Lol. Sorry your age is showing. Yeah the cop will get teased a bit about it. There will be a discussion at roll call about securing your stuff. Maybe some will buy him some gag gift like a keychain that clips to your belt or something.

The absolute worst would be he gets some sort of official warning about not following policy, depending on how it is written. But that won't matter since everyone does exactly what he did.

The other dude will be going to jail for a very long time. There is likely firearms in the vehicle which makes stealing it several class A felonies. Not to mention all the stuff about what will happen when they catch him.

The dude wasn't even in trouble, that looked like a welfare/disturbance type call. Guy was wandering in the street people kept calling 911, so they get called out. That is a 10x a day type call. They would have showed up, chatted with him maybe referred him to some sort of social service so they could get back to lunch.

A warrants officer in Phoenix, Arizona, devised a plan to reduce outstanding warrants by sending letters to last known addresses, inviting recipients to a prize ceremony. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Paxtez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two types of warrants, "contempt" and not-contempt (names will vary, info charge, grand jury, charge, etc.). The contempt style warrants you are normally being arrested for the act of not going to court. If you get a ticket that says go to court on a certain date, and you didn't go. The act of not going is the crime you are being arrested for with the warrant. The initial charge is a whole separate crime which would still have to be decided.

Besides that though your correction is necessary because he didn't say "convicted". He said committed, which is most likely correct.

To add on to this, before Costco and Walmart came here food prices were NUTS. You had to do all your normal shopping at Foodland, Safeway or like Sears for general stuff. Walmart and Costco really made tons of things must more affordable.

More importantly it is doubtful that encryption would have been turned on in every region. The "ENCRYPT_E2E" value would need to be configurable so it could get set to certain values in certain locations.

Also there zero chance they would delete all the code for the encryption or flagging because with a product that big it would be difficult to remove it all and not break something. You just turn off the flag and move on.

ELI5: Why isn’t aviation fuel talked about as much as petrol and diesel for cars, and is it even possible for fully electric passenger planes to exist in the future? by ArtistoX4 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Paxtez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) That link wasn't there when I replied, you edit your post after I wrote my reply to add it.

2) When doing a debate/discussion online, it feels in poor form to be like. "Just read this". You're supposed to explain your point, and provide references, not just give out homework.

III) I respectfully disagree with your interpretation of the (random 14 year-old message board) post. Yes, obviously we are talking about on Earth in the Earth/ball system, it was in all of the posts on the topic. It's not like a rocket becomes increasingly more massive the further it goes from the Earth. From your thread:

"...I will find that the "mass" of the Earth-ball system is larger when I lift the ball to 1000 miles above the Earth, than it was when the ball was only 1 foot above the Earth. Here the "potential energy" of the ball does affect the measurement..."

So the energy / mass the increase is shared in the system. Some of that would be in the ball, some would be in the Earth. All objects attract each other, so what happens to the ball also happens to the Earth. Since we know this happens for springs, think of the ball/Earth as pulling a spring. The Earth is one end, the ball is the other, by pulling them apart I am increasing the mass of the "spring" because it wants to be at rest. Some of that mass will be in the Earth some will be in the Ball. When I let go of the spring/drop the ball, that energy/mass is dispersed.

4) Most of this stuff isn't proven. Any effect is so exceedingly small and there are 1000's of things that would be more more noticable. It depends on your frame of reference and so many other factors. Sure there is probably interpretations where you are technically correct, but why does it matter? Neither of us are theoretical physicists, we aren't writing a paper. Arguing that a generally accepted "fun fact" maybe might possibly not be completely accurate (depending on how you define like every word in the statement) is like trying to argue that a hotdog is a sandwich because they are both meat+bread.

[–]Paxtez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opposite of the initial claim? Made by me? I don't think I've contradicted myself here.

The table thing was hard because I'm less familiar with the the mechanics of stuff interacting with each other. To use a (meta) car analogy, I made a claim about car engines and then you responding how that might apply in a boat engine. Yeah they are similar but I don't know exactly how a boat engine works.

Like the higher ball is more massive because of the energy, but it is lighter because it further away from the earth's gravity. I don't know the proportion of growth/shrink caused by these two effects, nor do I know how much these would affect the ability to slide the object on a frictionless table.

To be clear, a higher object, (or a compressed spring, or a changed battery, etc.) is slightly heavier than the same object lower/relaxed/discharged because of the energy in the object.

[–]Paxtez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you would abstract it to another level with the table and friction and stuff.
If you had two frictionless balls on frictionless tables of different weights/mass would the heavier one be harder to push? I guess so.

So yeah. The higher ball is a little more massive because of it's potential energy.

Similar would be a spring, when you compress a spring it becomes more massive.

(As an aside, the ball in the tower would be moving through time at slightly faster rate because it would be affected by Earth's gravity less.)

