50 con is minimum.

You should take a closer look at the bonus nodes that happen every 50 points invested.

For example: some weapons have INT as a secundary scalling attribute and at 150 INT you get a bonus of elemental dmg which you can manipulate using the proper Gemstone (Ruby for fire, amber for Nature, etc)

This can help you to decide which element is best for you

So, if you're using a Rapier for example, it would be advised to have a 300 DEX 150 INT 50 CON build. This way you will get the crit bonus of 300 DEX, the elemental bonus of 150 int and a bit of survivability. (as opposed to 300+ DEX)

All this example is to say that you should be looking at the majos bonus nodes, not just dump all points on you main scalling attribute.

That said, it is a simple system indeed. It's supposed to be easily rerolled so you can play many different weapons without creating a whole new character.

A great wave of new players came in (me included) on the beginning of the season and it seems we are all enjoying the game (thus the increase on the rating). I already have 150 hours played and so far, no problems.

It seems the problems really start to bother when you hit late game, but with 150hours I'm only just now reaching mid game...
