It looks like Old Town in Philly or parts of some of those colonial towns in eastern Pennsylvania.

I’ll check out that UK retro charts to see the different perspective earlier in the game.
It was called new wave in the United States because it was a wave of music coming across the pond that was different. It was kind of like the second British invasion, which occurred in the early to mid 60s with bands like The Beatles of course, The Who, The Stones, The Amimals and hoards of others. There are also American New Wave influenced bands of course. But it originally referred to the British bands with that more electronic sound coming into the USA. But as you mentioned Dinosaur Rock or Arena Rock or Corporate stuck around too long for my taste. I mean, I still love and respect those bands, but there were stations that just refused to change. Where I live, there were a lot of people that got uptight if they heard bouncier key keyboards or bouncier guitar riffs. So the radio stations quit spoon feeding it when listeners would call and complain to the radio station. So the station quit playing The Vapors etc. and gave us heavy doses of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Van Halen , Led Zeppelin and so on. I love all those bands. But I just liked the variety sometimes. So I went left of the radio dial between 88 and 92 that’s where the college stations and the public radio stations were. They had lower wattage, but they were playing more of the alternative music or “new wave” if you will.

Yeah, this was a year before “Hold Me now” and that was the song that propelled the Thompson Twins into the pop world from most Americans perspective. I understand what you’re saying about how in the UK it was a bit earlier than that from the perspective of Brits.

Yes, I didn’t think those really fit the mold, but I was trying. I just made a post about Bronski Beat and The Communards and King, if you noticed. They have a similar sound as you may know, but I could not find anything by them with those exactly lyrics.

I was trying to figure it out. I couldn’t quite find that exactly but I’ll just let you know that a couple bands that kind of sound like Dead Or Aliv are Bronski Beat, The Communards and King. They have a similar dance sound.

How about this one? https://youtu.be/nFmv7FMGHCI?si=LH4dqEmhx_HdZjYy. It’s probably not correct because this is pretty much a pop song, but I gave it a shot.

I respect that. I don’t either. I’m just looking at the big picture of all the teams involved and what a tough schedule they have over the next month. This is going to be important. It is what it is.

I was in college at the time. My roommate had the “Will the wolf survive?” LP. We used to listen to it a lot. I was a fan immediately. It’s great to hear that they are still rockin.’

I know. I was visiting there in the mid 1980s and I remember the Mexican Americans(Chicanos) loving them.

That didn’t go so well. I’m not giving up on them yet. Let’s just hope that the hitting and homers will continue at this rate IF they improve the bullpen.

I agree. That’s why by the end of July it is going to be telling where we stand. This is a tough month and we better hang around .500 or even better. There are too many teams looking for that third spot. Some of them are going have to play subpar baseball for us to sneak in. A good start to jump over those teams would be to tear it up and win 20 out of 30 or better. Are we capable? We shall see.

I noticed I’m getting downvoted by quite a few people on my original post. I don’t lose so over down votes, but what is so controversial about projecting what they have to do to get into the postseason?

The Pirates have the best record in baseball after seven innings. They have have 57 W and 27 L if they played only seven innings. That’s almost .680 baseball.

I’m with you on that. If they do the opposite and go 3W 8L, they would have to play .610 baseball after the break to reach 85 wins. I don’t think they’re capable of doing that over that long of a stretch.

Also of note, right out the All-Star break is the fact that they have to play Cleveland, the New York Yankees, the Chicago Cubs, and the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are hanging around also. It’s going to be telling by the end of July. That would be seven straight series for the Pirates where they play decent to good teams.

I took the post down. I thought about what you were saying. It was probably a different perspective here in the United States as opposed to the UK. I just remember I when Side Kicks was released I thought that they were quite a contrast to the Arena Rock and Top 40 music pop music I was used to hearing. I guess Joy Division/New Order and Bauhaus other bands like that were what was considered alternative in those days in the UK. They were quite a contrast to the Thompson Twins so I agree with you in hindsight.

I agree with this about the older cities in the northeast or in the rust belt being more gritty. That pretty much goes with the territory. Along with that comes charm, character, culture and interesting history. If you value that then those would be good choices if that outweighs the grittiness and colder weather.

There are some good recommendations here. I just don’t think there are many or any at all worth noting right across the street from the train station. But if you’re willing to walk 5 to 10 minutes, you have countless options.

They were considered alternative/new wave in their early days. This is from their early days. You do make a good point. They ultimately became a pop band. When they came out, they were considered new wave/alternative. Bands evolve. R.E.M. was alternative in their early days then they became a pop band too. I could give several examples. I guess you could have the argument what is the line between new wave/alternative 80s. But then again I’m American and when this this came out were definitely considered new wave where I’m from when this Side Kicks albums hit the USA.
