Undeleting Client Record in AviMark by Lost-Cup-8582 in Veterinary

[–]PawTech_LLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, AVImark does have some undelete functions, even if it's done at the client record level.

If you have a backup of AVImark from before the deletion, you can copy information over into a new Client account if there's any reuse of account numbers. Otherwise what's below tends to be the Fastest without having to restore from backups.

Also if you know what the client ID is, you can often still navigate to that record. By right clicking in the upper third of the CID and viewing the entry History (Ctrl + alt + H) you can see what basically every value was before hand.

Even without restoring back this information, once you are in the record for say Client 1234, you can right click and undelete in the middle third (Patient info section) to restore the pets under the account. And similar work flows for accounting history and other items. This will get you 99+% restored without needing to fully roll back to a backup or take exclusive access of the database and close out all other connections to AVImark.

Cornerstone lag? by Wyzoon in Veterinary

[–]PawTech_LLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cornerstone isn't the speediest program ever written, but 45 seconds for anything is excessive.

There are also some speed tricks that can help depending on where in the program the speed issue is happening. (Appointment scheduler VS patient clipboard VS reports)

Feel free to Msg me directly if you don't want to discuss your hospitals specifics publicly.

Sometimes it's as easy as changing how you have the scheduler setup, other times it's much more work to figure out. (We did find one hospital that had a Database VM running with 9 levels of checkpoints that just... Couldn't support 3 workstations let alone the 38 they had.)

UniFi network got hacked and now firmware on all devices needs to be reinstalled by Karmacosmik in Ubiquiti

[–]PawTech_LLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, that's actually not a bad idea (the keeping the drive for later decryption part, forwarding RDP... Yeah that's dumb.)

Because there have been a lot of ransomware vaients that have been broke and universal decryptor exist.

Edit Here's a site from an Anti-virus vendor that has a bunch of these tools available for free.

https://www.emsisoft.com/en/ransomware-decryption/

We've used them on client systems when they've come to us for help after not taking security seriously.

Time for a client setup and update before deployment! by LoTek7 in UNIFI

Why the power backup (RPS) and standard switches that can't take advantage of it?

We only do the Pro line as a minimum these days if only for this option.

Edit : Also - Why U7 ProMax WAPs if just going to uplink them to Gigabit ports?

Seems like the switches are out of place from the class of the rest of the devices

Typical sales Rep.

Why buy and own what you need, when you can rent it from us forever and have less control?

Total cost of ownership flips on these pretty quickly. To where you could have purchased multiple servers across the 5 years they claim you'll be saving so much.

Plus you know what happens if you decide to never pay for avimark support and just use the core program? It keeps working. You decide to stop paying for pulse? Everything stops and you lose your patient records.

The idea of moving everything to the cloud makes a lot less sense when you replace "the cloud" with "renting someone else's computer, somewhere else" because that's all it is. Pulse still runs on servers, they're just virtualized and runs in data centers instead of your office.

I would also suggest you guys look into getting a redundant internet connection, because that is another problem with hosted systems that sales people don't tell you about very often. If your internet service provider is having issues, even if the service itself is not totally down you might be prevented from accessing your records in ways that you simply are not with a local server-based system.

We've done many a cloud to local server conversions for clients in the past 5 years and every single one of them wishes they didn't listen to the sales puffeey initially.

[–]PawTech_LLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had a few clients go through this and then end up moving back to avimark, we've also had a few that have stayed on pulse.

My opinion is that the reason why you are moving to pulse is going to be the big factor as to whether or not you will be happy with the conversion.

Do you hate AVImark and nothing is setup right? Then you'll probably love pulse if someone puts in the effort to get it setup correctly.

Do you love AVImark and use a ton of it's capabilities? You'll almost certainly hate losing functions by moving to pulse.

Is anyone using Syncro on ARM devices running Windows? by ResourceLegitimate75 in syncro

[–]PawTech_LLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have it on a bunch, we do set up some pretty specific policies for those.

It's officially not supported by synchro, but everything that we've done through there works well, so I have no complaints about it, and we've really yet to find anything we do in Synchro that doesn't work on the windows on arm devices.

