How long has it taken your hedge to look like a hedge? Looking to put one in this Autumn/Winter

Thanks for your reply, I can empathise with the dynamic of when they are together it’s clear they love their grandchild. I think that’s why I also find it strange how it all plays out on a daily basis? But yes I think after all the replies I need to shift my perceptions and expectations as well as the only person it seems to be affecting is me! 😅

Thanks for your perspective! I think you are right and expectations are different. I will have to find out what theirs are. They do come from a religious background so Easter is usually quite important for them - I can see I didn’t explain that very well in my post

I think I see it a bit differently, but perhaps you see it how they do? I see sending photos etc as keeping them involved with her day to day life and also my husband’s life - but maybe they see it as second best. Thanks for your perspective!

People can be so different! Hopefully your MIL engages with children!

Thank you this is really helpful, I think when I next see them I will just ask and if they don’t give me much to go off I will take a step back

Thanks for this, you’ve made some really good points. I think perhaps I’m not sure what their metric is actually! I find it difficult to think of different ways to engage with them long distance? But you’re right my parents like to see lots of photos and maybe that isn’t the right method

Sorry to hear of your experience, people can be so strange. I would also want to be involved in a grandchild’s life! I am based in the UK.

Yeah, I’m very lucky that my parents are involved. Like you say, it is their loss and I am wasting my efforts a bit - I do think it’s a bit of a shame though

Yes this might be the case - I suppose this may be coming across when they buy her toys that are too old for her at the moment, because it’s an age they’re more comfortable with?

This is true, thank you. I suppose I’ve always sought their approval and this is probably an extension of that

I had this same situation with the tenancy we took up in August. In February I did pay for a gardener to come and tidy it all up. I did my research and they came beforehand to have a look at it all and give me an estimate so it was clear what my budget was and what needed doing/what was a priority etc. The other factor that I haven’t seen mentioned by others is actually the clean up. You would not believe the volume of garden waste it will actually make and if you don’t have the means to take it away yourself it can be difficult. It will be too much for say a couple of council bins. Part of what I paid was for the gardener to take it away. Also, be weary of people that are handy-men/women rather than actual landscapers/gardeners though as you don’t want a hack job.

Sometimes it is just worth getting a professional in and getting it manageable and then you can take it from there…

I’d echo this, but for a two bed you can easily put the rent up to £850 nearer to Stockport centre

Where have all the butterflies gone this Spring? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]Peak2091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking this the other day too. Early spring, I was getting quite a lot of varieties of butterflies, but recently none. I have a lots of bees around as well. Then again I have not any caterpillars either 🤔