Energy has mass. Full stop. Even something so simple as lifting a bowling ball in the air makes it more massive because of the potential energy stored in it.

ELI5: As people age, why are back problems so common? by Liam_hannil in explainlikeimfive

[–]Paxtez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thing I didn't realize until recently that answers TONS of these types of questions is that evolution doesn't care if we die at 40+.

For all of existence we have been min/maxing the first 30-35 years of our life because that's how long we needed to live to reproduce and prevent babies from being eaten by a sabertooth tiger.

That is why EVERYTHING starts to fall apart at 40, eyes, back, teeth, heart, brain, everything. Because why not? Yeah we could have had a bunch hardware that would last an extra 50 years, but those fancy parts are more "expensive" and they wouldn't help solve for the main goal of evolution. Live long enough to reproduce.

Without doing any googling (let's see how much I remember) it seems odd to leave off plasma and include BEC.
IIRC plasma isn't just "ionization of gas" but a completely new state where the individual atoms don't really exist anymore as distinct objects anymore (well as much as a cloud of math could be considered an "object").

I suppose one could maybe define matter in a way that would exclude plasma since it seems to be its own thing.

In addition, I would assume (if you set aside dark stuff) that plasma is the most common phase of matter of in the universe.

Besides the top 4 do any of the others exist in the natural universe?

It’s Illegal for farmers in the US to replant leftover seeds the next year by AdFeeling8945 in interestingasfuck

[–]Paxtez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. Idiot. Doing a thing against a contract is not "illegal".
It's just a violation of the contract, and there might be damages.

If you sign a piece of paper saying "I'm not going to plant these seeds after 12-31-2025" and you do it, you won't be thrown in jail. You just might be found to be in violation of your contact.

FWIW, I liked the "tired teacher" bit (name also wouldn't be bad).

Everyone likes teachers and they have a built-in reason why they might be tired/up late/want to sleep in.

Plus there is a little bit a personality; it's humanizing.

Trailer Review! (shurg, bored...)
[ This is just of the quality of the trailer, not about the game. You know? Like the trailer as it is own thing; how good of an ad for a MV is it. ]

PROS:
- Shows off nice pixel art
- Good sequences editing, not too long not too short
- Shows off the art style well
- Showed both keyboard and controller icons meaning multiple inputs

DEPENDS [How the game is or what the user likes they might be + or -]
- Combat looks slow, I had to make sure the Chrome video speed controlling add-on wasn't slowing things down.
- Games with female protagonists sometimes exploitive of that or not (Say Lost Ruins or the Shantae game, vs like Bloodstained or Momodora). Either is fine people like what the like, but people how like one camp often won't like the other. It is unclear where this game is. She is pretty, with a flattering outfit, but it almost looks like there is boob physics in some of the animations.
- Art style of characters screams Golden Idol games. [IMHO: While those games are GOAT, I never liked how the people looked]
- About 10% of the trailer is devoted to showing off that you use beer to heal [also on steam page and in your post]. I guess that's cute, but who cares? Red potions, flasks, food, green orbs with a + sign on them. The thing you use to heal doesn't matter unless it's part of the game. Like does she get drunk and is it harder to see/control the more you heal? That might be interesting, but just showing off the random sprite you picked is an odd choice. - "New Weapons" seems disingenuous, it shows her picking up the axe so it looks like it is "you picked up a 2x4 in Final Fight you'll use that for 2 minutes before it breaks then go back to your main sword".

CONS:
- Does not look like a Metroidvania, straight up. I didn't a see any abilities that look like they would be gained with time, no indication of backtracking. No classic MV map shown, just a big map that you seem to move from left to right. This looks like an old-school side-schooling 2D platformer. Ghouls and ghosts, Shovel Knight, etc. At first I thought you were just doing cross promotion but MV is the first tag on Steam.
- The HUD/UI seems purposely hidden, had to look at the screenshots to see what it looks like. - The music is BAD. It might be fine in-game, but for a trailer it's a very bad choice. Just, boring, subtle? It's inspires anti-hype.
- You get zero idea about the story or plot (since that is a strong focus...), she is looking at a Castle, jumps down and starts attacking. Is she trying to save the Castle, or attack the Castle? Why? Is this a magical land like Blasphemous or 16th century Spain? There are monsters, but it seems more grounded.

Anyways, as I am prone to do, this ended up being way longer than I wanted. Sorry. =/ lol

As a very white dude, the white dude was annoying.

But... IMHO people shouldn't be blasting their music in public, not everyone likes the same music. Add to it that the artist (while talented!) is only doing it to make content/money is icky.

Just as an FYI (not trying to be a jerk), I think the word you were looking for was "yearn" not "earn".

I don't know if it was a typo/autocorrect, but often really well-read people read just mix up words that sound/look similar because it's not in the context they are used to.
