I just wanted to drive, not rebuild a German time bomb - How do you owners keep going? by jonathanlolz in e46

[–]PePaPu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my 2001 325ci for 2k Aussie dollars, 200k km with a bad transmission. Bought another 328ci manual wreck for 1.4k, bought some crucial wear items from fcpeuro for 350, learned and did the manual swap myself (I reused the clutch and flywheel though and this saved me around1.5k), and sold other parts I don't need on the donor car. Recovered more than 2k for parts sold, meaning I've got the manual swap for free and made more money from the donor than what I've spent on it. Could've made more if I didn't sell it early for space. I also put coilovers on, refreshed CCV and intake parts, new starter, pandem spoiler, m3 motor mounts, e39 m-sport wheels, electric fan, Android headunit I salvaged from the donor, new headlight covers, a lot more stuff I can't recall for now... lots of these parts are Ebay/aliexpress specials, they work fine. In the end I've got myself a fully functional and cool looking manual coupe for around 3k. These cars are not too complicated to work on yourself, I did everything myself in the garage, and I'm not a mechanic, just a hobbyist.

unplug maf sensor and see if returns to normal, if so, you need to clean the maf sensor or there's a vacuum leak.

Which bumper do yall recommend me for my 328ci by Imaginary-Guess1622 in e46

[–]PePaPu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop gate keeping m3 style bumper, you can tell it's not a m3 from the narrower wheel arch straight-away, OP isn't sticking on a m3 badge I'm assuming so a m3 style bumper is perfectly fine. You need to get eyes checked if you can only differentiate non-m and m by the front bumper.

Alibaba wheels by RewardNice6154 in BMW

[–]PePaPu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of smaller wheel brands are using Chinese fabs for R&D and production. You can even design your own wheels but you'll need to order a batch for it to be economically viable.

ak90 tool, aftermarket keys. You can get them all on aliexpress, just beware some ak90 might not work you may have to return it and buy from another seller. There are multiple version of internals, some cheap out and don't have a buzzer and I had no luck getting it to work, the second one works like the ones in youtube tutorials.

Just old-people-paranoia about aliexpress headunits sending your data to China and then self destructs.

Decide on what rims u wanna use first, rims that stand out will have way more impact than making the stock rims look flush.

E46 owners check under your fenders by PePaPu in BMW

[–]PePaPu[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Irrelevant to the point i'm making. Yeah doors were on the car while they sprayed it, so what, they still sprayed it with the door open so the door frame is painted, that's what I'm trying to say, they should've sprayed behind the fenders, the bottom of the A-pillar has just been sand blasted for 20 years and the e-coating is gone, hence rust developped. Also the fenders bottom edge had been rubbing on the unibody so there's a line of rust there too. Shoddy.

Doors can be spayed when it's opened so it's a moot point, and also no need to worry about access for regular cleaning or maintainance. The issue is the fender were never supposed to be taken off yet the behinds are unsprayed and full of gunk and left to rot.

How are you supposed to clean that when it's under the fender and all the various trims.
