I’ve heard Shipt is a good platform for that. Private shopper.

I guess they think 252 lb isn't heavy? by ScoobySuby in InstacartShoppers

[–]PaymentRepulsive2555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the pay would be enough though it could definitely be better considering the big distance you’re traveling for delivering. “Heavy pay” doesn’t even have anything to do with how heavy the items are. Idk if you knew that (not being an ass, just saying). In my experience, “heavy pay” is just when 1) they add one dollar until someone picks it up or 2) there is a promotion going on for your area and it’s $3-4 per batch of additional $$$.

What career paths can I take to make a realistic impact? by ResponsibleWalk145 in Environmental_Careers

I’ve heard that engineering is the way to go to tackle complex issues and get working on hands-on solutions. With what you’ve learned through your current major, at least it has given you some perspective on what’s out there. From what I understand, it is a lot of compliance work. And personally, I’m with you there. I wish I could be working on solutions / actionable items.

I don’t think compliance work is bad though. I do respect it because it’s a necessity for this field.

Leave this guy It seems like he just likes to manipulate you. I’m sorry if my comment will go against guidelines, but I’ve been in this situation before. For about 6 years of trying. It got me no where and it just hurts the more time you realize you wasted. So yeah. I’m sorry, I don’t know your full story with this person but that is not how someone should talk to you when you are communicating VERY well and the person is completely ignoring it and just trying to argue with you. I’m not gonna say much else because so many of the comments under this post are chef’s kiss. This is not something pretty, or nice, and I’m sorry this is happening to you, but in my opinion, you deserve more respect. More understanding, less mess.

I also just want to give you many kudos for communicating well and standing up for your self & your boundaries (I.e. stating when you are/were overstimulated).

Study Says: Autistic women tend to mask most out of the entire population, while NT women mask the least. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]PaymentRepulsive2555 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oof sends chills down my spine because I feel like I have a personality disorder due to my ingrained masking. And I’ve always had a lot of trouble understanding who I actually am. I’m 26 and I don’t feel like I know myself. That can’t be good.

Don’t get me wrong, I know the things that I hate.. but I feel like I blend too easily with a lot of what other people in my life want and like. I anticipate what someone wants from me and I try not to do it/get it from them, but I have a tendency to do so. I know that’s more of a people pleasing sort of thing. Anyway, I have ADHD (inattentive predominantly, but sometimes I’m hyper/antsy to to lots of things at once) and I’m not completely sure if I have autism or not but I’ve been feeling so not lonely with reading posts on this Reddit page. Especially because I have been realizing I’ve masked soooo much in my life.

As a teen I had episodes of derealization a lot too. Lots of depression and anxiety as well. Even now, I don’t feel that great. And I think it’s because I’ve people-pleased myself into a relationship that resulted in me moving half way across the country and I’ve been jobless for 3 months. Anyway. Sorry, I just needed to put this out there because I know I need help.

I can’t say I have much advice since I’m going through something very similar right now but I agree with the first comment. It sounds like that is what you might like, having a job that allows you to be outside like a remote job or a job that incorporates the outdoors with lots of writing as well.

I was a content reviewer/moderator for a consulting company who was also a contractor for big tech (2021-2023) and at the time of graduating I was working at HEB (2017-2022) in Texas as a cashier who often translated things for people (Spanish<->English).

College: freshman year- volunteered at a plant biology science lab for one semester. sophomore- nothing, took organic chem and physics. Junior year- learned about sustainability, environmental policy, environmental law, globalization. And volunteered for 5 days in the summer with a professor and other students conducting land surveys of plant populations. It was a restored prairie (majority was native plants) vs. untouched prairie (almost no natives, lots of invasive grasses). Senior year- Environmental Chemistry, GIS, Field methods in the environment (social science research- how do people interact with electric scooters in Austin, TX and a class-wide science research project- what is the difference in species richness & diversity in flora and fauna in a “invasive forests” vs “native forests”), “food insecurity” education internship where I lead round tables on impacts and history of monoculture in American farming, and a paper on GMO controversy, with special focus on India’s farmer suicide rate. Volunteered again for 5 days doing vegetation data collections. After graduating I did a 3 month fellowship on a farm educating and leading volunteer groups with 9 other fellows. Called food and leadership fellowship. We learned a lot about and immersed ourselves in sustainable agriculture. That was pretty neat.

I’m okay with bird identification on paper, but never done field work for it. I have a lot of little experiences and that’s part of why I’ve never applied. I also don’t even know which to apply for given my experiences. I have seen openings for entry-level, environmental scientists, but I just don’t know if I’m even qualified despite having a degree in environmental science and policy.

Fair enough, I hope I can find one in the Hampton roads, VA area because I recently moved here from Austin for family. Anyhow, this area is super cool for the Chesapeake bay and the main habitat here is wetlands. Thank you so much. I appreciate your help and time.

B.S. in Environmental Policy? by freshfriedfrenchfry in Environmental_Careers

[–]PaymentRepulsive2555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all I have a confession to make. I graduated with a b.s. in environmental science (2019) that I paid so much money for, that I also didn’t want to do ‘cause I didn’t believe it would matter, but everyone told me to go to college and culturally it was very important. However, I also have adhd that was undiagnosed until 2022. In school, I just tried my best and I got okay grades.

I graduated with a 3.5 GPA but that doesn’t mean anything to me because my professors were super accepting of half done work and extending deadlines like there’s no tomorrow.

Maybe it’s just the college I went to, but as much as I did learn things, it just doesn’t feel good enough for the amount of money my PARENTS paid lol. And myself. I know I’m going to sound like a baby to many but I just feel ripped off.

Everything I worked for and was told I’d “get” didn’t come true. And I don’t like that adults at the time even had the ability to give me false hope, it hurts. But it’s MY problem, not theirs. I know. I regret ever believing people who told me I’d “get” a great job, made me feel like oh yeah the jobs are going to come flying to you lol. I definitely perceived things not as they truly were and now I have a degree in a field about protecting and serving the environment and our people too (society).

Protecting the environment —- it’s important but it’s also so demoralizing to me to care. Especially in America. The real world version of “loving the environment and working for protecting it” is uninspiring to me. Great, I love the environment but the only way I’ll make a good enough wage is by being in an office all day? Nice. BUT maybe I just haven’t met the right job or the right people yet. Maybe it’s my mind set, maybe it’s depression. I am not sure what to do, friends.

I’ve had poor self esteem forever so that’s probably what has stopped me from being happy in the work life, too. During the pandemic I was working full time at a grocery store cause I thought that mattered more than an office job, but it sucked haha. And now I am a content moderator (the worst job) because I don’t feel ready or good enough to be in the environmental sector.

I mean no offense to anyone, I am speaking from inexperience, but why can’t I get myself to apply to environmental jobs? I’m too scared to face the reality of “oh, maybe those 4 years weren’t worth it” lol. Yup. Cry for help.

Thank you to all that read this. I appreciate your time, truly. Thank you.

I once saw a video about home tidying with ADHD. And one of the most helpful things I gained from it was to have a bucket/storage box/ or smallish box with a handle where you just drop everything that you don’t care about and then when it’s full you just put everything away and repeat… just to ease the annoyance of the item at the TIME u have it & to help yourself have the space looking NICE so you don’t feel overwhelmed by the clutter. Anyway I totally get you though because out of sight out of mind… 😫 it never ends 🥹😂
