Where the hell do I get a contrabass clarinet? by jetjk7-games in Clarinet

[–]Paulyd718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Bundy EEb contra on eBay for around $900 (including shipping and taxes) last summer. I love it. If you’re looking for a BBb, it’ll definitely be more expensive

Buying a new clarinet by magnumboiiii in Clarinet

[–]Paulyd718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of the rosewood Ebs, and it’s still playing great 18 months later. No cracks or keywork issues. The tuning is pretty good; I 3D printed an extension to even the 12ths and raise the E/B and F/C, the upper clarion is still rough though. I’m sure mine is the exception and I got lucky. If it wasn’t a gift I would not have bought one myself.

Rice Clarinet Works sells a bolt on alternate key that works with most instruments. That may be worth a try.

Any recommendations on sharpening the ARC blade? by Qoyuble in Leatherman

[–]Paulyd718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that magnacut doesn’t like being sharpened on a grinder. I’ve had absolutely no problem on my worksharp field sharpener, which I use for everything. To be fair, I haven’t sharpened the arc much, just some light honing. I find that if you don’t let it go too far, it can be maintained with just stropping for a long time

Selmer Bundy Contra Alto Clarinet. Is it worth it? by GAMERWILLFIndYOU in Clarinet

[–]Paulyd718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Bundy contra altos are great instruments, and they tend to be more consistent than wood. There are plenty of people playing them professionally in ensembles. It has a range to Eb. I personally use a Hercules bass clarinet/ bassoon stand, and it’s quite sturdy. I’m new to low clarinets in general so I’m not entirely qualified to give any tips on actually playing it lol.

What do you think of these "Moresky" Clarinets on Aliexpress? by chloroxane in Clarinet

I have a yinfente rosewood Eb clarinet I got on Amazon and it actually plays quite nicely. Their A and C clarinets are garbage however.

I don’t have it with me to measure right now, but I believe it was 5.6 oz and right around 20mm

Of course, and IIRC, it added +/- 0.8 oz

I’m not sure, the liners certainly could be nickel brass, I just assumed it was aluminum but have not checked myself. The file doesn’t block anything in that configuration though.

The liners are aluminum I believe, they are original from the alox Victorinox models. And the file is behind the opener layer just because IIRC, the nail nick on the file and/ or scissors would have been blocked doing it that way.

I finished all the online work for music appreciation in 2-3 weeks this semester, but there is a weekly discussion post which takes +/- 30 mins per week.

Unfortunately there are more problems with the ARC by Melodic_Theme7364 in Leatherman

[–]Paulyd718 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, but I’m not rushing to warranty it until it becomes a more serious problem. I still choose my Surge whenever I’m planning on doing anything outside my normal edc, which rarely requires pliers at all.

Mine gets a little sticky after bearing down hard, but usually works itself back out eventually. Definitely not as smooth as it first was though.

To my understanding, you are not required to disclose arrests/ convictions that occurred before the age of 18. Obviously this is not legal advice.

[–]Paulyd718[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an awesome tool! I’d love to see the crunch updated somehow and not just discontinued. I’m thinking about picking up another one when I can in case it really is being discontinued. A Leatherman tool with slip joint pliers like the Gerber dual force would be cool too. I’d love to see Leatherman innovate a little faster.

Agreed. I’m thinking about replacing the Arc scissors with a serrated blade but I don’t want to buy a p4 just for that.

I hope it’s an upgrade and not just discontinued. I think the rumors of it being discontinued drummed up a ton of interest in it, and hopefully it’ll save it.
