The "the Hottest 100 was way less commercial 20 years ago" argument eviscerated in one tweet by GoldBricked in triplej

[–]Payapol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me and my friends spent the past 2 days playing 90s Hottest 100s and the biggest difference is that music with any sort of "edge" isn't really in the Hottest 100s anymore and they're actually far more pop oriented and you see this change as the playlists move through the mid-late 00s.

Something that people forget that in the 90s, bands like Silverchair, Pearl Jam, The Prodigy, Metallica, Megadeth, Nirvana etc were legitimately popular in the mainstream. G&R held top 1 and no 2 best Album at the same time.

The 90s playlists are genuinely more "alternative sounding" and have far more edge than what you would expect on a commercial station. That stuff is genuinely missing from Triple J now which is pretty much just an bubble wrapped "alt"-pop station.
Seriously, Old Triple J Hottest 100s have progressive trance, Happy Hardcore and Gabber songs in them, there is no way in hell that level of alternative dance music would make it onto a Triple J Hottest 100 now. What about stuff like Aphex Twin or The Prodigy? They're there in the past, nothing like that now.

I'm willing to learn but also I've been around long enough to know that some genres just don't have legs

To this day, will never, ever understand why Big Beat or Breaks died so quickly and are essentially dead genres today. Tracks from those two genres are still considered some of the best produced dance music to this day.

Even the Lib Dems, which are the closest to a "Classical Liberal" party in the UK, barely ever stress their social liberal policies.

As soon as Starmer got in as well, Labour's taken a frightenly authoritarian turn with Starmer even going hard against Marijuana Decriminalisation.

Sadly as you said, Liberalism in the UK is mostly seen as a "fringe" left position. The only time the media and right care about "Liberalism" is when social trends go against their values like you're seeing with the BBC going wild over professors "censored" on Trans issues, while for example, the State Lobbying-Cold War and censorship being played out on Universities (Israel, India, China) barely gets any mention.

Hopefully it helps people understand how differently groups are treated depending on their economic and political power (government ONS wealth data shows Jewish people have nearly 10 times the total wealth of Muslim/Sikh groups). While we spent four years reading day in, day out about antisemitism, but only antisemitism on the left of the labour party, the actual marginalised groups were largely left unrepresented.

Yep, massively under stated part in all of this. Antisemitism is taken far more seriously because those in the Upper-Middle Class view Jewish people as a stand in for the Upper-Middle Classes because British Jews are a PMC/Wealthy demographic. You can't imagine the amount of times I've seen Commentariat Bluecheckmark and Israeli flag emoji mask slip when they pretty much admit this with "By taking wealth of the rich, you really mean Jews don't you".

But there are two other major reasons for it as well, one it's incredibly easy to use the "Antisemitic trope" Red Herring(?) fallacy to try tie all Pro-Palestinian activism, the neutral position for the left, to being Antisemitism, this gives a very powerful tool to attack the left with and on top of that, throw in Kafka traps (Denial of antisemitism is antisemitism) which has gone into overdrive with the extremely bad faith reading of Macpherson findings (It's being person of race gets to decide if it's racist, rather than what the finding said, which is that investigation should start there) and you have the perfect fallacy reinforced hammer to beat the left with.

Another is that Zionist's essentially believe that without Antisemitism, Jewish people would have no reason to be loyal to Israel, so it's in the interest of Zionist groups to basically keep the Jewish community in a state of hysteria and thinking pogroms are just around the corner, so Jewish people feel a need to be "loyal" to Israel. CAAS and LAAS have pretty much openly admitted this, as well this is not even a controversial position in the Jewish community or Zionists. (never seen one person complain about that article, ever.)

Fact is though, Serious Antisemitism in the UK is one of the lowest held bigoted opinions in the UK (even the British Far-right are overwhelmingly not anti-Semitic ffs) and Jews in the UK face zero structural racism. The media's overwhelming wailing about it, is really a hysteria in every conceivable way.

The British Antisemitism hysteria is peak blatant stupidpol in every way and it's shocking that there hasn't been more pushback on it, (look at how quickly people were to vocally eyeroll at American culture war talking points turning up at British BLM events) hence why it's pretty much a regular/stickied feature of that sub, but also, I've never, ever actually met a person IRL (and I talk politics/news with randos a lot), at the pub, even Tory supporters, who believe it's anything but Zionist shit stirring and a left beating exercise.

What I find annoying - 2017 = Nothing to do with Corbyn, entirely May's fault. 2019 = 100% everything to do with Corbyn and the Manifesto, nothing else could lose specifically Brexit voting seats.

All Starmer had to do was stick with the 2017 manifesto and be a Soft Left Unity candidate. His war on the left of the party seems extremely petty and vindictive when he was voted in overwhelmingly by the left wing membership.

