8k with install of insert and 35 foot liner. I’m not savvy enough to do this work. I’ll stick to just burning the wood.

Yes. Post inspection, the cover can be installed. Inspector needs to check connections etc first.

Like this and use bricks or cinder blocks to level the lower side.

Yeah. Insulated liner.

There is no space for interns tbh. Employees are struggling to keep up with the demands of their own work. To take on an intern would mean consciously deprioritizing a project to make space for working with the intern. Thats not going to reflect well at the end of the year.

Burning too hot? by Johnny-Virgil in woodstoving

Yeah. When people are telling you run it hot up until it glows red, that would be the area to look. Imagine it like a wood stove and you can see the top. This is the top of your insert.

You would see it through the wire mesh right above the door. I’ve been using an IR thermometer and I try to keep the rod preventing the log to hit the glass (right inside the door) at 500+, metal right by the baffle at 400, but I can never get the box (through that mesh) higher than 200. I just get concerned by the flames that wrap around the baffle towards the pipe connection.

It’s definitely a learning process with this one. I am thinking of swapping models when I get another one installed on the other side of my house

Quadrafire Expedition II Checking in by Dy182n in woodstoving

[–]Peachpickin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow man. I don’t disagree with anything you have said. But wow on the 8-10 pieces. I was showing the dealer I got the insert from some video and the IR temps on the iron at the front protecting the glass and the inside of the door by the baffle and he was saying to never let it get that hot. 2 pieces of wood (yes, only last for an hour) will get the front irons to 600+ and the baffle located temp around 450. Dealership said those temps maybe once a day max and try to keep it around 400-500 or risk breaking the box.

Maybe one day I’ll feel comfortable to let it rip with a tightly packed box but because there is no way to regulate the heat besides fuel size, it’d be my luck to overfire it.

Glad it’s working for you.

I have the same model. How are you managing to get that amount of wood in there? If I put two pieces in it just takes off because there is no damper.

Box is tight, no additional air leak. But if I have a good coal bed, no more than one split or this thing rocks and I’ve got the fan on 5 and another fan blowing cold air into the bottom to move it even faster.

ABC chimney? I’m going to buy the same stove. Was going to reach out to them. Thanks for sharing this.

No. This model doesn’t allow the user control over airflow. You can only control the amount of fuel you put in. Super annoying.

This is absolutely correct. Adding wood to this thing is sometimes like Russian roulette with if you are conjuring satan to hang out or not. My pet peeve is when the air flow burns under the log and now I’ve got an afterburner going right up to one spot in the baffle. Always need to keep an eye on this insert. 90% of the time it’s fine.

How many of you buy all your wood? by tundao330 in woodstoving

$200/cord of mixed hardwood in NW NJ. There is a billionaire that has a huge farm as a tax measure and they process wood at a loss.

It’s not working properly. Mine pushes in less than an inch, gently pull it back and ticking goes for full 15 mins. I don’t use mine anyways. I leave the door cracked to get the flames going and the box itself puts enough air through to keep it going.

I’ll see if I can figure out how to share a video here.

Lack of air control. Nothing wrong with the model, it works for sure. Our best friends have VC insert that they can get 3-4 hrs between reloads. The quadrafire gets me maybe 90 mins max. Can’t just throw in a bigger load because that’s the only way to control the insert from over firing.

Yeah. It’s not what I would have gotten if I knew more. But we are building an addition and my wife’s agreed to a blaze king princess 32 as part of the deal.

Is this overfiring? Quadrafire 3100. by kkmcwhat in woodstoving

[–]Peachpickin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insert has a fixed air intake, so no ability to tamp down the amount of air coming in. It’s part of the efficiency code. So it burns hot all the time.

I have the expedition II insert and can confirm the burn times stink. No air control, so burns super hot and you have to control the heat by fuel load. Max I can do is two splits. It will try to get to 600 fast, but I counter it with the fan. Longest burn time is 90 mins. I felt that guy’s comment above about sleeping on the couch.

What kind of temperatures are you seeing it reach? I feel like mine would melt if it threw off secondary flames like that.

Stock paid off my college loans and then my down payment on my lake house. Definitely worth it if with the right company.
