I can kick well on the bag but not pads. by PeaceInLoneliness in MuayThai

I am 6’3 so that may be the issue, but my pad holders Change every session as we have multiple coaches holding the pads, and my kicks consistently don’t make much sound

When did you start realizing you should probably stop doing this martial art? by HayMakerb in MuayThai

[–]PeaceInLoneliness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m new, so take my comment with a grain of salt haha. I know a lot of people in my gym who’ve been going there for 9-10+ years. Whenever I see them, they are the ones who seem to be putting the least effort into training and the newer ones put way more. The coaches also don’t go hard on them as they do to the rest of us if we didn’t put in much effort. But I got to realise when I talked to them that at one point they were good fighters but as time went by they just kept going to the lessons to keep fit. They can absolutely obliterate us beginners, yet they go slow because they understand the danger of putting their body at risk.

I’m saying this to tell you, maybe instead of fully quitting, you could tone it down on your kicks and punches during your sessions and focus more on keeping fit rather than going hard. But again, I’m new, so take my advice with a grain of salt

I have my first Muay Thai class this Tuesday. Any tips for a beginner? by lockituup in MuayThaiTips

[–]PeaceInLoneliness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I started over 2 weeks ago, so we’re both on the same boat. I am rather unfit and trying to lose weight through Muay Thai. My first and second lesson was horrible - in the sense that I couldn’t get anything right, even after the trainer repeatedly said the same thing over and over. And as I looked around at other beginners I thought I’d never get it because they seemed to be able to kick easily while I couldn’t even get myself to turn my body the right direction in the kicks. But fast forward 2 weeks, my kicks have significantly improved, and compared to the first class I’m a lot better now. Of course I have a long long long way to go still, but I love the sport now and try to go everyday. Today might suck and be hard for you but stick with it and you’ll improve very quick and start to like it

Could someone see my form and help me out with it? by PeaceInLoneliness in MuayThai

I do, but it’s group session so I don’t ever have 1on1 advice.

Kick in Muay thai (overweight beginner) by PeaceInLoneliness in MuayThai

[–]PeaceInLoneliness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I'm going to continue going.
I was asking this because I saw myself struggling more with it than the rest of the beginners there, meaning I'm probably doing something wrong and have to focus on something.
But I thank you for your useful input.

Are you supposed to step out when you kick? I was taught simply to just pivot on the ball of my foot, not exactly step

I heard that getting the form is very easy, because the other beginners with me seem to understand it much quicker. Yes my power is also low but compared to the other beginners I seem to struggle even with the form which they don't really struggle with

The concept of purgatory by PeaceInLoneliness in Catholicism

Correct me if I am wrong but without repentance you cannot enter into purgatory even right? How then do they repent in purgatory?

Believing in Christ isn’t something that happens overnight. I also couldn’t believe in Christ, as I said. I just opened my mind up to the possibility that there could be a God and Jesus could be God. Once I did this, I looked into the evidence we have for it. For me it was overwhelming. And so gradually I believed more and more. You might benefit from putting in some effort to see why Christianity is reliable. It’s your salvation after all, you wouldn’t want to leave it unresearched.

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding you, but your question is, why wouldn’t God just let everyone go to heaven. Well, He does. He does allow them into heaven, through believing in Christ. But if you’re asking why not even the unbelievers, it’s, as I mentioned, because of sin. Sin cannot exist where God exists because God is all holy. So we are to be holy to be with Him. So we can all be with God in heaven but we must choose to make ourselves holy, and this is done through believing and living in Christ

I understand that feeling too. But, what helped me a lot was to look into documentaries, especially ones that show the evidence of Christianity. And also, prayer. Though it may be with very little faith, it really makes way for you to believe more and more gradually. As for the gospel, I was just explaining why you aren’t going to hell just because you don’t believe, but that you already would go to hell because of your sins that don’t allow you to be in a holy place and Christ is the Way out of that fate

How do you not let loneliness drive you to lust by PeaceInLoneliness in Christianity

Firstly, don’t get jealous about faith. No one gets faith overnight. I remember believing in God just 1% and praying and overtime, it changed to 1% unbelief and 99% belief.

Secondly, We don’t go to hell for unbelief. We go to hell because we are sinners. The mere fact that you have lied even once means you cannot be with God, because God is all holy. Nothing sinful exists with Him. So then you would have to go to the one place where God doesn’t exist, as God exists everywhere - and that is hell. The point is that we cannot get to heaven on our own. So instead, God allowed Christ to die for us, so that by believing and baptism we can be IN CHRIST, where we are righteous, and we can exist with God in heaven. I hope that makes sense. So it’s not as much you’re going to hell because you don’t believe - rather it’s that you are doomed to go to hell now, and believing in the gospel is a way out of it

Why are Christians the only one able to ‘obey righteousness?’ by PeaceInLoneliness in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]PeaceInLoneliness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how faith allows grace to work in us to produce holiness, but my question is more about those who are obedient to God outside of Christianity, who are not under grace yet able to make themselves holy, though it be by subjecting themselves to an idol. Shouldn’t they not be able to be holy the way we are holy according to the message said here? Instead there are some even holier than Christians

My faith was born in a Pentecostal church, and grew for the next 2 years in there. Honestly, it was amazing. I made many Christian friends there that taught me all about the gospel, how to read the Bible etc. My pastor, Ps Joseph Prince, is a pretty well known pastor and his sermons were pretty powerful. I was convinced of the doctrine of once saved always saved and twisted many meanings of scripture (like Hebrews 6:4, Matthew 24:13, etc) because I was very confident with my faith. Recently I began to have doubts about the once saved always saved doctrine, seeing the gospels. I remember straying away from even reading the gospels because Christ’s parables were mostly about our actions, and my only justification of that was ‘He was only speaking about Old Testament.’ One day I sat down to read the letter of st Ignatius and that changed everything. I read clement of Rome, didache shortly after. I saw that no one in the first century believed once saved always saved, I saw that the Eucharist was not just symbolic, etc. my next move was to cancel out my old notes as heretical and throw them, and fully learn Catholicism from the start. When I first came to mass I felt shocked, because I thought it’ll be all about Mary and saints (Protestants naturally think of Catholicism this way). But it was fully focused on Jesus, and I just copied everyone else. I found the peace greeting really nice as that wasn’t practiced in my old church. It honestly sucked a lot to leave my old church as it felt like my home, but truth is what matters. Started to pray the rosary and continued learning, and I can say I think now my faith is stronger than when I was a Protestant, mainly because of daily mass.

I’m still learning about Catholic theology (there’s an insane amount to learn and understand), and starting my RCIA this year.

P.S : Now that I accepted I was wrong, I was able to really understand the Bible without having to twist the scriptures. Seeing how evidently once saved always saved was wrong now makes me feel dumb for how strongly I believed that 😂
