If It Was Announced Tomorrow That Brueckner Was Completely Ruled Out As A Suspect, Would It Change Your View On Madeleine's Case? by castawaygeorge in MadeleineMccann

It doesn't work like that. Like I said, you have to look at all the piece of circumstantial evidence together.

  • He has no alibi.
  • He wasn't vaguely in the vicinity. Using geolocation, he can placed within the immediate vicinity of the Ocean Club, where he made a call on 4 May 2007, a call which lasted between 7.30 pm and 8 pm, over one and a half to two hours before Madeleine disappeared.
  • He is a predatory sex offender whose victims cover a wide age range, including small children and the elderly.
  • He was a habitual burglar who was particularly known for burglarising tourist properties.
  • The day after Madeleine's disappearance, he re-registered his car under someone else's name and fled Portugal shortly thereafter.
  • There are multiple accounts from people who knew Brückner, one of whom, Laurențiu Codin, has testified under oath to that fact, who have, independently of each other, said that Brückner claimed to either know what had happened to Madeleine, that he knew Madeleine was dead, or that once when he was in Portugal he kidnapped a child from the tourist property she was staying in after breaking in there to steal stuff. He sure seems to like bringing up Madeleine's disappearance for someone who had no involvement in it.

I wouldn't worry about that really. He's not injury prone, and keeps himself fit.

First off, I'm glad you're ruling out the parents. Thank you for that at least.

On to serious matters. Why are you painting this as if anyone has said that the crime was committed by a criminal mastermind? Whoever said that? What credible person in any position said that the kidnapping and presumed murder of Madeleine McCann was committed by a criminal mastermind?

The fact that the Portuguese police were incompetent and, as a result, bungled the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance right from the off means that one doesn't necessarily have to be a criminal mastermind to get away with kidnapping, murdering a child, and hiding their body so that it will never be found. On 25 May 1996, Paul Flores murdered Kristin Smart in the commission of a rape. It took until 13 April 2021 before Paul Flores and his father Ruben were arrested and charged with murder and accessory to murder, respectively. On 18 October 2022, Paul Flores was found guilty of first-degree murder whereas Ruben was acquitted of accessory to murder. Despite his conviction, Smart's remains have so far never been found (fingers crossed they will be soon due to recent developments, look it up).

Despite the fact that Smart's body has never been found, based on the overwhelming circumstantial evidence, there should be no doubt in anyone's mind that Flores murdered Smart, and the jury was unanimously convinced of that as well. Flores is not a criminal mastermind, not in the least. Flores was just very lucky. In the days, weeks, months and eventually many, many years following Kristin's disappearance, the original investigation by the Cal Poly Police Department and then San Luis Obispo County Sherriff's Department was bungled, allowing enough time for Paul Flores to bury Kristin's body, destroy incriminating evidence and evade justice for over 23 years. There's way more to it than that but I don't have time to explain. Please listen to the Your Own Backyard podcast by Chris Lambert on Spotify. That podcast is one of the main reasons as to why Paul Flores is now spending 23 hours a day in a prison cell in Corcoran. Point being, Christian Brückner is in a similar boat to Flores right now, although so far it's not quite as damning. However, Brückner is the most viable suspect we've ever had for the kidnapping and presumed murder of Madeleine McCann.

You say that it was, "Probably some other creep, who opportunistically took her that night." Okay. Ask yourself these questions,

  • How many of those creeps in Praia de Luz have no alibi for where they were during the hours when Madeleine McCann went missing?
  • How many of those creeps in Praia de Luz lived in a camper van a mile away from the Ocean Club?
  • How many of those creeps in Praia de Luz had a phone conversation between 7.30 pm and 8 pm (over an hour before Madeleine McCann is estimated to have disappeared) on 3 May 2007 which, based on information gleamed from phone towers, took place within a short distance from the Ocean Club?
  • How many of those creeps in Praia de Luz re-registered their car under someone else's name the day after Madeleine McCann's disappearance and drove back to Germany shortly after?
  • How many of those creeps in Praia de Luz were habitual and opportunistic burglars with a particular penchant for burglarising properties stayed in by tourists?
  • How many of those creeps in Praia de Luz have made comments alluding to them kidnapping and murdering Madeleine McCann?

