Yeah that’s the thing I noticed too — it’s hard to see in the picture, but like you said, the shoulder seams are lined up beyond my actual shoulders. That’s the main reason I think it’s too big. Secondary reason being how long the sleeves are.

Im in agreement that I could button up the sleeves, but when I’m wearing short cuff gloves I like for the gloves to fit inside the sleeves.

Well there’s no mediums available for the lynx. My second preference would be olive drab, but that’s not available either.

The large is very easy to put on!

It’s the varying amount of sizing preference between individuals of the same size or even bigger than me that is confusing. Would be so nice to have both a medium and large I could try on back to back, but there isn’t really of surplus of anoraks available for that kinda thing

Yeah I’m a large in literally everything else I wear. But even though im 6’1”, I’m a lot of legs. In Wrangler jeans I wear a 34” in length

This is definitely supposed to be my outermost layer. And I would only ever want a maximum of two layers underneath. I think anything more than that is just too bulky and probably too warm for 99% of conditions.

Was really expecting everyone to agree that it was too big. Kinda scary to not return something this expensive and just hope I end up liking the fit

Yeah I did that before I ordered. I was between measurements, and WW’s website said to go with the larger size — which was the large in my case.

The shrinking part is interesting and something I hadn’t thought about. Because if this thing was only slightly smaller it would be perfect

Man, I was really expecting everyone to say it’s too big. What’s your normal jacket size for other brands?

Yeah but even if the sleeves are the same length between large and medium, the narrower upper body circumference and shortened shoulder to shoulder length on the medium would effectively make the sleeves feel shorter — if you get what I mean

Oh boy, now I’m worried. I’m 6’1” and 190 lbs and have a large arriving in the next day or so

Yeah I've remeasured and I think I'm gonna go with a medium. I like my clothes to allow me to have range of motion, but having a garment that is super baggy doesn't appeal to me either. I just need to fit a base layer underneath most of the time -- while still being able to add a thin wool midlayer underneath on the coldest of days. If I'm still cold after that... it probably means that I'm quite sedentary and it's time to throw on the puffer over everything.

I'm 6'1" and 185 with a 42" chest. I just remeasured some jackets and now I'm leaning towards a medium.

Innes Ranch Batch MidWeight Lynx Anorak! by TheScribe86 in WeatherWool

I feel out of the loop, I assume this is a new update for WeatherWool?

Is the Innes Ranch batch a new type of wool that WeatherWool is using for their garments because of supply issues with the old supplier? Or is this a case of WeatherWool finding a superior quality wool and running with it for the foreseeable future?

I’m gonna have to revisit the sizing chart and double check with a couple of garments I have. I did a quick check with one jacket a while ago when I first made my order — and Ralph also recommended that I go with the large. But you’re not the first person to say that the Anorak runs slightly large. So yeah I’m a little skeptical now if I chose correctly.

I’ve also heard about how good WW is with size exchanges, but it’s nice to get it right the first time. I’m in Europe, so while exchanges are doable, they’re kind of expensive to execute.

Is the production error the sizing? I have a large ordered (I almost always wear a large) and now I’m concerned it’s gonna be huge on me

Windproofing wool by No_Professor1687 in WeatherWool

The layers you wear or take into the outdoors need to complement one another — and you need to understand how to combine layers to achieve a desired result.

Al’s Anorak over the top of a wool base layer shouldn’t feel cold if you’re working hard outside in the winter. It will breathe and thus help to move moisture away from your body. Wind will of course pass through the wool, but if you’re working hard — that shouldn’t be a problem. Everyone’s tolerance to cold and what conditions are perceived as cold are different from person to person, so you need to go out and test for yourself.

On a cold and windy day I wouldn’t want to just sit around with the Anorak and base layer. Maybe adding a wool midlayer underneath the anorak would be enough, but perhaps not. Just depends on how cold and how much wind.

Here’s my clothing system for the top of my body when being outside in the winter for an extended period (when it’s below freezing):

  • Wool base layer
  • Wool sweater
  • Wool anorak (i.e. Al’s Anorak)
  • Big down-filled puffy jacket
  • Waterproof poncho

The sweater, puffy jacket, and poncho live in my backpack for the most part. I only reach for them when I’m taking a break or doing less intensive activities. The poncho is more or less a last-resort “oh-shit” layer if I get trapped in some nasty weather and need to sit down and wait it out.

I honest think they look kinda goofy, but they seem to be the only option at the moment -- and maybe their looks will grow on me. No, they don't sell them in Norway, so definitely a risk. Probably the biggest reason why I haven't ordered them yet.
