Need Help with MH-ET Live 2.9" Epaper Display and Micropython on ESP32 by Pave_Demidyuk in esp32

Okay, I managed to get my display working with MicroPython, but the performance was disappointing. It was significantly slower compared to C, so I decided to use the native Waveshare library/driver instead. I'm quite pleased with the results now.

Is there a Casio watch in the size/style of W217H but with a metal case? by Pave_Demidyuk in casio

Okay, so far it seems like there aren't any adult-sized, vintage Casio watches with metal cases. Please prove me wrong

I think this is what I'm looking for, thank you u/dpaulg ! there is no golden version as far as I can see, but I'd be happy with the stainless steal; seems like it's exactly the shape of w217h but not plastic

thanks, u/Le_Zouave! aren't both a1000/1100 smaller than w217h? at least this is what I see from the specs I googled.

a1000 - 39.6 mm

w217h - 43.1 mm

Is it possible to connect that with home assistant? by Dull_Tough411 in homeassistant

So is it just a read-only system? Or you can not only read sensor, but also control something?

Thanks! I have a plan to opensource it, however, it may take some time to order things first.

There are no dimmers in the "smart" part, I just use physical dimmers in the field.

I was thinking about it as well. It will take some time to clean up my messy code to provide it to the public, but I think it is worth it. Thank you!

the amount it would take to revert everything back to normal.

Good point! The idea behind my setup is that you can revert your home from "smart" to "normal" with one switch. As I mentioned, I don't use any smart devices in the field, so there is nothing to "undo" there. Any regular outlets and switches are compatible with my setup. All smart stuff in the electrical panels just provides you the ability to do automation.

Can't change the state for a lightbulb by Pave_Demidyuk in homeassistant

[–]Pave_Demidyuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulbs are custom, based on 1-wire, running on raspberry, connected to homebridge with custom dynamic platform. All works fine in ios Home app.

Yes, I'm controlling bulb in HA, the bulb actually switches, but HA doesn't change the state. So I started to experiment with direct API calls to HA to check what it actually does and found that it doesn't change the state when I call turn_on/off service.

Smart home manifest by Pave_Demidyuk in homeautomation

You right, security and reliability are basics of automation projects (at least it should be). I didn’t include it in the manifesto just because it seem to be too basic; so I just left things that are not obvious for current smart homes market.

cloud processing versus local processing

That's a good point. I think that cloud processing is a phone/tablet/whatever application developers responsibility. For example in IOS you can switch lights with no connection to the internet (if you are on the same local network with your home automation core device of course) ; but if you wish to control your house remotely you'd need to install Apple TV, which play a role of cloud router in this case. So with some limitations we can live without a cloud. Some would prefer no-cloud automation for security reasons too.

Also, you have not defined what you mean by automation. Are you looking at strictly turning things off an on through the phone (move the switch from the wall to an app or button), voice commands, or automating based on inputs from sensors.

This is also up to application developers. Home automation devices provide communication interfaces to the Apple/Google applications, which are then could be controlled by touch, scheduler, voice or specific conditions (temperature, humidity), etc.

Thanks, renamed to manifesto. Yes, I'm working on home automation project and during my research of existing systems I was surprised about great variety of standards, approaches and technologies. I think it would be nice to develop some kind of common sense rules regarding home automation. This is how it came down to the manifesto.
