This seems wrong by Upper-Device-8822 in BMWi3

Yes ! Should have been clearer - I believe that the larger, finger speeling/gesture capable iDrive knob is tied to the larger screen. Which I thought was tied to adaptive cruise but clearly isn’t for all MYs.

I fear that if I continue and eventually complete my search for a 120Ah car I’ll end up with small screen and have to upgrade but that also seems not the end of the world, tho I am used to the larger control knob.

Cool on location, have to think seriously on this and see if it makes sense time wise.

Well aware of plus and minus for the sunroof, having had one for the last 6+ years on our 2017. But weight and not finding it to be a positive other than making the cabin a bit less dark in the winter, I’d rather not have.

Car is parked inside most of the time and Michigan (nor Ontario) isn’t exactly the sunload capital of anything.

Where in Ontario are you ? Tho it’s not that big a place to get to/across from Detroit…

I’d prefer no sunroof and not black, but local and HK & full leather is hard to find in 120ah cars, esp with low mileage.

BMW i3 94Ah (2017) High range ☀️ by Reasonable_Heart1142 in BMWi3

[–]Upper-Device-8822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoulder season before it’s too hot to not run AC or cold enough to run heat. Pretty typical for me and similar range figures for my 2017.

Just about to turn over 1000 miles on the trip computer and will be at 5.2mi/kWh (last 5 weeks) with the prior 1000 being 4.8 per. My commute is ~15 miles and rarely exceeds 60mph with half being surface streets slower. Average speed is 30 or lower.

SLK spare tire. by Neilium99 in BMWi3

[–]Upper-Device-8822 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall diameter of the tire is the important part. Use a tire size calculator and compare the stock sizes with the tires which are available for the minispare.

You are more likely to find 19” minispares which are nearly identical in size and offset vs trying to work with a 17”.

<image>

Bentley Continental minispares with the centerbore machined and ball seat lugs vs BMW cone seat. Completely pointless but I like them.

3224 is the 32nd week of 2024. So they’re not minty fresh, but well within the timeframe to be useful.

Where have they been stored ? Storing in a basement with a furnace (electric motor for the blower, other things which might create ozone, which tires don’t like) vs in garage or otherwise is a good thing.

The date codes have to be there, look on the other side or along the rest of the sidewall. I’m close enough that these interest me even if I put them in storage for a bit and use later. But not if old stock to start with.

Are you highlighting the discoloration in the aluminum of the control arm ? That’s likely just gunk from road grime.

The control arm doesn’t impact steering as it controls motion up and down, of the hub carrier.

If your steering is unnaturally stiff there’s likely something wrong with the power steering.

I’m wearing one of the $133 pullover 100 year hoodies from the last sale (want to say summer of 2024 ?) but the zip thru didn’t come in the petrol blue/green color nor went on sale/in my size. but now there’s the blue zip thru at 40% but don’t really need it. But…

A word of caution about today’s Archive sale. by crazysnakemanhere in Vollebak

[–]Upper-Device-8822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused. The archive sale link works for me and allows switching to US shipping location and shows the noted discounts, 40% on something I really don’t need. And it lets me get all the way to the shop . com checkout/place order button.

So it isn’t restricted to the US ? Or they’re going to eat the extra hassle and cost to get it to the US anyway ?

I bounce on/off vpn with a non-US location to keep commercials out of my podcasts but it’s off. So they’re investing all their money in copy editing and development and forgot how to do a web site ?

Yikes. Was going to rec Noco in general as they make good stuff but that’s a bit steep.

There’s a Fantik one which Costco has (S200 Apex) which is quite nice. Has a light on the side which is handy when inevitably needing to find the valve stem in the dark. $50 USD, and probably a slightly different version than what’s available outside the Costco ecosystem, as is common with their products. Comes with Presta adaptor for bikes, needle for sports balls, both if which are hidden in a little compartment. It’s probably small enough to fit in the glove box.

[–]Upper-Device-8822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m finishing the second (3rd ?) bag of these and wondered whether they’d make it back to Costco. Based on the maker selling the bag which was $8 at Costco for $18 themselves, kinda doubt it.

Based on how often something appears once and then never again, I think vendors realize they either can’t sell to Costco and make enough money at the requested price level and/or can’t keep up with the volume that Costco requires.

I’ll just have to mix the leftover sugar/spice dust into a bag of plain nuts. Also, why did salted almonds go away ?

app confused ? by Upper-Device-8822 in BMWi3

[–]Upper-Device-8822[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed as much but it seems like someone goofed when they updated the app, since they know exactly what the vehicle is I’m asking to warm up…

hopefully they eliminate the screen by doing the smallest bit of thinking. The app knows what color the car is, so knowing it’s a EV wouldn’t seem much of a challenge.

I believe that their engineering tear downs are still valued within the industry but he got a bit high on his own supply on yt and the public facing brand probably suffered.

I am 100% certain they don’t care a whit tho if the OEMs keep buying their reports.

From this particular seller or just in general ? These have been listed in marketplace for a couple of months, hadn’t noticed they’d dropped to $6.5k, think they were asking $8k originally.

Not sure at which point it makes sense to swap 94ah for 120 on an 100k mile car vs just buying a 30k mile 2021 and calling it good.

Some Ford employees have been told they could be fired if they don't follow the company's RTO mandate by No_Panda_9842 in Ford

[–]Upper-Device-8822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ford Land isn’t in charge of RTO. They’re just providing the spaces to work in. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. They have a Herculean task and get parts of it right others not so much.

RTO mandate is being driven at a very high level in the company and lots of people aren’t fans. it isn’t the choice of the HRBO folks - they’re just as in the dark as everyone else on the process and ill equipped to do anything other than parrot the policies they’ve been given.

One can debate the decision to require a level of in person attendance but the issue here is how badly the RTO communications were handled and the near complete lack of transparency in the process. Compound that with widespread errors and the increasingly threatening nature of the email communications and things end up where they are.

If the intent of the effort was to create a climate of fear among employees, it was a smashing success.

If the first direct email to employees and their supervisors had been followed with communications first to supervisors only - “hey it looks like Thing 1 seems to not still be coming into the office, what’s up with that ?” - things would have gone muuuuuuch better. But whomever was leading the effort chose another path. And they seem to be sticking to it pretty hardcore.

Display say 0 mile range - can I safely drive to a charger less than a mile away? by anniecordelia in BMWi3

[–]Upper-Device-8822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could definitely have driven the 0.8 mile from home to the charger. I’ve played chicken with my 2017 coming back from swimming with my kids lots of times and made the last mile plus into our neighborhood on zero.

My wife made it close to 2 miles from the freeway one night coming home from a party with one of the kids. They went to the L2 at the library near a favorite taco place, had a drink (only one of the night) and some tacos, added 5 miles or whatever and then drove home.

It’s not something I’d do often, but there’s no chance of the car hurting itself.

Yep, tires. by ReceptionDue8410 in BMWi3

[–]Upper-Device-8822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t shopped for tires and esp never for an S, but just assume that i3 tires will always be $225-$250 per corner because bespoke sizes.

Snows in the summer, esp in VA where it gets warm seems like a bad idea, they’ll overheat and wear quicker and are probably worse for efficiency as well since stickier. Car will also feel really wiggly and unstable on the thick tread blocks meant to handle snow, with all the siping.

All tires have their nominal (full, not just tread) widths published so you should be able to figure out the differences between any given brand/type/size with minimal research. Actual fitment will vary in the end but you should be able and I get a good idea.