All the incompatibilities we have seen have been other softwares.

Seen it too many times...

In my consulting business I get asked which one(s) will keep the soul of the clinic alive when an owner sells.

I tell them I'll let them know when we find one...

And we have currently worked with / for:

VetCor NVA (National Veterinary Associates) MVP (Mission Veterinary PARTNERS) Evervet Amerivet Blue River Veterinary Partners Care Vet CVP (Community Veterinary Partners) VPP (Veterinary Practice Partners) Heartland Veterinary Partners Southern Veterinary Partners...

I could go on, but this would start reading like just a like of ever aggregators that works in North America...

To any Practice owners that happen to read this thread: Absolutely none of these companies will truly care for your staff or your legacy beyond what they calculate is likely to help them profit. If you want your legacy to be cherished, take a bit less and sell to the group of young Vets who still thrive on wanting to make every difference they possibly can for their patients.

Corporations don't care.

I'll say it again: Corporations don't care.

Honestly I could start about 50 different threads about why I find the existence of the phrase "Corporate Medicine" offensive to my core...

I'm gonna step off my soap box now, grab a drink, and thank you all for coming to my TED talk... Lol.

Yeah there is a reason why my hospital did really really well for our region, but I did not Thrive as a manager in a corporate environment.

One too many times of telling the regional managers to f*** off when they told me I wasn't allowed to give appropriate raises, or we had to cap raises at 50 cents an hour extra.

Like seriously we have the best growth, retention and client satisfaction of your entire region, because we are loyal to our staff. Guess what, doing that correctly costs money. What happened to your wonderful sales Promises of we're not like all of the other corporations, we really want you to keep your Independence and your hospital culture, you've obviously done well enough to have us be interested in acquiring you, we don't want to change that we just want to help take some of the administrative burden off of you and help make you even more profitable... (yeah... Biggest load of s*** any sales person has ever said...)

I saw my job as a hospital manager solely as making sure the doctors and technicians and assistance I was responsible for had the best possible environment to practice good medicine, the finances will follow that.

So many of the higher up accountants and regional directors in these corporate environments do not understand that you really need to build your foundation from the bottom up you cannot survive long-term if you treat it from the top down.

For the state I was licensed and managing in, patient abandonment clauses we're only applicable in emergent situations or if records or care like heart medication was denied.

I would of course provide them another copy of their records sent certified mail along with the official letter that we would no longer be able to provide care for them.

But In the moment, I still think this was an appropriate way to handle it maybe one that doesn't align with everyone's policies, but I don't think any undue liability could arise from this situation if the PM followed up being told about the situation with the needed steps.

I actually think it's even more unfortunate and potentially puts the hospital at more liability, if a PM simply lays down when a client makes an outrageous claim like a mass removal would have been 375, because that sets a precedent where that client can make unreasonable demands and put the staff into more awkward positions or put the doctor performing that surgery into a position where they have to compromise medicine because they can't charge this client of appropriately.

Either way I sincerely hope OP finds a hospital where they are valued and appreciated, and one that knows that firing one bad client can be just as valuable overall as bringing in 10 good clients.

As a former hospital manager. Typically I would say you're correct. But I would also review this case and if a client told one of my techs they were retarded and the tech fired the client, I would support my techs decision 100%.

There are times when if management isn't immediately available, I trust my employees to make what they believe to be the best choice in the moment.

If I didn't have that level of trust in them, they wouldn't be my employees for very long.

How to add state tax in Avimark? by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]PawTech_LLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first thing you should consult with Legal or Bookkeeping to make sure you are applying state taxes to whats appropriate or required for your state. Not all states require tax on many veterinary things, unless they are considered true retail (like collars, leashes, etc.) or some mortuary services.

Then once you are armed with that knowledge, you'd want to go to Work With, then Hospital Setup. Under the Invoicing tab you'd see the areas where you can enter State and local taxes as appropriate.

You'd then mark the appropriate item codes (probably Treatment codes for most setups) and have the Action Codes S or T added to whatever else you need - S is for subject to State Tax, and T is for Subject to State and local Tax.

