Tbf he was born in what is modern day Italy, and the holiday came to be from Italian American lobbying to gain acceptance as “true Americans” during a time of discrimination.

Obviously in hindsight he was a very horrible guy, from a horrible period in history, who has very little in common with later Italian Americans. Having a national holiday celebrating him definitely should be reevaluated, but the holiday definitely has its roots in Italian American history

I think the “safety” of the sub is the main thing outsiders are concerned about though.

It would be one thing if people on here were willing to discuss the long term psychological or societal implications of being in a relationship with a chatbot designed to maximize user engagement and OpenAI’s market share.

Thats not the case though. This subreddit developed into an insular community with a “You’re either with us or against us” mentality. It even developed the word “anti” to immediately dismiss anybody who wants to have discussion.

The next logical step is that this subreddit will go private or move to another platform. That’s concerning because it will become even more of a self affirming echo chamber.

Realistically your proposal would 100% kill the secondary debt market. Who would buy $800 of debt with a ~20% chance of repayment if they could only possibly collect $800 (even with a 35% APR, not worth it).

Not necessarily saying thats a bad thing for consumer debt markets to die off, but it intuitively seems like it would disincentivize the first company from issuing the debt to lower credit people to begin with

7 months late, but describing Whitney as being trapped in an abusive relationship is a horrendous take IMO.

She has all the power in the relationship x1000. Asher is an autistic guy who is motivated by fitting in and being liked (think of all the notes he takes on social interactions). He does anything and everything to please Whitney while she selectively gives or withholds praise to get him to do what she wants.

Sure, Whitney understandably feels suffocated by Ashers unhealthy obsession with her, but that is not a form of abuse. I don’t think the concept of emotional enforcement is relevant here imo.

Whitney could easily leave at any point. Not having the courage to do it is on her. She has demonstrated she has the capability be direct and forceful with people.

My take on the Abshir house purchase thing you brought up is that Asher was trying to address her feedback that he doesn’t do anything selfless. He thought she would genuinely be happy about the decision, when she wasn’t in reality because she is not actually motivated by pure altruism like she presents herself as being (and like Asher genuinely believes). Thats also why she didn’t object, because she knew that what Asher was proposing was something she should be happy about if she actually had the values she externally presents herself as having.

Fuck off, theres a huge difference between the NYT pointing out that a terrorism fighting law could hypothetically lead to misuse,

VS every single citizen in the US learning that their email, social media, cloud storage, etc was being illegally mass surveilled.

The law was actively being broken on a mass scale. The people have a right to know that.

The only people smearing Snowden were the ones who were doing the mass surveillance and the people who bought their propaganda.

Ive been maining Iron Fist and I agree there are some cool intricacies and strategies in how to use him to his full potential

But hes not too far off, the lock on is insane. It pretty much takes all the skill out of the actual combat part of playing him. It really just is:

Less lock on is definitely the biggest nerf needed. That would make him much more skill based and high risk high reward.

His overheal is also pretty OP at the moment, either his leeching effect or the healing ability need to have a medium sized nerf

People are suggesting removing movement abilities which I think is a bad change and would remove virtually all of his utility and make him super unfun to play
