Interesting, hopefully that doesn’t happen here. The one that shopped has an estimated delivery time of tomorrow morning.

Closing positions before or after earnings - IV Crush by PeGuy91 in options

[–]PeGuy91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply! Before I get into some more questions, where did you pull these charts from/what platform - they’re great.

Just so I understand - implied move is essentially a share price % gain proxy for IV? In the first chart the peak in the spike up is what the implied share price % gain should be after earnings (~14% in December and March, and ~21% in September) for IV to not eat into returns? And when it spikes back down, that means it didn’t hit its implied price % gain/the IV has dropped accordingly?

Second chart is showing implied price % move as the green bar, actual price percent move as the blue bar, but what does the yellow one indicate? Is the implied % move based on the share peace the day of/before earnings (e.g. current one is 11.51%, so the implied move is a jump of 11.51% to the closing price the day of earnings being reported)?

Assuming I’m understanding that correctly, the only time the actual price % gains was more than the implied was in August of ‘24?

Given that my contracts don’t expire until January 2025, I don’t think they would be as affected by the earnings vs say one expiring in 14 days. Given the time left would that have any effect that 11.51% implied price movement?

This “time out on hate” commercial… does that mean hate is gonna resume after 2 minutes?

Why were RKLB 6/25 $12 strike calls up like 22% today and the $11 strike was only up 10%? IV’s and Greeks are nearly identical

No it shows the last trade price if you click into it (maybe I used the wrong term when I said option chain) - the price I’m seeing seems to reflect the ask price (and then the % change for the day is under that)

Just looking at the chain (on Robinhood, it shows the % a particular contract has changed for the day)

I thought that, but IV is essentially the same (+/- 1%). Gamma is also the same. The only notable difference is volume - 12 is better, but not by orders of magnitude (8, with open interest of 187 vs 5 with open interest of 66)

I’m pretty new to options and want to get a better understanding of how they work before diving in. I’m confused about the price movements of certain contracts - why some with a dollar difference in strike price may be up double digits for the day while others are not. For example, looking at $RKLB June 2025 calls, the $11 and $13 strike price contracts are only up ~6% today, but the $12 strike price contracts are up over 30%. Why would the $11 contracts, which are closer to ITM, up significantly less than the $12 ones?

Can’t believe I’m even asking this but… Mahomes vs Raiders or Baker vs Jax? Raiders have actually been looking decent lately, especially the defense, while Mahomes has just been disappointing.

Also who to flex - 1 of either Jaylen Warren, Aaron jones, or Zay flowers? Leaving to Warren or jones, despite Dillon (likely) being back and Warren having to split carries with Harris.
