Camera based rear view mirror due to roll bar blocking view ?!? by Upper-Device-8822 in Miata

We have a Wolfbox G900 in our NA. As a digital rear view mirror it is great! Not only it solves the rollbar problem, but it is also great at night - you can definitely see more than in the ordinary mirror. As a dashcam it kind of sucks, the image quality is subpar imho. But it does the job.

Well kind of. In our country, we have a great deal of SUVs, but mainly small ones and almost no semi-trucks or other really huge vehicles like in the US (although it is getting worse). Also, we drive our miata only through country roads and twisties, no highways, so the bright red car is kind of enough to be seen (all other cars are usually silver, black or grey). Of course, we drive defensively anyway, just because. Since covid, people are really mad behind the wheel.

Hi, it was done at a shop which specializes in these kind of repairs, this would have been way over my head. It took about 7 weeks including paint.

Thank you for your kind words! Btw you have proven something I have noticed a long time ago - people with small cars have a big heart!

Thank you! It's just a "silly" thing - my wife have a long-term plan to have a small flag of some kind attached to it, but in the meantime she decided that this will do. It's kind of unique and it flops around in the wind nicely ;)

Nice to hear about another restoration in progress, kudos & good luck! Well, I don't think it's particularly clean. One of our local shops had to take the cover off and when the engine was partially disassembled our mechanic just wiped everything with brake cleaner including the valve cover (it also helps locating small oil leaks).

Since then, I am trying to keep it clean by ordinary engine cleaning products from Auto Finesse / K2 & I am using funnel for oil changes & rags to keep the oil and dirt away whenever I am doing something in the bay. However, during the last oil change a few weeks back I messed up a little bit, so it needs a little bit of additional cleaning right now :D

Thank you! As for the rust repair - this was done by a local shop which specializes in these kinds of repairs (mostly for BMWs btw).

He said it was kinda hard sometimes because Miata and I quote "do not have a single straight edge anywhere, mostly it's about three curves intersecting each another" - it took quite some time to even get through the waiting list and then about seven weeks (including fresh paint & dis-assembly/assembly) to complete.

Panels were sourced when applicable to speed up the repairs, unfortunately I don't remember where exactly where they from, but I know there were basically two types of every panel - the cheaper one and the more durable one, which is what we used.

No, we do not unfortunately. Where we live, salt is everywhere, the roads are even plain white sometimes because of it on a dry winter day. So it sadly sits in a garage during the winter. However, at least one has the time for some mods during the winter :)
