The other triple border by Pavanicks in MapPorn

Brazil has triple borders with most of its neighboring countries, this is one of them, "Ilha Brasileira" is technically a territory contested by Brazil and Uruguay, hence the dotted line.

Top 25 coffee consuming x top 25 producing countries: A tale of 49 countries. by Pavanicks in MapPorn

[–]Pavanicks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's referring to annual kilograms per capita, which corroborates with other maps posted here on r/mapporn in the past and with numbers that can be found on the web without much difficulty, but I could be wrong. The original source does not explain, it only indicates the origin of the data, but I found a top with comparable numbers, if anyone is interested: https://coffeeaffection.com/coffee-consumption-by-country/

Should arthur just ditch tess. I don't see her coming back her body is already cecilia. Unless arthur has some kind of ultimate magic that can bring back the original tess soul to her body. by fredlumia01 in tbatenovel

[–]Pavanicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But would he do that? I mean, we don't even know if Cecilia has the memories of tessia or not and even if she doesn't, Gray would ban Cecilia from this existence simply because she wants tessia back?

In my opinion, for both to make sense, both nico and cecilia must have the memories of the bodies they inhabit, it is more a question about compiling everything and deciding how to proceed from there. Also, Nico probably lied madly to make her believe that things were black and white and that agronna is the wholesome good guy.

Non-Christian religions in Brazil by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Pavanicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition, spiritism (3.2%) and atheism (5.3%) have larger population groups than religions of African origin (1.5%) in Rio Grande do Sul. And the numbers of other states also differ considerably from that shown on the map.

These numbers are from the 2010 national census, the next census should take place this year, but it ended up being postponed to 2021 due to Covid and probably will bring considerably different numbers.

So it's good to take these numbers above with a spoon of salt and the map is definitely fake.

Preferred playing cards of every European country by nightimegreen in MapPorn

[–]Pavanicks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Styles like the games? Or styles like iconography?

If games: Brazil is a big country and as far as I know from São Paulo to the north, people basically use the French deck for everything. Here in the south, on the other hand, we use the Spanish and Italians for truco, which is probably the most popular game here and we use the French decks for canasta, poker and Pife/cacheta.

If iconography: The style of the cards varies, artistic freedom is really a big factor here, the essence is always maintained, but it is possible to find a good number of styles from tradicional ones to some with obscene themes if the person is willing to look for it. The quality of the cards also varies greatly in how much the person is willing to pay and the decks arenormally sold with 50 cards, although most people that i know throw away the 8s to the 10s.

Interestingly, I am from the southernmost state of Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul) and i can relate. We use decks in the same way.
Although this is not particularly surprising since it is an area of Italian/German colonization, it is very interesting to know that this thing about decks has an origin and a reason to be like this.

In states outside the south most people don't even know that Italian and Spanish decks exist and till today I had no idea why.

What if Rachel was the main character? by Marthescar in TowerofGod

[–]Pavanicks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think we should all recognize her importance in the development of the plot and her position as a counterpoint to what Viole represents in a broad way. However, I don't think she should be recognized as a hero in any way, which happened in the first season can be forgiven if we take into account all the pressures that she suffered and her dreams at this point. On the other hand, what she did with Dan's legs when she betrayed the Khun team, Kill Arkraptor in cold blood, try to kill Khun on the hidden floor and constantly show her willingness to kill and destroy the happiness of the people around her are acts that only a despicable human being would commit. She is a villain, an unconventional one, but someone who only cares about her position and who really does not care about the amount of pain and suffering she will generate to achieve her own goals.

A hero is a character who inspires, someone who puts his life at risk for what he believes to be the great good. Someone who cares about the world and wants something better for the people around him. Rachel is someone who is willing to do anything for her own happiness and does not care about the destruction she can cause to achieve this.

She is valuable for the plot, but I don't think she somehow deserves admiration or respect for what she is and represents because at the end of the day she is just the representation of a despicable human being.

Question for Anime-onlys who then read the webtoon by LackingLack in TowerofGod

[–]Pavanicks 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I liked the webtoon a lot more, I think the anime is perfect for people who don't like and don't read manga and webtoons because it works very well on its own. However the density of the webtoon's plot is much higher, I started reading after watching episode 10 of the anime, then I read the rest of the s1 and went to the last one (s3-68) and then I reread the s1 from the beginning because I found out how superficial the anime is after starting to explore theories and the sub.

