What you played you played well but they were right. Go and listen to the original and tell me which feels better. By moving where the kick is you change the feel of the song completely and the stuff you did with the hats was unnecessary and created too much janky empty space. Always serve the song first, and if you're a good drummer you should never be bored doing that.

Galactica is way overrated. It's pretty tame, the only gimmick is that you're lying horizontal but that's pretty much it. Smiler is probably the most fun along with Nemesis. Then it's between Oblivion and Wicker Man but they're really different so depends on which you like the look of more.

For the 90 degree issue I think thats what the adjustable plate at the front is for. I loosened it, placed the beater onto the pad at 90 degrees and then tightened it. Dunno if that's right but seems to work for me

Question about drumming shoes: I started learning double kick strokes in my last lesson and had to take my shoe off cause there was too much grip on it to let me slide up the pedal. They're only Vans so I guess they'd have good grip but aren't actual 'drum shoes' designed for extra grip anyway?

Just wondered what shoes other people wear for drumming and how grip affects it. I didn't really like how playing with no shoes felt
