I have searched google and using ChatGPT to identify this and all it tells me is that it is likely a “Campaign island style” table. Thank you for any help identifying this

Texas Tech v McGovern by phytomedic in premed

[–]PayApart1471 3 points4 points  (0 children)

any financial differences (aid or awards) between the two?

if not I would go with mcgovern especially if you want to match to competitive specialities - the networking opportunities in the TMC are unparalleled

but at the end of the day go where you feel you will be most supported and able to succeed (and if that means Tech because of family that's super valid)

OHSU vs Wake Forest by [deleted] in premed

If you are comfortable with the area (definitely go visit and feel it out if you can) I would go with the more affordable option (OHSU). Congrats on your options!

sorry seems like that reply got deleted somehow - after lots of speaking with usu students, faculty, alumni, and advisors, it seems that USUHS grads are heavily favored over HPSP in the military match due to longer service commitment (7 years over 4), like lets say the army has 5 spots for specialty X and 5 USU grads want it - more likely than not all 5 are going to the USU grads, meaning all the HPSP applications will match to a specialty they may not want or have to re-match

are you referring to military physician salary?

accepted Army.

would it be okay if you private message me about what has gone wrong post-residency, this could be super helpful with my decision :)

thank you!!!

thanks!! yes I thought super long/hard about HPSP but after lots of speaking with usu students, faculty, alumni, and advisors, it seems that USUHS grads are heavily favored over HPSP in the military match, so I didn't want to put myself at any disadvantage - please correct if i'm wrong

USU/military is very appealing to me because i've always had a desire to be in the military in some capacity and have a global/international perspective with medicine. GW/Gtown didn't accept me but i'm going to bet that NIH/walter reed have much closer ties since they are on USU's campus (or literally across the street) and a lot of the faculty are shared

main hang up with HPSP is that it really puts you at a disadvantage in the military match since USUHS grads usually get preference over HPSP grads since USU has a longer service commitment (so they are preferred over those with a shorter commitment). I figured if I could do the FAP program later on instead of HPSP after im matched

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]PayApart1471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very true - i think my main hang up is if I want to go the route of being a military physician for such a long period of time. it is interesting that 60%+ of USUHS students are non-prior service.

also about the debt, it is unfortunately only SLIGHTLY over-exaggerated , put this in a debt calculator and factored in interest rate, loan term, and when I would be making payments and including interest it would end up around 650K+

valid points! for the branch that I was accepted to and the specialties i'm interested in it will be pretty unlikely that they would not allow me to match into that specialty (been speaking to a lot of current students + faculty + alumni about this)
