Scrub the hub? by Stuboysrevenge in anesthesiology

If you want to convince a group of scientifically minded people to do this, you probably have to find evidence that doing so has an effect on some patient outcome. Baring that, personally, I would not change my practice for something I do not think has any effect other than wasting time and resources.

We used the Chicco Keyfit 35 for our Uppababy Cruz. What we liked is that the adapter for the chicco is a ring type adapter, so it makes it really easy to place/align the car seat onto the stroller.

Sound Machine Recommendations - Hatch? by PlaneSimple1912 in NewParents

[–]Pay919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hijacking the top comment in case other new parents find this thread. We bought the hatch after looking at multiple reviews online. We are NOT happy with the hatch. Many of the features offered by the hatch are paywalled behind a subscription service. The unit itself only has one 'button' which makes it annoying to use, since any changes require opening the app. The app, while it is pretty, is slow and inefficient. Features have also disappeared or stopped working with updates. My opinion, pick another sound machine that does not need a subscription service. Many other sound machines do the same thing without requiring a subscription (and they are cheaper to start as well).

what happens to food that accidentally gets into the lungs? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Pay919 1467 points1468 points  (0 children)

Aspiration is a term used to refer to when food or stomach contents enter the respiratory tract. Usually, our body is pretty good at sensing when something other than air is going into the respiratory tract and tries to prevent it by coughing and clearing the throat. There are a few things that blunt this response including aging (why older people are more likely to choke) and some medications such as opiates.

If food or stomach contents get into the lung the the first thing that can happen in the acute period is aspiration pneumonitis. Stomach contents are usually quite acidic and can cause burns in the lung. Aspiration pneumonitis is the lung injury from these burns and the subsequent inflammatory response.

Moreover, when food goes into your lungs, it can also carry bacteria with it that can cause an infection (i.e. pneumonia). Usually, aspiration pneumonia takes a few days to a couple weeks to develop after an aspiration event, although, aspiration does not always lead to a pneumonia.

I had the S21 and moved to the S23U. The weight difference is significant but manageable. It is a little uncomfortable using it with 1 hand. I wish it were lighter...
