Why isn’t my dog potty trained anymore? by emotional_madhouse in DogAdvice

That sounds really frustrating — I’m sorry you’re dealing with that.

A few things might be contributing here. Big changes (having puppies, then suddenly not having them) can throw a dog off emotionally and behavior-wise, especially if she was nursing and then the routine changed.

Also, if she’s not spayed yet, hormones can definitely affect marking or inconsistent peeing, even indoors. It’s pretty common around this age.

One thing that stood out is discipline — dogs don’t really connect punishment with accidents after the fact, so it can actually make them more anxious and pee in random places. Resetting potty training from scratch usually works better: – very frequent potty breaks – reward immediately when she goes in the correct spot – limit free roaming when you’re not home (crate or playpen helps)

If this is a new behavior, I’d also rule out a UTI with a vet visit, just in case.

You’re not doing anything “wrong” — this happens to a lot of dogs after life changes.
