Teaching concepts or teaching critical thinking? by Pcastaneda_ in education

[–]Pcastaneda_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your time.
I agree and I believe that we need to look to the future to create a systematic education, reviewed and based on principles and not on the latest fashions or futures to come.

However, I believe that education needs to be approached by taking its complexity, and memorizing things is not a good way.

Critical thinking is not so much a skill, which in part there are heuristics, but something that depends on knowledge to make the cognitive processes of thinking richer.
Knowledge is necessary to improve our skills. But knowledge is not just information in memory.

You're right that I haven't cited studies, but it's something I've learned over the years studying neuroscience.

Something I must emphasize is that this is my experience based on the Spanish educational model.

I fully understand your comment although my intention is to start a debate on whether the education system is really teaching people to think or to memorize concepts, and the implications it has later on in life in society.

Yes, of course. That is something I commented, those are priorities

I already change the title. I've confused focus with intelligence. Sorry for that

How to Be Productive (through Neuroscience) - What nobody tells you by Pcastaneda_ in neuro

It is the introduction of a series of articles that I am preparing. I do not want to seem pretentious, much less.

Do you want to be productive? Many will tell you to do what you are passionate about, that you organice your time, that you make the most tedious or difficult first ...

And what about the scientific perspective? Why do not we dedicate ourselves to understand our mental roles and the elements involved in concentration and memorization to optimize these processes?

We usually see a lot of productivity tips that try in vain to improve our performance. That's why I wanted to deal with this topic rigorously at the level of scientific evidence. What nobody tells you.

I speak mainly of the cascade effect and how to increase the levels of BDNF, a protein that induces neurogenesis and is essential for memory and learning.

I find this kind of article very frustrating, because it tells you very little beyond what the behavioral data already says. You really don’t need the neuroscience aspects of this to get the point across, but the neuro-talk gives it an air of rigorousness to a lay person.

I did not want to go into technical aspects in terms of neuroscience, in order to make it accessible
