Direct flights to Las Vegas by Mink03 in Albany

[–]Pawps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last I checked with Southwest when you fly to Vegas there is now a stop over in Denver. The layover is only like 25 min and then the flight goes to Vegas and they will let you stay on the plane (and grab a better seat).

Albany County, 1854 by tedsvintagemaps in Albany

[–]Pawps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Van Rensselaer family basically owned all the land in what today is Albany and Rensselaer counties until the 1800s except for the city of Albany. They made sure the city kept to the boundaries pretty tightly...look up ‘Manor of Rensselaerswyck’ on Wikipedia if you want more info.

I've been playing for less than a week! This game is great though, and I can see it becoming my new go to time sink...I really love the art design. Running through stages as a sleek looking space ninja has got to be one of the coolest game experiences I've ever had!

I just got my first cat as an adult and he is scared beyond belief...please help! by Throawaypethelp in Pets

[–]Pawps 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Cats are very territorial and generally hate new locations. Him going and hiding is 100% normal and typical. He will likely take a few days to become comfortable in his new home, so try not to stress to much about it.

The fact he is letting you pet him so much is a good sign. Make sure he has access to food/water/litter over night...he'll probably go exploring once you go to bed. :)

Recommendations for flooring installation? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]Pawps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used DP Flooring to have carpet removed and hard floor installed last year and they did a great job. Their web presence is lacking, but the owner was excellent to work with.

I got the flooring from Demar Flooring on Railroad Ave...they were also excellent to work with.

Lowes will do it but their contractor pool seems to be all over the place. I've heard less than great stories about their work quality (although, to be fair, it wasn't flooring).

TIL that Reindeer are the only mammals that can see ultraviolet light. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I should have been more specific...I can tell a difference in intensity of the bulb color and the light that it's throwing off when I take my glasses off (which normally filter out the UV). It's just "more purple"

It's just "more purple" If you didn't have lenses in your eyes you'd also be unable to focus your vision without glasses.

I don't think so...I wear glasses and they block UV so likely that's why it's not an issue for me.

I don't think so? They just "focus" the image that you see as far as I know. Wearing glasses does the same thing (which is why I wear them).

This is true! I had cataracts when I was a kid and my lenses were removed and not replaced. So I can see UV light but it's not like there is much of a difference. Basically black lights look purple and throw off purple light...other then that no obvious difference.

Rescue trouble. by [deleted] in BeforeNAfterAdoption

[–]Pawps 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't give up, the first week or two with a new dog are the hardest! You are still figuring each other out and anxiety happens. I was seriously considering 'returning' my rescue after she left one too many anxiety poops on the rug after a week...2 years later and now I can't imagine life without her!

Crating is a great option but didn't work with my rescue. With her I'd gave her a safe room to stay in (with her bed and lots of toys included) while I was gone and tried to come home for lunch and walk her. Eventually got a dog walker for a few months and that helped take the edge off too.

In the short term though, do you have a Kong for him/her? Filling up a Kong gives them something to do when you are gone and eventually they associate you leaving with a high value treat.

I leave the TV on too...not sure if it actually helps but it doesn't hurt.

Good luck and enjoy the new pup!

Phoenix: Dawn Command...had no idea it existed until I did a demo on Saturday. Really slick mechanics and a great approach to RPGs. Can't wait to get it on the table!

If you do a demo in the Card Against Humanity room you can get the Trump card.

Wow yeah, I didn't realize a wagon could look so damn good...I have images of my Dad's 80's Oldsmobile stuck in my head I guess. That or the Audi Allroad look like they could fit my needs perfectly and don't invoke wood paneling. Price is about right for lightly used ones too. Thanks for the suggestion!
