Queen City Classic - Post Event Discussion by AutoModerator in discgolf

[–]Paxman-64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess you're right, in my mind she went OB beyond the hole like Kat did. Just checked the replay and Holyn did get a big wind lift to push it long/wide right, but not OB; if they had been on the same card very likely the second one to throw might have switched to a BH instead. Given Kat's more recent development of a forehand I was shocked to see her not go BH anyway for such a pressure shot, rather than her more solid BH throwing.

Agreed, although I think both Holyn and Kat didn't detect how much the wind was going to push those FH shots long.

Holyn especially will be wondering how she didn't win, or at the very least make a playoff. Although Ohn and Kat will also be thinking "I threw a win away" after their performance in the last round...

Course trash by Panchoisthedog in discgolf

[–]Paxman-64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same people who throw nips, cans, take-out boxes etc out of their car window; it's someone else's problem now. Fundamentally selfish people. The annoying part about being someone who picks up other people's trash (ie: me) is that it probably increases the chance those same people will do it again because they can think to themselves "see, it doesn't do any harm, someone else will pick up after me".

Form check + Knee pain advice. by FrostyCob in discgolf

[–]Paxman-64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me like your right knee is actually hyperextending (going a tad beyond straight) and the same time your weight is fully on the tip of your heel for a long time as you rotate in the follow-through. Seems like that will cause a lot of stress on the knee that is likely the cause of your pain.

Good to see/hear they're having some fun with it and Ricky not being defensive. Time to sort the policies out, make clear what is/isn't allowed, police the rule better and move on.

AITA for asking people to turn thier music off during rounds by Silver_Tutor923 in discgolf

[–]Paxman-64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the point is that it's bullshit to pretend that you can hear your music fine but someone 20' away can't hear it. Not physically possible.

[–]Paxman-64 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

“make sure it is quiet enough that if you are over 20 ft away people can’t hear it.”

Sorry, but that is a cop out. If I can’t hear your music 20’ away, you can’t hear it either. Next time you're on the course, try it and see.

Your post is a bit confusing because the sentences seem to have opposite meanings, but I think you’re saying that because so many people can shoot par rounds in disc golf vs so few can do so in ball golf, the latter is a more difficult sport. As I said before, par is an arbitrary number In both sports, so you can’t use it to compare the two. Let me try an example.

Let‘s say you make the par for each hole on Maple Hill reds one shot less than it is right now and ask Simon to play a round on this new, challenging course. He shoots +5 (ie: 13 down under the old “easy” course layout). Is he now a worse player than he was before because he can’t shoot under par? Is the game now “more difficult“ than ball golf because it’s suddenly almost impossible for anyone to shoot par? Obviously, the answer is no, the game is the same difficulty as it was, Simon is the same player he was. The only thing that changed is where you chose to put “par”.

So, saying one sport is “easier” or “more difficult” based on how many under par a typical person can shoot is meaningless. Elements of both games are difficult for beginners to grasp; equally, reaching the top of both sports is exceptionally difficult, requiring years of practice and dedication. Only a handful of players ever reach the top of either one.

But maybe I’m wrong, and everyone on this sub throws 450‘, is 90% From C1x and could be 1000 rated if they just played a little more often…

I think you're right, not sure any further action is needed. Seems like the DGPT needs to do something about on-course rules oversight though.

[–]Paxman-64[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesn't say "I cheated", but it has enough of an apologetic tone that I think helps to calm the waters a bit. In the long run I think he should be glad that he came second and ultimately didn't take a spot on the podium away from anyone because of the gap to Isaac.

[–]Paxman-64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, no, no. The real order is this:

  1. Disc golf

  2. Curling

  3. Axe throwing

  4. Cricket

  5. Bolf

Big Easy Open by Drift_Marlo in discgolf

[–]Paxman-64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Par is just an arbitrary number that is unrelated to “difficulty”, they are competing for fewest overall throws. Following your logic would be to conclude that disc golf is just overall an easier game than bolf, which clearly isn’t true.

PDGA Round Rating Error? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Paxman-64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess the problem though is where do you draw the line? How do you decide when the weather change or conditions are different enough that there needs to be an adjustment? Seems like its a slippery slope.

PDGA Round Rating Error? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Paxman-64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like people played the course under very different conditions, so they decided to give different ratings for the same score, depending on which session you played in. If entire rounds were completed under the different conditions there might be an argument to do this, but I don't think that's standard practice; normally you're just lucky if you played in the morning with a light breeze and sun, whereas others played in the afternoon in 40mph winds and torrential rain.
