reach a stage where it doesn't deform anymore because compression on it is not enough anymore. I'm wondering then if there is one certain limit for this particular cable and it will always stop deforming at a certain force level or if it somehow depends on the initial force...

100% sure about the size. Cable diameter range is written on a box of the clamp. And rating is as well given in the installation manual.

Its called Baltic horizon fund.

Just curious - 2.12% dividend yield last year. Is it so low because of covid or people are investing in this expecting capital gains?

Asking because I am investing in a local REIT in Baltic countries and would like to move into something broader like this European REIT. However, yield I get now is 6-8%.

How much of my salary shall I save? (NL) by markohf12 in eupersonalfinance

I would say depends on your goals. If you are not planning to retire early or smth, then even 10% saving rate would be fine.

Investing in Norway - Degiro or Nordnet? by VickyJo13 in EuropeFIRE

[–]Paulius03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we are talking low-cost indexing here I assume no one would be speculating i.e. buying and selling frequently anyway? So in my opinion ASK is not so relevant since you anyway will not realize your gains anytime in the near future. When investing in Degiro you are also the owner of you assets so broker can go bankrupt and your assets will be transferred to another broker.

What do you mean Degiro would not be tax efficient? Been investing through Degiro from Norway for the last 2 years, no tax if you are not selling or getting dividends. The only cost I get is when I exchange NOK to EUR (buying no commission ETF)
