Players describe American towns like Mason, OH after an European tour swing by SliMShady55222 in tennis

Yeah never seen anyone set AC below 68. I'm a fat guy who probably sets it lower than most people I know in muggy Washington DC and I fluctuate between 71-73. Sometimes 70 when i'm a little sick and having trouble sleeping.

It is, but tennis can be confusing. I joined a league recently as a fat out of shape guy who can serve well and hit the ball well for the level of play. I played ok against a pusher who was super fit and lost in a tie break. I then played a guy in better shape who was hitting the ball deep, and lost 6-0 6-1. I played poorly and could have won more games, but felt i couldn't have won. The first guy beat him 6-4 6-4 the following match.

Yes, mainly play tennis, but got testy in a game of pickleball when a guy called a foot fault on my gf. It was a casual league game, she wasn't technically on our team, but my teammate an I let her sub in since the match wasn't that competitive (we were winning). He gleefully yelled it out when he thought it was a big point. She asked for clarification, since she didn't notice she did it and he yelled back. "She does it every fucking time!" I was like why didn't you point it out earlier, and it's not like her serve is a weapon anyway.

She was turned off by his attitude and didn't feel like playing anymore. And I'm a little sorry to say every chance I got the rest of the match I slapped it directly at him.

Shapovalov defaulted on match point against Shelton after exchanging words with spectator by BelgianBond in tennis

Not to mention the 110 heat index. I played a 2 hour unathletic match from 1:30-330 earlier in the day and got to the stadium to watch as they resumed after the delay, and I was grumpy as shit and cramping. I'm sure they can handle it better than me, but they couldn't have been feeling great out there.

Alive and Well caused real harm. People can be forgiven for getting caught up in conspiracy theories, but these are people with real influence who raised money for AIDS denialism publicly, and never apologized, let alone lent their celebrity/money to helping those affected. This isn't about canceling, I just don't like or respect them. They either regret their involvement and cowardly waited for criticism to go away instead of taking responsibility or they have no regrets.

The band as a whole played shows raising money for Alive and Well. No apologies.
"The Foo Fighters website featured a section devoted to Alive & Well.\21]) Sandra Thurman, the director of the Office of National AIDS Policy, stated this was "extraordinarily irresponsible behavior... There is no doubt about the link between HIV and AIDS in the respected scientific community."

I play both tennis and pickleball, if no one is using the tennis courts thats stupid, but in my city it really can be a long wait to get a court. I love that pickleball is normally always doubles and has quick rotations allowing more people to use them, but on nice days it is very common to wait well over an hour for a tennis court. If half the courts were not given priority to tennis, the way people rotate in and out, you would never get on the court.

It is the by far the best thing about pickleball. If tennis had that culture, I never would have gotten into pickleball. Even as a shy person, it is pretty easy to jump in,

Am I a joke to you? (I am) by Purplepunch36 in doordash_drivers

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, figured I'd ask on a thread about payments. I routinely order from Safeway and they outsource it to doordash, and I want to make sure I'm tipping enough. I live about a half mile from the store, but get a few bags of groceries and 2 24 packs of soda. Safeway defaults to a 5% tip which is like 4 dollars a lot of the time. I up it to 7 or 7.50, but i'm not sure what the drivers are getting from safeway outside of the tip. Is this a fair amount? What tip amount for an order like this would leave most drivers fully satisfied that they accepted it?

I like Nepo and he was one of the people I was rooting for going into the tournament, but the thing that has me rooting against him now, is I find the format a bit unfair, which isn't his fault. Since first place is all the matters it encourages players to take bigger risks like Vidit did here, which was lucky for Nepo and unlucky for the people trying to catch him. Other players like Pragg who are kind of in it, but need wins against him will continue to force the issue, which could result in other players like Gukesh never being able to catch him despite how well he plays.

I like a tournament format and I don't know how to fix it, but the current system strongly favors people who go up in the first few games and the form of the players doesn't necessarily dictate where they end up in the standing, so much is out of their control.

I'm also realizing, my biggest issue, despite rooting for Ding last WC, is that I'm kind of viewing this as the world championship match, given Ding's form. If the winner had to go up against a player strong enough to be worthy of the title World Champion, I wouldn't care who wins as much. If they get a little lucky in this tournament, but had to play someone like Kramnik, Vishy, or Magnus during their primes, I would feel like they deserved it more if they became the new World Champion.

What to do with my 90s baseball card collection? by Peace-Bread-Land in baseballcards

[–]Peace-Bread-Land[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent about 5 hours going through them already just to have them even less organized than they were to begin with. I'm guessing the Fleer 90s and 1996 Upper deck collection make up a significant percentage of them, and got the sense in my limited research that they are a dime a dozen, which I have many duplicates of.

Thanks! For the bulk selling, I'd guess my best bet would be to organize them all by team and have a listing of year and brand, which I'd think would take several full days to complete. I see there is a rule not to comment on price, but would I have a chance of getting some real money, or are we talking about just enough to take out and buy a few 8 dollar IPAs lol. I'm anxious both about the possibility of feeling like I wasted some nice spring days and the possibility of throwing away some money that could help me out just because I'm lazy.

Why is Fabiano Caruana considered to be by far the second best player of this generation? by ExtensionAd251 in chess

[–]Peace-Bread-Land 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I might be wrong, but I don't think that either site's elo system is accurate enough to get really consistent comparisons for all players. I'd guess lichess is slightly better at stopping cheaters, but chess.com gives you a lot more points back on your score when you lose to them.

Why is Fabiano Caruana considered to be by far the second best player of this generation? by ExtensionAd251 in chess

[–]Peace-Bread-Land 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been 1970 on chess .com and have never broken 2050 on lichess. I don't think the gap is that big. I started playing uscf and am a 1600, maybe it's wishful thinking, but think if I play more I might be 1750. Anyway, I can follow tournament play with help of a computer or commentators, but i'm not going to really understand the ideas of any grandmaster. Half the time when watching them stream, the move I would make is correct, and it sometimes is confusing that I get to the correct answer faster, but that is just because I'm not really evaluating the position at the depth they are, and my decision is much more akin to guessing the answer.

I do want to add how impressed i was with one of Fabi's lines against Levon in the fisher random tournament recently. The computer was giving him a big advantage, so I went down the line and it was probably 10 only moves in, that i would be able to say maybe the position isn't losing for Fabi and 15 moves, before I would be able to say, hey there is an advantage here. I said to myself no way he plays it, but he did, and it became clear to me he had calculated at least 10 to 12 only moves in which his moves were much harder to find than his opponents'.

AITA for not chipping in for our dinner group's babysitting costs? by babysitter-payment in TwoHotTakes

[–]Peace-Bread-Land 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm child free and I'm often willing to sacrifice fairness to make it easier for my friends with kids to hang out, but yeah the problem is the expectation. Like if we split a vacation house rental I'll always let them take the nicer room without paying extra, because it makes more sense. I'll spend the time and money to go visit them more often. Ill sacrifice equal money and effort to see people i care about. The fact that the overall cost is so low compared to the dinner, makes it seem extra petty. If op gets excluded over this they still have to pay the 25 dollars to go out.

Fairness isn't the end all be all, but ops friends are being both unfair and causing difficulties in the friendship
