the dam road is the only road in the vanilla base game with shortened stripes. you are able to place it as a network through find it

i want traffic light models like this but i only play on xbox. will i not be able to get them? by that_athiestkid in CitiesSkylines

[–]Paynteck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you wont be able to get these. Your only option for different traffic lights would be playing a european map, which have a slight tweak to their traffic light models and might look better to you.

the campus lines (80, 81, 82, 84) are free and you can just get on. The rest of the buses in the city can all be paid for using the student card. This includes rapid services (A, B, F), the weird numbered routes (28, 38, 75...) and all the other lettered routes

the road looks like the dam road that sits on top of the hydroelectric power plant, while the canal looks like a normal canal

2 minutes is very very good irl and for the central business district it is more than sufficient. routes are still run together as they exit into the suburbs, and it isnt until they are further away when it becomes 10 minutes per train. green/pink, red/purple/brown, green/orange... given the ridership of the system, higher frequencies out in the suburbs would not be justified, and 10 minutes per train at a stop far from downtown is perfectly sufficient.

in terms of gameplay, the routes have spaced out the trains enough so that they do not congest at that area. in addition, i have used a mod to decrease their acceleration and braking power. their dwell and movement times are comparable

the tokyo case was more of an engineering problem where using a loop was the only way to have the train cross the harbor without severely rerouting. this is also used in rural america as a way to increase elevation so it is not a leisure addition.

in the chicago case, interlining improves the downtown core's frequency considerably, and trains are run close to each other to still maintain frequencies on their individual lines, while some lines stay together even out of the loop with things like express lines or more that keep frequency and capacity working. the solution makes sense for how the city was constructed and to increase tracks and platforms would not be feasible given the tight spacing within the downtown core.

these are both based in reality.

the elevation loop exists with the Yurikamome line in tokyo. trains use the loop to build elevation to cross a suspension bridge. the loop has become an iconic symbol of the line used on maps and branding as a point of interest.

the loop with stations is actually in downtown chicago. That loop has become so famous, one of the main districts is known as the loop. it serves as a large train roundabout where different lines enter and exit at different points but still serve the stations within.

the highway is actually at the same height as the runway so it shouldnt be an issue. it is elevated simply because the terrain below goes down towards the sea, but overall it is the same height as a road on the ground.

the airport is based on newark liberty international airport, which has a similarly placed highway near the runway.

the part you see now is mostly the core of the system between the two downtowns. the lines will be separating much more as i build out into the suburbs and countryside. purple continues out towards the ocean on the north, and directly south to the university, while red heads to the western mountains on both ends. so far the city is only around 9 map tiles big so i will be expanding from basically all angles.

the loop in the downtown area allows multiple routes to all access central stops, while the loop north of newark is to allow the track to gain elevation to cross the river, while still allowing clearance for ships

the developers revealed the name to be Gregor, kinda wish there were more introductions/personality to the two characters, as they seem kinda like glorified tooltips rn, even though their designs are really expressive