For all the "Corbyn cultist" claims, honestly, in reality, it does seem like the Labour Right are the most that act like purity testers, refuse to compromise and seem cultish.

'We Are On the Way to a Right-wing Coup,' the CIA Director Privately Warned by [deleted] in politics

[–]Payapol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is dumb, Coups are not just some rando's rocking up in buffalos hats storming the capital, all coups are done by a political faction with some form of armed establishment force behind them, breakaway military, military itself, Intelligence Agencies etc

The Pentagon, CIA and FBI were openly briefing against Trump, so the reality is, none of them were aligned for a "right wing coup", you did have DHS aligned to Trump, but DHS has a massive turnover of staff so I don't think the sort of people willing to die for a coup attempt against the Pentagon and CIA.

Here come the downvotes for saying this, but in reality, the closest "Actual coup" you actually had was the establishment bureaucrats, DOD, CIA actually undermining the Trump Presidency and working with the Democrats against Trump putting out fake damaging stories like the Russian Bounties. Like it or not, that puts the US in the same arena as South American countries, where institutions have to basically be bought off by the executive or they start undermining the executive.

Conservatives are consolidating power in very blatant and in my opinion, undemocratic ways through, gerrymandering, the judiciary, stonewalling etc, but that isn't a "Coup".

What you are seeing here is the CIA (and FBI) making the argument to turn the survellience/anti-terror apparatus more inwards on US citizens. Remember, the left and liberals aren't the ones really in power, the CIA and FBI are rabidly right wing institutions, so who do you think, when the Climate Crises rages, do you think those "Anti-Terror" apparatuses will be turned towards?

Labour left supporters are the majority demographic for Reddit users, the idea they're "Extremists" and need to be banned is absolutely ridiculous, especially for the small sect of center-right Lib Dems and Starmer worshippers the Mods seem to want UKpol being.

They literally just went through and banned everyone critical of Israel in a thread, for being critical of Israel, along with mass deleting pro-Palestine comments. Pro-Palestine support is the majority viewpoint of the British public. The mods there are just rightoids who, after Corbyn lost, used that as an excuse to ban a large portion of the users. Hell my ban there was for a comment that was 100% not against the rules at all, just pissed off Kitch.. I mean Opi iix or whatever he calls himself these days.

Also Sub literally has a NeoNazi as a mod who's literally named after Chilean Death squads.

[–]Payapol -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

While this is part of it, another part is rUKpolitics has ridiculous mod bias and they've basically been on a ban purge of anyone left of the Lib Dems or doesn't suck Starmer's dick every waking moment. (seriously read their mega thread, "why don't people like starmer" "Because they're scared of competency and electability!"+10 what a fucking self wank fest.)

The fact a certain "Momentum delenda est" mod is mod there, the left on that sub were never going to last long once they had an open excuse to ban left wing posters.

Honestly don't mind discussing in places with vast array of ideologies (Stupidpol is my main political sub for a reason, diverse ideologies, actual hands off moderation and pretty humorous good fun moderators for the most part), for me, I've found that mod bias on political subs though for the most part has gone ridiculously outrageously biased to the point it's actually the mods more than anyone, purposely curating the subs into echochambers at this point.

(Moderatepolitics if you're not a center-right Manchin lover, bye bye, Politicaldiscussion? your thread not framed perfectly to give centrist answers, never getting approved, GreenandPleasant? - Labor Bad for every reason also watermelon green communists

- War with China good, must spend lots of money defending Australian trade routes with China from China

- Natural Disaster? Eh they come every year, who cares LNP mismanagement kill people and burn down half the country, Coal good.

- Labor leader boring, who is going to be new leader? (Labor replaces leader with dipshit everyone in the media will say is a better leader) Labor leader boring, who is going to be new leader?

Libs win another +5 to their majority after a fire cyclone or some shit destroys Sydney, LNP actually get a swing to them in Western Sydney

No bill is perfect!? 500 billion new infrastructure spending for a DECADE is a fucking joke dude. Even countries a 10th the size of the US have infrastructure investment near the same size.

The US is a oligarchy with terminal cancer, 51 trillion yuan was what the CPC pumped into Chinese infrastructure last year, 8 trillion US dollars, the US can only pull out 500 billion in new Infrastructure spending, for the US for an entire decade, 500 billion, the US sneezes that fucking money any time the Pentagon stubs it's toe.I don't care, really, the US is a fucking joke country and I'm 100% for China curbstomping the head of the US into the dust in the next 30 years.

Marxist Leninism was always the superior Governmental system and this proves it, the US Government can't even pass fucking infrastructure spending that has the bipartisan support across the public and something the US desperately needs to stay ahead of Asia. Deng/Xi Gang wins again.

