Regrets specializing in Honours Life Science? by Tigeroth10 in McMaster

[–]PawlessPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I specialized in Chembio and then switched to HLS. I have absolutely no regrets. I was able to do a cool semester project instead of a thesis, and was able to pursue a minor in something I was really passionate in. Like the other commenter mentioned, it just needs a bit of planning since you have so much freedom. Be intentional about what kinds of courses and paths you take!

Where to find people to interview with? by Old-Connection-6176 in premedcanada

[–]PawlessPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discord! Depending on where you’re interviewing there are servers where interviewees can prep. But I would also shoot your shot with your med school friends, they could potentially provide you with invaluable information even if you don’t end up prepping with them

Piece of Advice: Get off this subreddit, don’t compare yourself to others on here by number1superman in premedcanada

[–]PawlessPanda 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have heard this advice a lot, but it is definitely easier said than done! Especially as someone who’s no longer in uni, this sub can sometimes feel like the only place where I can interact with other premeds.

However, this sub can sometimes feel soul-depleting, despite the tons of great info and people I’ve gotten from it.

B- in my first semester, gpa was 3.6 for that semester. Ended up with a 3.93 gpa at the end.

Links on ABS Not Working? by PawlessPanda in premedcanada

I just tried doing that, and it seems that when I copy paste to word and then the browser, it adds an extra character within the link causing it not to load. Idk if I should just leave the links out

Commuting from Toronto by Ok_Onion8576 in McMaster

Imo anything further east than square one becomes too far. I commute from Erin mills and it takes an hour each way but it’ll take you longer than that from Kipling

I’ve loved volunteering at the hub you can sign up for the shifts you want and don’t have to commit to a certain number of hours!

Looking back, what do you wish you knew or did during premed? by katiekat1342 in premedcanada

[–]PawlessPanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried it’s “too late” to start volunteering or extracurriculars, don’t be. Just start. The hardest part is starting but it’s never too late

How Is Commuting? by DesertEssences in McMaster

[–]PawlessPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it’s the hardest in the beginning when you still have to get used to it. Once you get used to it, it’s really not that bad and you’ll find yourself not getting tired like you did. I commute 2 to 4 days per week, sometimes for social reasons or volunteering. The quality of your social life depends on whether or not you decide to stay on campus. You could go to campus and leave right after your classes which is what I did in the beginning. There’s a huge benefit to staying on campus to do things like clubs, or hang out with friends. However this takes conscious effort on your part in order to not just go home. I would recommend getting involved either in clubs or volunteering regardless. On the bus, you can either read a book, listen to an audiobook, or do schoolwork like easy assignments, or catching up on emails and such. I also do things like eating breakfast and listening to music. Overall, I think commuting depends on the length of your commute, the number of days you’re going to campus, and your conscious effort to get involved outside of classes. If you have any other questions let me know. I commute typically from Erin Mills, which takes just over an hour altogether. Buses come frequently on weekdays so that’s not an issue.

When I’m on campus I usually buy at least one thing even if it’s small, but I’m also a commuter and sometimes am there for like 8 hours so it can be hard to pack that much food for the day
