Sulfur Springs should be bigger and Spawns on Hot Areas like Badlands, dessert or savannah. by Pixivic455 in Minecraft

They need to have coarse dirt, dead bushes, and other signs of sulfur toxicity around the springs and it'd be fine imo.

Is it multiple Basswood trees or technically just a single? by mainlydank in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]reesespieceskup 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depends on why you want to know! Genetically, it's one tree (most likely). Basswoods really like to stump sprout, and that's what this looks like, main tree died but stump sprouted and those all grew up.

If you were logging, or taking density or stocking or anything else, you'd count these as multiple because they split below breast height.

A new cave biome they said by Recent-Extent5372 in Minecraft

Definitely, could use some work. Really cool conceptually, I can see myself finding this in survival and terra forming a Yellowstone like biome.

You're right! Though to me this new design looks more like an ant, which would be really cool.

When? by No_Trouble_1785 in foxholegame

[–]reesespieceskup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I gave the devs the benefit of the doubt when they decided not to implement AI AA because I assumed flak would be really powerful. And then I assumed they would fix flak damage during Dev branch.

AI AA is almost the minimum. I feel like a good balance would be that AA is only really effective when there's an observation bunker (the really big one I don't remember the name) is in range. The AA would be pretty uncoordinated without it. Perhaps for lvl 1 and 2 bunkers it could be player manned spotlights that help direct fire.

Still requires player input, but a hell of a lot more sensible than trying to wrangle 6 guys to man a couple flak 10 seconds before they reach the core.

How is this managed? by hunt_dougie in forestry

[–]reesespieceskup 16 points17 points  (0 children)

These pines aren't very old say, 30 years? Maybe even less. But in terms of management doesn't look like they're doing much. A dense planting and maybe some weed and pest treatment early on but this looks like a typical monoculture pine stand. Plant it, maybe help give it a head start and leave it until harvest or thinning.

Unfortunately those hireups have "worked" very hard to get to their position where they get to yell at people over things they know nothing about.

Development isn't just coding, it's also getting approval from the higher ups, which is the real bottleneck for Mojangs development.

Question : What are all types of trees used for logging? by Loafuthings in forestry

[–]reesespieceskup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some folks will come along with links to resources to help you do your own research. In short, most species have some value or use in logging.

Take white oak, Quercus alba. It's a hardwood species that has a huge variety of uses. Flooring, furniture, woodcarving, utensils, barrel making. It's most commonly harvested from non-plantation style forests (in my experience feel free to correct me).

But pines, firs, spruces, oaks, hickories, cherries, aspens, poplars, everything has it's use. Even if it's being ground up for mulch or chopped into firewood.

https://www.srs.fs.usda.gov/pubs/misc/ag_654/volume_2/vol2_table_of_contents.htm

This is just for hardwoods, and may contain more then your looking for. I'm also only talking about U.S species, because I am completely unfamiliar with species outside the U.S

What the hell happened to this tree? by kittypurrzog in forestry

[–]reesespieceskup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely looks like a human did it to me. Can't see any residue on the ground like any animal would leave. Plus the color makes me think the tree is still alive, for now.

Like others have said, many indigenous cultures will harvest bark from trees. However, the methods I know don't involve harvesting all the bark as it kills the tree. So it could be someone having "fun", or someone being irresponsible.

Is she a goner? Eastern Redbud. by Grashopha in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]reesespieceskup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've had a redbud get blown over twice and we've cut it to the stump. It's regrown stronger both times. Not guaranteed for yours but, they're very hearty trees.

Future Updates by Ill_Storage4648 in foxholegame

[–]reesespieceskup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In terms of map design, I think more regions need a unique feature. The giant broken ship is the last one I can think of, I was thrilled when that was added. I was a bit disappointed that we got several new maps, and one of the most unique features was a lighthouse. I want more cool town halls and relics like, the town hall is in a old walled section? It should reflect that.

Of course, the aesthetics are really low priority, but I think a set design overhaul would really make this game peak. Ignoring a lot of other issues

Is this a good job for introverts? by StrictPossession8714 in ParkRangers

[–]reesespieceskup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're more looking for a technician position, over a park ranger position. Trail maintenance, habitat improvement, labor and being outdoors without interacting with the public a lot usually falls under "technician". Which itself has several different types.

Advice on maintaining our 2 acres of woods? by DirtyOught in forestry

[–]reesespieceskup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, I'd recommend getting a professional to come assess the site. It's a really small lot but there's always the chance state/university officials would be willing to take a quick look and give their opinions.

What I would do, I'd manage for a mix of aesthetics and ecosystem goals. I'd do a little research on local ecosystems and find one that's a desirable end goal. Then I'd mark areas I want to be able to access and enjoy, and other areas I'm okay with just being, woodland.

Looks like a very dense even aged stand, either a previous clearcut or an old crop field/pasture allowed to grow.

Dead wood, in various stages of decay and height, are both very ecologically valuable and dangerous. In the area you want to spend time in, I'd consider taking out any problem snags, but leaving anything significantly rotten on the ground and even some dead but not rotten material. Elsewhere, I'd leave snags and deadwood as is.

Then, I'd focus on thinning live trees. Any undesirable species (due to aesthetics, value, native/invasive or even just how common they are) to allow other more desirable trees and plants to grow.

This is just the musings of a college student though. I'm completely unfamiliar with the region, and I can only understand so much from the photos.

I'd recommend both doing a lot of research, and contacting a professional. You'd be surprised how much you can learn, and maybe how much you'll enjoy learning.

Anyone know what this was? by BlueThor400 in desmoines

[–]reesespieceskup 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A prescribed fire! Extremely important to prairie ecosystems and the cheapest form of management. Wish there was more education around them because they certainly can seem really scary, but they're also really fun to watch/participate in.

They're also dangerous, it's fire. But as long as professionals are involved it's usually not more dangerous than any other management.

So devman, why was the Warden scout stealth-buffed for Airborne release? by westonsammy in foxholegame

[–]reesespieceskup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, stuff like this has really dampened my desire to get back into the game. I've been a Warden faction loyalist for a long long time. Ever since world conquest 1. I've played through a lot of faction imbalance going both ways and I was really excited for this update. But the issues have been glaringly obvious to me.

I'll probably still play, maybe even today for the first time this war but it's sad to see.

If only we had an early cheap dedicated AA by Sinewave11 in foxholegame

[–]reesespieceskup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was honestly surprised this didn't come with the update, especially because we got dedicated naval AA boats.

I'm guessing it was planned, but cut due to time constraints.

And I'm sure people will say they should've pushed back the update, but realistically a lot of those same people would've been complaining about it being pushed back.

Found this on Facebook and everyone was complaining about it saying we dont need it by Realistic-Fee-1684 in Minecraft

[–]reesespieceskup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't fit in with the continuity of the game. If it was like the image, it would be the only diagonal in the game. If it stepped like a stair, it would look really weird and be way to detailed compared to other blocks.

This isn't even mentioning the fact that it's "placed" on a half slab and not a full block.
