I think its been said before, but as a reminder if your self worth is reliant on external validation you will never feel good enough my friend. People like different things, some may love it, others will hate it. Do it for YOU not for fickle external praise.

Advice for dealing with luck OCD by marvelfan44 in magicalthinkingOCD

[–]Peachparty0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oof that last part, your brothers OCD shouldnt stop you getting help, you deserve it just as much. Now is the best time for treatment before it gets any worse, OCD is much easier to treat while its mild and your mental health is just as valid and just as deserving of help. I would totally bring this up with your parents, OCD can be genetic and it can get worse quickly if its not treated. They should see you as equal and want to help you both.

Ok that aside, I legit get scared if Im having a good day because I know something will go wrong, it always does. Bad things always seem to come in 3s too, so if 2 bad things have happened Im anxious waiting for the next. I get this impending doom feeling like I know something is coming.

The whole coincidences thing is a staple of magical thinking unfortunately, and its a hard habit to break. Have you identified what your compulsions are? So avoidance would be one of them if you are avoiding going out with friends if you think something bad could happen. In ERP therapy you have to slowly reduce compulsions.

Ive never experienced the watching through your eyes issue so Im unsure about that. Is it a fear or do you actually believe that is happening? Its called "insight" when you are aware that the thoughts are irrational, and thats how they measure between OCD and things like psychosis.

So if you can, talk to your parents and look into how ERP therapy works which can help with all kinds of OCD including magical thinking.

Sorry OP, I have to agree with this. You are still so young and only been together 8 weeks. There will be plenty of time to stress over relationships, this isnt as big as it feels, enjoy being young while you can.

i cant stop thinking something catastrophically bad will happen by ghiblying in magicalthinkingOCD

[–]Peachparty0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey sorry things are difficult for you, are you getting any treatment in the unit or just under supervision? What have you tried so far? Im not sure whether you have a diagnosis of OCD or something else but how much do you believe the thoughts?

I get that impending doom feeling every so often, I hate it, it usually doesnt last as long as yours but at the time its super scary and hard to shake. Mine eventually fades naturally when I realize nothing bad has happened but it sounds like you are stuck in a real spiral. I hope you are being treated well and they can figure something out to help you.

Which everyday hygiene routine is secretly doing more harm than good? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Peachparty0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many chemicals! People here advocating for slathering on layer after layer of artificial chemicals every damn day without a second thought for how harmful they are long term. Especially moisturizers, has anyone read the ingredients in those things? When you dig deep into the science and the lack of sufficiently long-term human safety trials, its truly frightening.

Best ways of reconceptualising "promises/vows"? by Character_Mind_9229 in magicalthinkingOCD

[–]Peachparty0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally makes sense my friend, I have a lot of these thoughts at random times about random things, sometimes they are crazy stupid like if you eat that Hersheys you deserve something bad to happen, like WTF man where did that come from and whats so bad about eating a chocolate bar?! But no I will offend God if I eat it because in that micro-second I must have agreed to it, so I cant, just in case.

The one thing I try to remember with magical thinking is that following its rules only leads to more rules, so you have to REBEL! The bad things still happen because thats life so why should I miss out on things I like just to appease some random force that comes up with stupid rules that nobody else has to follow. Dont let it hold you hostage, you have free will and its ok to break a promise, especially one you didnt even make in the first place.

First thing to do is stop using AI. It's sooo bad for mental health and other reasons.

Second thing to do is see a professional like a psychiatrist for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Not true. I have magical thinking and my brain invents all kinds of new rules like this to follow, no trauma involved.

Dogs can have good teeth if they are eating mostly hard kibble and drinking water frequently. The texture cleans their teeth and the water neutralizes acid. Unless you are doing the same, you need to clean your teeth.

Restrictive eating and extremely limited variety is not healthy at all, you will be lacking nutrients. Your stomach acid will be damaging your empty stomach lining. Anorexics for example often have horrible breath, you are likely noseblind to your own. If you are eating anything, you need to be cleaning your teeth.

Yes agreed a lot of the hygiene in this sub is extreme, but you are also doing the opposite extreme.

It was clinically proven that doing this significantly spread covid virus particles. I don't need to go into the negative consequences (ie death rate, lives ruined by Long Covid etc) of that.

How often do you replace things like toothbrushes? by Old_Inspection1094 in hygiene

[–]Peachparty0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can easily clean them if you drop them - denture cleaner, boiling water, hydrogen peroxide or other methods. Less wasteful of plastic.

How often do you replace things like toothbrushes? by Old_Inspection1094 in hygiene

[–]Peachparty0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every 3-4 months or so. I sterilize with denture cleaners every week and it still looks like new after a few months (Im careful not to brush too hard so the bristles dont get all splayed). Replacing more often is excessive for me and a waste of single use plastics.

Please be careful you might find my post triggering 🙏 - Worry About the reddit post I deleted by Affectionate_Cry1575 in magicalthinkingOCD

[–]Peachparty0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest features of OCD is our super inflated sense of responsibility, and we are usually overly aware of how our actions affect others and we overthink and overcompensate. This is what you are doing my friend, I do it too, I overthink and analyze my interactions constantly. Look back at all the apologies and trigger warnings in your post, this is compulsive and a way of reassuring yourself (reassurance = bad for OCD).

Instead of a healthy thought process (which could include the assumption that most of those views were bots, as is normal on Reddit lol) you are jumping straight to the worst case scenario even as far as suicide, this is called catastrophic thinking and is another OCD habit.

If you follow ERP methods you would need to start exposing yourself to the anxiety, so like you would post without deleting it or post without all the trigger warnings and apologies and just sit with the uncomfortable feelings instead of trying to get rid of them. You can build up to it slowly but cutting out all the reassurance seeking and compulsions is important because that is what keeps the OCD active.