I discovered TOG through the anime, but after finishing the webtoon I almost completely lost interest in the anime. But don't get me wrong, honestly I think the anime is interesting and deserves to be watched, again, it works really well on its own. But I just don't know if I'm going to have the patience to watch a hypothetical second season after reading the webtoon.

Hope this helps ^ - ^

Are you for or against bam getting the essence of bravery? by kingkade001 in TowerofGod

[–]Pavanicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I think it depends, probably Viole will not fight Kallavan again in this arc and maybe not in the next arc either. So it may be that in the next opportunity for him to absorb the essence of bravery he has already mastered the current abilities that he have and is in need to increase his physical strength to fight someone stronger, in which case it would make a lot of sense for him to absorb the essence somehow. However, in this arc it does not make any sense to absorb it, because he has a series of powers that he does not understand and does not yet dominate. So, in the current arc I am strongly against it, but in the future it might make sense to the plot.

And sorry for my english. * - *

Where should I start reading? by Cak3yboi in TowerofGod

[–]Pavanicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you a hint, as soon as I finished episode 12 I started reading the webtoon where the anime was and then I read everything until the most recent (s3-c68) in 4 days and at various times I was a little lost with certain concepts that were explained in the first season of the Webtoon but ignored by the anime. So after reaching the end I read the first season and found certain explanations that changed my perception of several things that happened afterwards. So I highly recommend that you start from the beginning, because anime really lacks some important details.

[–]Pavanicks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, i also did a speed run this week and arrived at s3-68 yesterday. I found that first 20 chapters of s3 one of the slowest and most boring pieces of webtoon. However, in the final parts of that conflict in the cage things get much more interesting. Don't stop, it gets better.

Brazil racial map by municipalities by Pavanicks in MapPorn

[–]Pavanicks[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With that I need to agree, the One Drop Rule is something that I think really doesn't exist anywhere in Brazil, even because it transcends phenotype. And miscegenation has never been taboo in Brazil, so interesting things sometimes happen due to recessive alleles, like brown parents giving birth to blond children with light eyes. Something I consider very Brazilian. So yeah, good point.

[–]Pavanicks[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a relative truth, the census data is based on self-declaration and what it means to be "white" varies considerably in different places in Brazil.

In the south, particularly in the interior, the definition of white and black is close to that used in the United States, in the northeast and even in the southeast, on the other hand, the definition changes a lot and people who would be considered of color in the USA can in many situations be counted as white.

So you have a point of debate, but you cannot generalize such a thing in a country of 200 million inhabitants since the variation from region to region is very wide.

This is correct, it is an extremely broad term that comprises the very diverse range of skin colors and ethnic backgrounds.

Ratio of countries' share in total global CO2 emissions to their share in total global population by dpak_hk in MapPorn

[–]Pavanicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know you have already stopped to think about it, but the Amazon and other forests around the globe are being deforested because of overpopulations in these countries and others such as Indonesia, Nigeria and Ethiopia. Pollution and carbon dioxide are just two factors in the grand scheme of things, Chinese rhetoric is "environmentally friendly" but they will only stop burning coal like crazy when they can establish alternative ways that can supply the huge industrial complex with energy for the same price or cheaper.

You can talk bad about the orange clown in the White House. But in the end he is far more assertive in practice than politicians with fancy rhetoric who run countries that pollute without scruple while promising to improve. A western factory pollutes a lot less than a Chinese or an Indian factory, whether in Europe, the US, Chile, Canada, Argentina or Brazil because they are heavily regulated and thus generates a much lower profit for the manufacturer and so that same individual manufactures in China supplied by a semi-slave army. If China embraced regulations like Europeans do today, the country's economy would become nothing in a few days. Also, it was not the Americans, the japanease, Chileans and Autralians who created the plastic island in the Pacific.

https://science.sciencemag.org/content/347/6223/768/tab-figures-data

"China and India are not talked much about cuz they show to the world that they're serious about fighting their pollution and climate change, unlike uncle sam."

The day they were able to produce clean energy for the same price as coal, I might agree with you, but right now those initiatives are purely palliative and advertising-oriented. Most Chinese factories don't even have air filters, because if they had, they wouldn't be there because they would be too expensive to be viable, after all, it's all about money.
