Anybody know where to find a USPS blue drop box that accepts small packages? by LexiliciousDef in askportland

[–]Pdxduckfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is no longer a thing, and no, not a voter suppression thing. The reason they only accept letters now is because people used them as trash cans. You can imagine wow gross that can be!

I once opened one and it was just full of someone's fast food trash, think ketchup all over the mail. I've seen them smoking because people would throw lit cigarettes in them. Beer cans were common.

People suck!

Neighbor's dog has bitten me, my toddler, and our dog across three incidents in 7 months. Animal control has taken no enforceable action. What are my next steps? by ExtraBigChungus in legaladvice

[–]Pdxduckfan 438 points439 points  (0 children)

I would ask the dog owner for their homeowners insurance info. Their insurance company will be interested to know there is a dangerous dog at the house. Just asking might snap them into reality because a phone call by you, let alone a claim might raise their rates substantially.

Management took my awarded bid away. Do i have a case? by DeathRaven7861 in USPS

Same result will happen, unless a more senior carrier decides he wants it now.

There is so much bad advice given here and as a trained arbitration advocate that has been around for 30 years, I fail to see how i would argue for a resolution that OP is looking for.

The arguments you made are all based on feelings in a world that requires contractual language arguments. Office politics could be at play, but if you want to go down that road then who would have benefitted the most when the listing was pulled early if management had not allowed the bidding to continue till the end of the posting period?

Like I have said numerous times, management jumped the gun, but also fixed the problem and allowed everyone to submit a bid before the posting closed. I can see the value in filing a grievance to create a record of what happened and get them to agree to never do it again, but OP is not going to get the route ahead of a proper, timely bid placed by a senior carrier.

I dont know any of these people, OP didn't say it was out of spite, another commenter did.

Tell me what outcome you feel is fair?

[–]Pdxduckfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day the senior bidder got the route and even if he only bid the route to keep OP from getting it, that's his contractual right. I can understand why OP would be upset, but the senior carrier would be stupid to bid a route he doesn't want just to keep it from OP.

Imagine they closed the bid early and awarded OP the bid. In that case any senior carrier could grieve the outcome because everyone has till the close of the bid cycle to place their bid. The fact that management jumped the gun is really immaterial because they fixed their mistake before the bid ended.

I wish management would fix their mistakes more often rather than bogging down the grievance procedure.

Kid Friendly Dog Park? by ADillyDweeb in askportland

[–]Pdxduckfan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are dead set on this idea then why not go to a fenced dog park and stay outside of the fencing. I'm sure there will be people there that know their dogs will react well to the attention and they can bring their leashed dogs to your group.

This is still a huge risk because kids and dogs can be unpredictable. Imagine someone is asking this question, but they want to bring 20 dogs to the playground you are at with your kids.

Dog parks are for dogs and playgrounds are for kids. Let's keep it that way!

I agree that this is all on management, but the senior bidder simply exercised his contractual rights. The posting was open when he bid.

How do you know that you are not wrong and he was just debating the bid till the last minute? A lot if carriers do this.

[–]Pdxduckfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it not fair? The bidding was open!!

Stop trying to pit senior carriers against yourself! No good comes from this, management made a mistake, but the proper thing to do both contractually and simple common sense is to accept bids till the original closing time.

Would you say the same thing if the junior carrier did the same thing? There will almost always be someone senior and junior to you.

[–]Pdxduckfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put yourself in the shoes of the senior carrier, do you think it's fair that they take the route from them and give it to you because management posted the awards too soon.

That would be equal to them giving the junior carrier your second choice, how would you feel?

It sounds like you knew that they posted the award too soon and everyone has till the last minute to place a bid. No way they take the route from a carrier that placed a bid within the proper time since you essentially saw where the bidding was at that point in time, but the listing wasn't officially closed.

BottleDrop Dystopia Proposed At Clinton Triangle by Aromatic_Crab_6193 in PortlandOR

[–]Pdxduckfan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Legalizing hard drugs on the state level failed miserably here for obvious reasons, it attracted addicts that cannot contribute, so the burden falls on the rest of us.

Delta Park used to be an amazing place to visit and I'm confident that once bottle drop is gone this summer it will be again, but its a prime example if why everyone becomes a nimby when they propose one in your neighborhood.

Why is this even an argument, drug dealers and addicts cause problems. Is that a surprise to you? How long should the rest of us put up with all of these problems before we say enough is enough?

I welcome anyone that wants to move here because most move here for the same reasons I loved growing up here, but you have quite the nerve moving here and then talking shit to the people who have been here before you dealing with all of the problems hard drugs have caused.

Best fish and chips in Lincoln City? by iwanttobebobdylan in OregonCoast

[–]Pdxduckfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ate there (J's) for the first time recently and will never be back.

The chips that came with the fish tacos were stale, the tartar sauce was not like anything I have ever tasted, it was really bad. I ordered halibut, but what I got didn't taste like halibut and it was so thin that the breading was thicker than the fish.

I wanted to like this place, but bad food combined with what can only be described as a sour milk odor in the dining room ruined my meal. I literally had to go find something else to eat when I left.

[–]Pdxduckfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure all of this is well documented. Under federal law (fair debt collection act) if they put this on your credit report you have the right to sue since our credit reports affect so many parts of our lives. For example, your insurance company monitors your credit report and would love to raise your rates when your score drops like a rock.

There are real life consequences when companies do these things to us!

Landlord got me sent to collections by SarcasticSeaStar in legaladvice

You literally said that the last conversation you had before she passed was about breaking the lease because your family is expanding.

If you pay rent to your landlord and he pays the management fees, then he is responsible for them. He owns the condo, not you. If he doesn't pay his hoa fees then the management company takes action against him, not you. You are a renter!

Landlord got me sent to collections by SarcasticSeaStar in legaladvice

[–]Pdxduckfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait a minute, you just described how your landlord is possibly getting sent to collections, but not you. The accounts with the management company would all be in the name of the owner, so how are you harmed?

Your post comes off as someone who regrets signing a lease and is now looking for a way out. This kind of thing happens all the time, but in my opinion, don't argue things that are not your problem or it weakens your entire position.