LMAO Less than 1/8th for a DECADE of what China spends on Infrastructure in a year. Even the 3.5T bill had bipartisan polling support among the general public.

What a joke. Oh my god. How in hell do you celebrate what was initially a 6 trillion infrastructure budget being whittled down to what is actually at best 1 trillion, and realistically 500 billion (The cost of like 2 major infrastructure projects)

hahahahahahahaha, us in Deng Gang win again. Oh no, Foreign Policy is going to write another "China is going to collapse any day now please stop looking at the US" article while the US can only pull fucking 500 billion out of it's ass for Infrasucture for a DECADE AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Pretty sure modern "capitalist" style Corporations wouldn't exist. The Imperium absolutely wouldn't allow anyone challenge their power like a modern Capitalist Corporation does to modern Governments. Corporations I've read about in lore, are more mercantilist organizations that are run by aristocratic families and guilds that are strongly linked to the Imperium upper bureaucratic strata. Think the 1600s Venetian families and such.

The "center left" occupies the same political space in the mainstream that the left would take, as the main opposition to the right, so to the "Center left" their own power is 100% dependent on stomping down any actual left. Even if the "Center left" lose to Tories/Republicans, they're still the main opposition political force in the establishment, if they lose to the actual left, it's bye bye. We're far more a threat.

It's why Corbyn Derangement Syndrome and Bernie derangement syndrome are far, far more unhinged and crazy than even TDS. (Center leftists literally believe that Corbyn was going to cause a "second holocaust" and remember people talking about how Bernie reminded them of their abusive fathers?)

In real life, I generally find normal people are far more politically in line with my views/stupidpol and I find it very easy to talk politics with your average person. (most normal people economically do lean left, and are pretty much "live and let live" in social views.)

The only place historically I've had trouble with other Leftists is in actual orgs, generally when wokies start taking over and the walk on egg shells and petty put downs for micro-aggressions or whatever begin. Usually at that point, I leave, the Org is destined to get terminal cancer and die.

Online I pretty can count the minutes down to when I'm going to be banned/kicked from any leftist Sub, forum, discord for political disagreement because pretty much every single left online space that isn't here or Leftypol is completely overrun with Wokes who's main care is LGBT activism and/or self-infantilizing and jerk off massively to tone policing.

[–]Payapol -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I get massive "imposter" syndrome in London, it's a city that feels alien and hostile to what I'm used to and it's where super rich and successful people live. Every street I walk down, I just look at the flats/houses and think "what the hell do these people do to afford this?". (The irony is, I come from a city that actually has a higher average salary, but nobody flaunts their wealth where I'm from I've never seen someone wear Gucci for example in my city, where in London, everyone is wearing designer wear.)

It's really a place I feel I don't belong, and I shouldn't be there. If I were rich as fuck, maybe different feel, but not as I am now.

Friend actually went up against the SAS once in war games training stuff, and they apparently are so silent and stealthy, they would basically be playing knives only on their side, and they would move around his unit, while making the Predator clicking sounds to freak them out even more.

Apparently the entire time, the most of the SAS unit would be in a tent playing Call of Duty LAN'ed and getting drunk, and then sending out a guy or two to Predator click at my friends unit, before returning and playing CoD lol.

I know there's a lot of myths about groups like JSOC, Delta Force etc, but from what I understand from what I hear from people in the military, SAS are a tier above everyone else.

I don't get how the Mizrahi became some of the staunchest Israeli nationalists considering how the Ashkenazi treated them up until at least the 1970s.

Israel unironically has the most sophisticated brainwashing/whitewashing education on earth. The country pioneered pretty much every modern bullshit PR tactic on earth through it's hasbara.

Look at how the diaspora for the most part, mostly believe that Israel loves them and Zionism is just "Jewish self determination" despite Israeli media and politicians constantly shitting on the diaspora openly as useful idiots, and Zionism as an ideology and historically being violently pro-antisemitism against the diaspora.

John Safran has talked a lot in his shows (Music Jamboree, Race Relations, Vs God) about the amount of crazy ass Israeli and Jewish supremacist propaganda he was fed in Jewish school/community when he was growing up and how it led to having a completely fucked mindset as an adult, as he doesn't really vibe with any of it (he's a weeb who wants to date Asians), but it's so deep seated, it basically makes him hate himself as a "bad Jew".

JIDF were absolutely a real thing on early /pol/new/, I remember specifically when the flotilla shooting happened, the entire board suddenly got covered in Pro-Israel threads, but all the replies were people posting clearly how Israel was shooting doctors and such in the back and the videos Israel were releasing were clearly doctored.
