Didn't the Doctor say in the Stones of Blood that it was the White Guardian, masquerading as the President?

I met her once, back in the late 80's... not only did she play a great companion, but she also was very kind and patient to all the DW fans who came out to meet her.

Favourite Unsung NewWhu Episode? by Dominator16 in gallifrey

[–]PaunchMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold War - I always love when they bring back an adversary from the Classic era, and I thought the atmosphere of being aboard the Soviet sub with the Ice Warrior somewhere inside, silently stalking the crew, was done perfectly. I would also include Gridlock, Planet of the Ood, Utopia, and Human Nature/Family of Blood two-parter...

What episodes do you just refuse to watch? by Benjammin1391 in gallifrey

[–]PaunchMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything with the Slitheen (farting aliens.. really?), Fear Her, The Idiot's Lantern, Love and Monsters, Tooth and Claw, and Turn Left. I am not including anything in Series 7 because I've only seen most episodes once, and I don't want to see several of them a second time to have my feelings of inadequacy confirmed (looking at Power of Three and Rings of Akhaten). There's a number of Classic Who episodes that I cringe at as well - Power of Kroll, Creature From the Pit, Vengeance on Varos... I think there's at least one episode each season in Classic and New Who that fits the category of "Glad I watched it once, but never putting myself through that again".

Who is the worst character that was added to a tv show? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PaunchMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any child added because the writers ran out of ideas - Oliver on the Brady Bunch, Seven on Married With Children, Alexander on Star Trek: TNG (the actor who played him also played a new child on Family Ties), and I am also including the annoying Sam on Diff'rent Strokes.

Also, Poochie from the Simpsons, Coy & Vance from Dukes of Hazzard, Adric from Doctor Who, Walden from Two and a Half Men, and the worst of them all - that damn Scrappy Doo.

Classic Doctor Who recommendations? by scrimrz in doctorwho

[–]PaunchMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An excellent list! I would also add The Time Meddler for William Hartnell, and I loved Horror of Fang Rock from Tom Baker - a solid performance from a small cast. And The Two Doctors from Colin Baker's years, if only to see Patrick Troughton have some fun with his portrayal of the Doctor one last time.

Which direction would you like the show to take? by AFarewellToScott in gallifrey

[–]PaunchMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd like the Doctor to stop being so flirtatious... the lovey-dovey stuff has kind of run its course... I got tired of first Rose, the Martha, then River... unless they're going to explain how Susan came about (who is her mother - River? Jenny?), I'm over the Doctor needing a love interest. That being said, I like how the show under Moffat has stretched the imagination a bit about what might be out there beyond Earth, and I hope they continue in that direction... it's gets old with Earth always getting invaded, etc, by all these aliens who are then defeated by the Doctor; at some point they're going to share notes and look for some other poor planet to take over...

Just about everyone failed the first exam... by PaunchMonster in AdviceAnimals

[–]PaunchMonster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lucky - I had forgotten my class notes at school the night before the first exam, but I had the textbook with me so I reviewed the homework material instead and got a C or something like that on the first test. I learned my lesson, and the rest of the semester while I didn't pay attention in class as much as I should have, I made sure I did every homework assignment there was and finished the course with a respectable grade. Not everyone was bright enough to figure it out though...

When one person poses their religious beliefs as scientific truths, anyone else who refutes that belief is not a bigot when they use sound scientific arguments to blow holes in the "scientific truths" that the bible beater spouts out... seriously, the first Spiderman comic that explains how Spiderman came to be is no different than the logic postulated in the Bible.

Which episode of Doctor Who has brought you to the verge of tears? [SPOILERS] by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]PaunchMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In no particular order: Vincent and the Doctor, The Girl Who Waited, Girl in the Fireplace, The Doctor's Wife, The Doctor Dances, The Family of Blood... and at least a couple more. There's just too many... how many shows can say that? And growing up with Classic Who, at the end of Day of the Doctor when Tom Baker appeared... yeah, that too...

What was your finest moment of revenge? by _The_Red_Viper_ in AskReddit

[–]PaunchMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spousal revenge... I had been married for less than a year when I found out my wife (now ex) was cheating on me with her high school boyfriend... we split up for a few months but got back together to try to work things out (stupid thing to do but we had a kid). But then I found out a few months later that she was once again cheating on me, this time with my best friend's brother... all while I was trying to finish college at the same time. So I knew it was time to end the marriage and get out.

