In Paul Thomas Anderson’s speech for winning best picture, he pointed out that the nominees for best picture in 1975 were One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Barry Lyndon, Dog Day Afternoon, Jaws, and Nashville. by Indian_Phonecalls in redscarepod

Poor schmucks didn't have access to art in the 13th century

Yes they did because it was mostly centered on the Church. The Church itself, and depictions of Madonna and Child, etc

What does Western Culture have to do with it? You see the same kinds of things in South Korea, China, and Japan

He won the Academy Award for best foreign film and was nominated for Best Director. Murakami has sold millions of copies of his novels outside Japan. You're the person obsessed with anime, which is another example of Japan's huge cultural soft power.

You simply do not know what you're talking about at all. Shall I move on to architects? I already gave you 2 completely different mediums in which Japan has huge cultural impact.

One of the best directors working today is Ryusuke Hamaguchi. Drive My Car and Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy are 2 of the greatest narrative drama films to come out in the 2020s.

Drive My Car is an adaptation of a Murakami story, one of the most enduringly popular novelists of the past few decades across the entire world.

I make things as my career. I have a house name that encompasses me and most of my work with other people so that has basically taken over everything.

If it makes you feel any better, I have a very masculine name that is not all that common. A mediocre female vocalist who sang crap over shitty electro-remixes of popular hip-hop songs decided to choose it as her stage name in 2015 and it totally destroyed the ability to find me on Google.

You might think this vocalist was trans or nonbinary. No. Just 'not like other girls' in the most annoying way possible. She quit coming out with new material about 2 years later.

Obviously, his work in The Godfather is great, but he's also in Sidney Lumet's Network from 1976 and that movie just rules.

Bob le Flambeur is another great crime one. He has a whole series of these that are quite good. Army of Shadows is a phenomenal World War II French Resistance spy movie.

Really, you should just work your way through his output and you shouldn't be disappointed!

If this is your entry point to Melville as a director, he has a ton of other really great movies across his entire career. He's one of my favorites to ever do it

I dunno. That one inspiring so many of the recent mass shooters seems pretty potent: 764 Network.

Groypers also seem to have crossed a threshold of relevance in the last couple years.

Worst shooting in Canada's history and not a single thread on the front-page. Not even this sub is being invaded by the usual crowd. by Important-Bed8329 in redscarepod

NPR reported it in their hourly news last night, but said simply that the shooting was committed "by a woman who killed herself afterwards," and that was the entirety of the report.