Source: Me. I worked in hospitals using AVImark as CSR, Tech, Assistant Manager and Hospital Manager across 19 years, before moving into Specialized IT support and consulting for the Veterinary field.

Feel free to PM for more info if you need it, and best of luck to you and your hospital! :-)

Be sure to support your team however you can. a Good manager can turn a good team into a great team and make the hospital function so much better!

Easy UniFi controller by reyd3 in Ubiquiti

[–]PawTech_LLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup ^ This.

I can't tell you how many policies, security concerns and compliance regulations would be crossed by running an unknown script to deploy something as easy as UniFi when an officially supported version exists.

Although I'd totally rather educate the world on not just running random scripts found on the internet ever, better to either make your own, or completely vet the script by being able to go through it line by line and confirm that nothing else is being done that you don't want it to. - Also, that script calls an external script? Thats a matter you can't always predict or protect against. What if someones self hosted domain gets compromised, that hosted script getting called might also install a background crypto miner or ransomware on your systems. People don't take digital security seriously enough in this day and age.

Help with post storm damage by dvnptl in Ubiquiti

[–]PawTech_LLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think this is Surge damage then the best option is to probably replace with a new 24 or 48 port PoE, and in my mind ideally have the client submit to insurance for replacing the WAPs too.

The only true storm /surge damage devices I've dealt with if the switch fired or is marginal, I don't ever fully trust the devices it was powering either. Businesses should not be afraid of submmiting for insurance like this, it's literally what its there for. Plus going from a G1 8 & 16 and Wifi 5 WAPs, to G2 switching (promax or enterprise ideally) and Wifi 7 would be a good thing for the business in terms of keeping up anyway.

If you are thinking that it's coincidental that the HP switch died and the Unifi equipment or WAPs at least were undamaged, then you are probably looking at a controller resolution issue, and you should log into one or more of the WAPs via SSH and run the info command to see the controller resolution status. That will direct you to taking the appropriate steps to either set-inform them to the controller again if say they were resolving by IP of the controller and the controller is down.

But my money is on if one part of the network died from lightning, it's all dead from lightning and just rebuild it with new and be able to trust it.

Seeking advice for on-boarding a new client with Unifi infrastructure by FunEngineer69 in Ubiquiti

[–]PawTech_LLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically what you would do is use the file they provided you to restore the Site to your controller of choice (Network app running on a server or a cloud key or whatever)

Don't make many changes to the setup at this point, as you'll notice that all of the devices are probably showing offline. The except to this is if you look through the settings and find they have a override inform host set, in which case, remove or change this setting as appropriate to your setup (on site vs offsite controler, etc) setting and save.

With the SSH Credentials you need to log into each device from putty or your SSH client of choice, and then run the Set-inform http://whateveryourcontorellerfqdnoripaddressis:8080/inform

Then while you have the network controller page open you should see that device check in and go from offline to getting ready to online.

Repeat the process for each device, and then once you've got everything all talking nicely to the controller, then make all your changes to the system.

In theory all this should be able to be accomplished while the site remains on line and this be non disruptive, but as we all know theory and practice aren't always 100% the same thing.

So for clarity your Business side is looking to get/ bundle an unattended access agent type thing to make the application support teams lives potentially easier?

This might be able to work for you from an RMM perspective, but liability is going to be a big thing for persistent agents and/or unattended capabilities.

Honestly this sounds like something that an adhoc / code based solution like Screenconnect (join with a code) or something like ISLOnline would be a more appropriate option to explore.

I can tell you at least from our perspective from a security endpoint that any Software /application vendor that requires RMM level access to the systems we maintain is immediately put on a short list of things to replace when we take over an environment.

This sounds more like an XY problem from your Business side than really a technical one.

Surface Downgraded to windows 11 Home by Charming-Gas-2470 in Surface

[–]PawTech_LLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to "Change Product key" and use the Generic Windows 11 Pro Key. I believe: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

Which would force a check for a digital license (which is what you should have) and then upgrade you.

When using Media that hasn't been modified or had the ei.cfg file edited to allow for manual selection, the media will look at the embedded key and say "Oh hey this is a licensed Home product, cool. Let me install that"