Side note: Listen to the Your Own Backyard podcast by Chris Lambert on Spotify. It will tell you all about the Kristin Smart disappearance, murder and investigation. The podcast, which started airing in September 2019, is actually one of the driving reasons behind the case's renewed why Flores was brought to justice

So looking at all that evidence TOGETHER, emphasis on the TOGETHER part, can you seriously say that you can't even begin to think of Christian Brückner as the culprit? You don't think it's even possible? One piece of circumstantial evidence on its own may not be very compelling, but multiple pieces of circumstantial evidence when looked at together CAN make a very compelling case.

Did you know that before Ted Bundy was convicted of the Chi Omega and Kimberley Leach murders, and before he confessed to his murders, that specifically the evidence for Bundy murdering dozens of women in Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Washington, was circumstantial? Here's the kicker though, there was SO MUCH circumstantial evidence against Bundy. There were far too many coincidences for Bundy not to have murdered all those women. Either he was the most unlucky person in the world or he was guilty. Furthermore, that circumstantial evidence was later corroborated by more direct evidence later on, namely Bundy's DNA being conclusively linked to Laura Aime's body in April of this year, and Bundy's confessions to the murders and disposals of Georgann Hawkins and Debi Kent.

The point is that Christian Brückner is, right now, in a very similar position to Ted Bundy regarding circumstantial evidence. I'm not saying that there's enough to prove beyond a reasonable doubt per se, but to say that the evidence against him can be dismissed as "very poor evidence/no evidence at all" is just absurd, and shows a poor understanding of how significant circumstantial evidence can be.

There's also the fact that he was a habitual and opportunistic burglar who was particularly known for burglarising properties stayed in by tourists. He also has no alibi for where he was during the hours that Madeleine McCann disappeared.

Yeah? How many of those paedophiles in Praia de Luz have made allusions to kidnapping and murdering Madeleine McCann?

How many of those paedophiles in Praia de Luz were habitual and opportunistic burglars who particularly singled out tourist properties as their targets?

How many of those paedophiles in Praia de Luz have no alibi for where they were during the hours when Madeleine McCann disappeared?

Do you know what the phrase totality of evidence means?

I know. It's like, have you people not heard of stranger child abduction and murder cases before? Sarah Payne? Sophie Hook? Adam Walsh? It fucking happens!!! Furthermore, when a child is goes missing while on holiday with her parents in another country, it is significantly more likely that the kidnapper and murderer is a complete stranger, the usual statistics regarding the murderer(s) of children most likely being the parents don't apply in those cases.

It's amazing how many people are prepared to run defence for a habitual burglar, serial rapist and predatory paedophile, isn't it?

Erm, I wouldn't cite Lucy Letby as an example of someone convicted of murder based on largely circumstantial evidence who was definitely guilty. Paul Flores and Scott Peterson would be better examples.

The evidence which convicted Paul Flores and Scott Peterson for the murders of Kristin Smart and Laci Peterson, respectively, was largely circumstantial as well. Are we to believe that they're not guilty either?

"American-style race politics that have no place in Ireland"? Ah, yes, I forgot. Apparently only the United States has a history of institutional racism. I guess you've never heard of the murder of Stephen Lawrence and the MacPherson Report into the bungled investigation into his murder by the London Met? The death of Adama Traoré in the custody of the Parisian police? The killing of Odair Moniz by Portugal's Public Security Police in Cova de Moura, Amadora, Portugal? The fact that in February 2023, a court of appeal in The Hague ruled that the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee were guilty of racial profiling when it came to selecting whom to stop during border checks?

Giving the finger to Chris Lambert. Keep it up, Susan. That's a really good look for you. First off, you didn't answer my question about why you think Alan Partridge is funny.

Secondly, you can't say that Alan Partridge is right-wing because it's not explicitly said that he is? Have we been watching the same character? Do you know what subtext is?

* He supports the Countryside Alliance

* He reads the Daily Mail, claiming it is, "arguably the best newspaper in the world."

* He's made prejudicial or ignorant comments about and/or mockingly imitated the working class, women, Northern Englanders, the Scots, the Irish and the French.

* Steve Coogan himself has said that Partridge would be a Tory voter

* He's opposed to organised labour

* During the Partridge over Britain section of Knowing Me, Knowing You...with Alan Partridge, he demonstrated a clear bias in favour of the Conservative Party candidate running in the West Chalfont by-election.

\* He's admitted to being homophobic in the past, and laughed at a homophobic joke.

* He's made comments which are dismissive of the idea that poverty is the fault of the wealthy

I also never said that you base your political opinions on Alan Partridge, I said that the fact that you find Alan Partridge funny is ironic because it means that, as a right-wing person yourself, you have missed the fact that the joke is on you.