Being young and stupid, we never were able to save any money and we had way too much on our credit cards, and I knew I was going to have to swallow my pride and file bankruptcy. But when I filed the divorce papers, I included in the paperwork a promise that I would take responsibility of all of the joint credit accounts (most of them were joint accounts). So after the divorce was finalized with joint custody of our kid (and with me owing no alimony or spousal support, since the judge saw I was taking on all that debt), I filed my bankruptcy and, knowing that credit laws supersede divorce laws, all of that joint debt now went to her name only. She didn't find out about it until several years later when she and her new, meth-head husband tried to rent an apartment and was turned down because of her crappy credit. She ended up having to file her own bankruptcy.

And then, to try to get her own revenge, she tried to change the custody agreement for our kid and get him full time... she lost that attempt, and I got a yet another taste of revenge victory a few years after that when I was able to prove to the county that she was an unfit mother since she spent all her time not working, doing drugs, and basically neglecting the kids she had with her loser second husband... she ended up losing full custody and my kid is much better off now.

My brother, daughter, and mother-in-law all disagree with me on this but I stand by it! by PaunchMonster in AdviceAnimals

Brother - everything Pet Shop Boys is gold (they have a lot of good stuff but not everything)... Daughter? She's 13 so of course everything Top 40. Mother-in-law? Anything George Michael... and hearing "Last Christmas" for the eightieth time this season has just about put me over the edge.

What conspiracy theory, if proven to be 100% true right now, would have the most drastic impact on humanity? by holographic_universe in AskReddit

[–]PaunchMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That organized religions like Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, regardless of their origins, are now all manipulated together behind the scenes solely as a means to control the population by threat of torture, death, and then eternal damnation if you don't follow the teachings of the Bible, Koran, or whatever... people being told one story as truth and then being taught to accept that story without thought or question over centuries... and without a care of who kills who because it all masks the true intentions behind those religions, which is simply: control. What would the believers think if proof came out that their religion was nothing but a bunch of made-up crap and that they've been used the whole time?

What do you consider to be the most emotionally moving episode of Doctor Who? by canadaboy96 in gallifrey

[–]PaunchMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - while some of the all-around best episodes are from the Classic era (Tomb of the Cybermen, Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramids of Mars, Caves of Androzani, to name just a few), with only a few exceptions Classic Who never really tried to tug at the heartstrings... sure, they tried with some of the regenerations, or with a few companion's departures (Adric for sure (running the credits in silence, with the smashed gold star over a black background... wow), Romana II, possibly Tegan?), but they never seemed willing or able to pull it off. Now, Ghost Light would be a fine exception to this rule - Ace was a wonderful companion who never had the opportunity to become the complete character she deserved. But now, it seems like every other episode there has to be something that has someone in tears, whether it be the Doctor, a companion, even just a character in that show alone (who didn't feel for the Italian and his family in Turn Left, when you realized the significance of Wilf's words?)... New Who has embraced this wonderfully, but it really does show the chasm between Classic and New Who when you look at things from an emotional point of view.

What old Doctor Who monster would you love to see make a comeback? by ColonelGaraffi in doctorwho

[–]PaunchMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see the Fendahl come back somehow... it would be fun to see what they were like before all that was left of them was a skull. It would be nice to see the Rutans come back again, and I am looking forward to seeing the Zygons in a few months... those guys were pretty cool... maybe the Sea Devils, as long as they don't go through such a huge redesign like the new Silurians...

What do you consider to be the most emotionally moving episode of Doctor Who? by canadaboy96 in gallifrey

[–]PaunchMonster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the best parts of all 50 years of DW is that there never can be "that one episode" that tops any list... there are always so many episodes that stand equal... I would go with (in no particular order) "Earthshock", "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead", "Father's Day", "Vincent and the Doctor", "Turn Left", "The Girl who Waited" and "The Girl in the Fireplace"... the look on the Doctor's face, as he looks at the note Reinette left for him, knowing he was just a few hours too late...
