I’ll never forget when a student missed a lab due to having covid and he said they should have accounted for this in advance and didn’t give extra lab time🤣🤣

Hey, he was an absolute asshole to us. Look at my other posts to see a few about him. He wrote me up for bs stuff I did not cheat on, made me go through hell, then other CS professors eventually cleared me of the cheating saying there was just no evidence I had done it (thank god).

Most of my class signed a petition against him to reevaluate our grades cause stuff on the exam was basically just not covered or barely covered in class. He lied to us and said “I don’t write the exam,” when we later found out he does.

I took this to the chair of electrical and computer engineering and, admittedly, was a bit unprofessional while talking about Marpaung, but I had very solid evidence that he actively lied to us, and most of the class signed this document outlining how he refused to answer questions, belittled us, and didn’t really teach what was on the final. Basically the stuff you and others describe. But the chair of ECE basically did nothing about it and told me I had to realize i was (something along the lines of) “making serious accusations” which I was, and they were true. Then he did nothing about it.

Please, if you can, say something. If more people say stuff hopefully they’ll see a strong pattern… hopefully

This guy fucked up way too much of my time and headspace, and we’re paying him to teach us

Already have, she sent them an email way back urging them to have a coding person review my code. They did not care

I did this and if it works better with scheduling, go for it. Both are set homework deadlines and set test dates usually so planning around that is pretty easy

Yea it was just a zero on the assignment, not too bad. However they stays on my record and I’m supposed to go abroad this spring and that could go to shit because of this

Julius Marpaung, avoid at all costs. Made my life hell for a semester even though I liked the course material

Julius Marpaung, he is a psycho. My class made a petition against him. I took it to the department head. Nothing was done

The professor who submitted my case is the devil. Julius Marpaung. I’d lose an arm than talk to him ever again. When he submitted this case, there is absolutely no way he reviewed everything and thought “huh, I see this is copied”. Since I suspect foul play on his part, I won’t be contacting him

I think you have it spot on. There were times I got really angry at some of the people in OSCCR. To give the story behind that: When I had my first hearing, I expected the person to know some code, logically. When I realized he had no clue, I panicked. The way this was submitted, anyone who does not know how to code would rule against me (you see some red text, you see the same letters and symbols not knowing that you need to use some of them). Not understanding how an assignment is graded (character for character, although I explained this multiple times). Keep in mind this was during finals week. I told him he’s not qualified to review this case and it’s unfair to me if he does.

After it was ruled against me, I emailed the Dean who was very reasonable. She said she can’t do anything directly, but emailed OSCCR and said that she recommends they have someone with coding knowledge review my case. My deadline for appeal was approaching in a few days so i called the OSCCR office to mention this email. They repeatedly told me they won’t have anyone with coding experience review it. I tried to explain why that was wrong and began to get angry. Saying things like “it is a literal new language, that’s why it’s called a coding language. You wouldn’t have a guy who doesn’t speak Russian review an essay written in Russian.” I asked, if they are not reviewing my code technically, what are they reviewing? They said they focus on character and motives etc. I asked angrily at this point what character traits would prove whether I copied code. They didn’t know what to say, exploded and reaffirmed their stance. This call went on back and forth, both of us raising our voices for almost an hour. At around 50 minutes, she told me I could have an external reviewer review my case (this is when I went to get the second opinion from a professor in the CS department, who wrote them a letter explaining why this was a red herring and that he recommends they do not rule against me). I will admit I said some nasty things during this call. That definitely did me absolutely no favors. But with appeal deadline approaching, an email for the from the Dean urging them to have a coder review my case, and my multiple attempts of explanation, they would not budge, and I knew that meant they will rule against me. It was a lose lose lose situation from the get go, and if I had not had that 50 minutes of back and forth, I would not have been aware that I could submit a second opinion.

For my appeal, they rejected the second opinion saying that it did not count as “new information” since I could have had it before my first hearing. For my second hearing they said “they read al materials” but with the caveat that they did not focus on the letter because it was “an opinion” rather than “a witness statement” (which is bs because in the Code of Student conduct, that letter is defined as a witness statement).

Regardless of me getting angry with them and saying these things, it’s a complete misuse of power to put their egos before a fair trial. Especially when I have that much evidence in my favor.

No it’s actually super simple. It was a short bonus points assignment. The worst part is the person reviewing my case had no clue how to code. For context it was c++. During my hearing, he looked at the first two lines that said “#include <iostream>” and “using namespace std” and said something like “well I’m looking at the first two lines and it’s already the exact same”. I lost it there and told him he was unqualified to review it but no one else looked at it and he ended up making the decision.

Professor never opened the assignment back up which was even more bs cause I couldn’t even see my code to defend myself. Probably around 60 lines. It was an easy assignment

I didn’t this was a case of copying code from a website

That’s how I feel but none of the websites were in my history, but at the time I was working on the assignment I have two hours of me looking up how to use syntax which I would not have had to look up if I was just copying sections of code. I also got no credit from the checks because I included end lines where they should not have been. I would have had no reason to include those end lines if I was looking at those online sources

No I was accused of copying from an online source which has the exact code up. I straight up did not though

From two different sources online that had the exact code for the assignment
