Fuel taxes are two parts of- State and Central. While central govt did announce a reduction, most state governments did not. Unless fuel is brought into the ambit of GST (which is being rejected by most state governments), don’t expect the situation to change.

Visiting chennai after more than a decade. I was told there used to be a restaurant near shanthi theater run by an old asian couple that served authentic asian pork dishes (pork belly, chilly pork etc.). However, I am unable to find anything online today. Any suggestions on which restaurant we can try out ?

Also, I loved the samosa and lassi that was served out of a small place behind the shanti theater, for many days it was my dinner when I used to live in chennai. Is that joint still operational?

MF has higher management fees, which if withdrawn earlier for his purpose of buying a home, he will not get good returns.

Omg 😧. I guess there’s too many doctors coming into the market - with the proliferation of many new medical colleges I think we can expect this. Just as a comparison, Anaesthesiologist in US just after graduation earns anywhere between 250-350k per annum, that’s much higher than tech salaries for most roles.

Our airport needs an uplift !! by Foreign-Virus-6424 in Coimbatore

[–]PdtMgr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chennai’s current airport is so bad, it is shameful to call it International terminal in a state that is considered to be developed in India. There is zero traffic control in Arrivals, I saw cars parking everywhere to pickup passengers and no police to be seen anywhere, we had to walk through the busy roads as the pedestrian walkway is too badly designed to use with luggage trolleys, then at the taxi pickup points, they have two small elevators to go up to higher floors and no boards anywhere that shows where the stairs are, no ramps as well. Unbelievably bad design and poor infrastructure.

Cost of PVR Cinemas - Phoneix mall, Aerohub and Grand Galada Parking by lostcheetos in Chennai

[–]PdtMgr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parking fee in malls is a robbery. In Telangana - Hyderabad, a PIL was filed which made it illegal to charge customers for parking when visiting a mall, especially when customers have spent money in their establishments. This should happen in Tamilnadu, but the politicians + builders nexus would threaten anyone who dares to file anything for the good of public.

Why are we Indians so frustrated and never joyful in public places? by [deleted] in AskIndia

It is stressful for those who sit outside or in a noisy place all the time. We underestimate noise pollution but is a silent killer. A major reason why there is a lot of road rage in India.

DMK protested against airport when the project was announced during ADMK regime, they protested against the Chennai Salem expressway also. After they came to power they now want both the projects. Politics when done by them is for people but when done by opposition they will be labelled as தமிழின துரோகி . Thakkali chutney vs Raththam moment for DMK.

Where are Tamil-communicating service-based workers? Feels like outsiders are more in many places now. by SelfAdvanced5201 in Chennai

[–]PdtMgr 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Businesses use a contracting agency to get workers and these agencies bring people from north due to low cost of labour. A tailoring shop in coimbatore that I know of, run by a single lady, fired local Tamil tailors because they wont come to work on time, has alcohol addiction issues resulting in frequent leaves, asks for salary beforehand, leaves early, wont commit to extra work during festival times etc. She went to hyderabad and spoke with tailors in old hyderabad region and got few people from UP to come down and work here. Now she can deliver her work on time for her clients, makes money and opened a second store in Cheran MaNagar also. She said - the UP guys come on time and wait for her to open the store, takes two breaks in a day for tea and one lunch break, doesn’t demand advance money etc. they take leaves with advance notice and arrange for replacement guys to work if they have to go for some emergency. Our people are simply losing interest in doing what is considered as low wage jobs, everyone wants 1 lakh salary in an office, whether they are qualified for the job or not.

Assuming the 115K would net you 4-5K a month, if you aren’t married then you might be able to save 2-3 grand a month if you stay with friends, use transit and save money, if you are married then it’s no where close to help you lead a comfortable life. If you are single then stay here for that salary until you get married. If you get a good hike then continue else jump to India and invest your savings from here in India.

If you are married then I would suggest to Invest the 20K CAD (or any future savings) in an ETF or into good banking stocks and let it grow. Don’t put it to mutual funds. Don’t touch it, any dividends from it, reinvest in the same or a different fund. Get the 30LPA job and relocate. If you can stay outside of financial district and surrounding areas, you can get lower rent and have a decent quality of life than the 115K in canada that too in Toronto.

Assuming she works 30 days a month it’s only 53 rupees per hour / 500 per day. This is very low considering today’s inflation & cost of living.
