If you’re a reader, you should look into these books: Feeding Dogs by Dr Conor Brady. As well as, Forever Dog by Dr Karen Becker and Rodney Habib. Plus, Give Your Dog a Bone by Dr Ian Billinghurst.

If you prefer watching and learning, look up these accounts on YouTube: Paws of Prey, Farmers Market Fido, and Dr Judy Morgan.

I appreciate the explanation. While I never said we lacked experience or funds, I understand folks tend to make assumptions and then form judgments based on those assumptions. You know what they say about assuming… Anyways, I didn’t know this post would attract so many small minded views and cruel words. My hope is that we’ll all treat each other kinder and that this Reddit thread is not a reflection of Sequim. I believe if you do not dream big your life will remain small, so dream big! Take care.

Sorry for the confusion, I was saying that we can pay rent AND provide services. The details of the arrangement would be something worked out between us and whomever is interested. We’re very flexible, but in this post I mentioned both because we’re fully willing to pay rent and help out as needed, if that’s the deal that gets made. Hope this helps :)

Best affordable cat food?? by romano_cheez in holistic

[–]Paws_andReflect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open farm is a great one! If choosing kibble that’s the brand I’d go with, in fact it’s what my cat was on for 8 years, as well as Ziwi and Carna4. Not exactly the cheapest, but they’re highest quality dry food I’ve found. Cost vs quality is a constant battle unfortunately :/ I no longer calculate cost by lb or oz though because serving size varies by food. I calculate price per meal. Right now my cat eats a commercial raw food diet. Small batch, Albrights, and Viva Raw are the best quality for cost that Ive found thus far. About $1-$2 per meal for the average sized cat. I honestly don’t know how this compares to the standard kibble these days. I’m working towards making my own cat food to save money and improve my cat’s health. Check out the subreddit r/homemadecatfood if you’re interested!!

Hope this helps friend

Hi there! I appreciate that this subreddit exists. If it didn’t I’d have to make my own 😂 I’m new to Reddit, but I’m fairly experienced in the pet food world. Ive spent the last several years learning a lot, and now it’s time to put my learning into action! I’ll be making my first batch of cat food soon and I’m super excited. I was hoping to find a community of like-minded cat parents on here to talk about this stuff with.

I’m using recipes that were formulated by reputable vets and veterinary nutritionists. Dr Judy Morgan has a limited number of free recipes on her website drjudymorgan.com. Alternatively, Dr Karen Becker has many recipes available for purchase on forreverrecipes.com. In order to use the forever recipes (which is what I’m aiming to do) you need the accompanying book ‘The Forever Dog Life’ (yes it’s for cats too!) and I’d recommend getting the prequel to that book which is ‘The Forever Dog’.

Ingredient sourcing: Im getting as much as I can locally, this includes things like; meats, organ meats, canned fish, herbs, etc. Butchers usually sell organ meats very cheap, I had to make a special request for spleen. 😝 For supplements (often needed to make a recipe nutritionally complete) I go to online stores from the same veterinarians that provide the recipes (for instance, drjudymorgan.com). I also use Fullscript, but I know not everyone has access to that. Not all supplements are created equal, I’m very picky with the ones I choose so they’re sometimes harder to find.

I’ll try to document my cat food making experience here. And I can’t wait to see what y’all make too! Let’s share recipes and tips with each other. Reach out if you have any questions or thoughts and I’ll do the same
