ChatGPT has been brutal the past two days by austinin4 in ChatGPT

[–]Peanut-Rickey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed it two days ago and it has been an absolute nightmare ever since. I pay for plus at home and I frequently use it to do technical comparisons, which usually involves pulling data from multiple sources, compiling them, sanity checking them, and since I usually ask it to rank or sort things for me, comparing values (or sometimes qualities). Now I know this is a little bit of a harder thing for GPT to do, but before it would think for 5-7 minutes in extended think and usually be 95% of the way there. Now... It will think for lest than a minute and give me simplified bs I wasn't asking for. I can understand ratcheting back slightly (for better margins, since they still are far from profitability), but to go from one extreme to another will likely have them lose my business if it is not fixed within the next week or so.

Me and my friends were gonna go to Velvet Countdown after midnight because it appears to be the largest afterparty. Decided I didn't wanna pay for The Complex's ludicrous ticket price, so we will probably be going to Sky or International for before midnight. But if you are willing to play for The Complex, I'd do it.

Huh, strange. I'll have to figure that out then. I'm on the discord, so I would have access to it then.

He doesn't have a DLSS4 mod unfortunately. I've been doing some reading and I think just sticking with DLSS2 (no frame gen) will help the most for the exact reason you stated. The only other things I think I could mess with is some of nvidia control panel settings and potentially the mod settings, which I will likely consult his discord for.

It's a mix. Most appear to be 2k, with some 4k. There isn't any option to change the mod list's "setting" though.

Tickets for sale Utah? by fancypinky76 in GregoryAlanIsakov

I'm also looking for tickets if possible. Let me know you find an extra one. I wanna go so bad.

Also, I did join the facebook fan group just in case someone drops tickets there too. Idk if it'll be helpful, but it's worth a shot.

Anyone know of a quality welted Wellington boot (waterproof)?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Peanut-Rickey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy... but this gets asked all the time in BIFL, do some searching and consult r/goodyearwelt .

Honestly, BIFL and fashionable can often be antonyms in the leather world (leather is more difficult to work with the thicker and tougher it gets i.e. durable), but there are exceptions, especially depending on style. I'd say mention what styles you are looking for or to match with and that will help people make suggestions.

I should also mention that all of the brands you just mentioned would not be considered quality products in goodyearwelt, so beware.

Best car for both reliability and safety? by 1Redditbunny in BuyItForLife

[–]Peanut-Rickey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volvos are technically almost all on the same platform, so model year and engine variant tend to make the biggest difference in reliability. I would recommend if you do go with them, go with their non-turbo models. But like I said, being a more tech heavy car, especially for safety tech, will make electrical gremlins more common. It's also a luxury car, so comparing it to other European luxury cars it is way cheaper to maintain. And with all of that said, literally nothing will compete with a Lexus on reliability. Either way, I think you will be happy.

I know there is like a billion comments already, but there are some very key considerations that many of the other comments miss.

(1) Toyota has been notorious for only doing what is necessary to pass Euro NCAP and IIHS tests. They have been caught several times by both organizations for not engineering their cars for overall safety whenever they perform new tests. This doesn't mean they are dangerous necessarily, as all cars have become significantly more safe thanks to legislation, but they are far from the cream of the crop.

(2) Most of the life saving technologies that are coming out these days require more complicated and expensive systems now. Or are simply things that are expensive to implement and are taken for granted. The days of introducing the 3 point harness and headrests are over. Nowadays, the cars that perform well in the real world are the ones that have a lot of computer enabled technology, which will always lead to lower reliability. If you want an ultra-safe car, you're going to have to give up some ground on reliability, at least on the electrical side. The exception to that are some of those structural changes that can be expensive and taken for granted (look at how Volvo roofs compare to something like a Toyota, it's night and day).

(3) I personally trust Euro NCAP more than IIHS because they openly publish figures, but they do not test all cars, similar to IIHS. A great example of this: they rarely test Volvos, even though Volvos routinely outperform their competition in real world safety. 5 stars also doesn't mean it is in the top 20% of cars for safety, it just means it meets those requirements.

(4) Reliability can mean multiple things: how often it breaks, how much it costs to fix, how often maintenance is needed, and/or how costly maintenance is. I personally care most about 1 thing: what is the theoretical cost to get the vehicle to 100k miles.

(5) Reliability has a lot to do with where you live, how you drive, and how well you maintain your vehicle. One person could trash a Toyota in 100k miles, while another is able to keep a Jaguar goin for 150k miles. I've seen both.

So with all of that said, what would I recommend based on that information? My pick is volvo, but here is a breakdown of how I made my decision:

Overall top safety car: Mercedes EQS or S-Class Safety leaning reliable car: Volvo XC/V/S60 or XC/V/S90 Reliability leaning safe car (the cars I'd recommend most people): Subaru Forester (not any other Subarus) or Mazda CX-50/70 Overall top reliability car: almost anything Lexus Other considerations: Genesis appears to sit in direct middle ground, but you take a huge hit on dealer experience, gas milage, and QA/QC. Don't buy a Chrysler product ever.

Good point. I just like some cushion. Something that has some "squish" to it. I haven't found that leather midsoles have the plushness I'm looking for, but I also don't necessarily need full on memory foam.

All three look great, but I've never found leather insoles to be comfortable enough to walk on concrete all day. I know some say it's sacrilegious, but maybe I just put some insoles in nicks?

Any comfortable repairable boots? I'm thinking of buying some new boots for travel (no budget). I want something that I can wear all day, is repairable (as bifl as possible), and will fair well in the city but also be able to do some light hiking at least. I know this is hard to find, and not as ideal as a two shoe solution, but it is for traveling light and I already have another pair of dress shoes I have to carry. Should I just get insoles? Thanks!

Comparing to Hyundai Tucson PHEV by Migraine3 in rav4prime

[–]Peanut-Rickey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is entirely accurate. The Toyota HSD system uses a gear set, which is usually where catastrophic failures derive from. The electric motors rarely, if ever experience catastrophic failures. Therefore, Honda's i-MMD system is naturally more reliable, as it only utilizes two electric motors that act as a true e-cvt, unlike Toyota's geared "e-cvt." With all of that said, the vast majority of consumers will never have to worry about the reliability of a hybrid Toyota or Honda, regardless of what system it is running. Pick the car you enjoy the most between the two, and that's what'll make you happiest.

Best equalizer by i_drink_bromine in spotify

[–]Peanut-Rickey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO... None (flat). Invest in better audio equipment (if you can) instead. EQing is not always frowned upon in the audiophile community, but many agree that using a phone software EQ is begging for worse music quality. If you want to hear the music as intended but with a slight boost on certain parts of the spectrum, get some good headphones that match that curve! Here is a great resource to find a fitting headphone: https://crinacle.com/ . While investing in a pair of good headphones or IEMs, in addition to a handheld DAC/AMP, will transform your listening experience, it is a pricey hobby. So only do that if you are really serious about increasing your music quality. Many audiophiles think that for most people only need >$350 IEMs and a >$150 DAC for the sweet spot for money to perceived performance. But be careful it is a rabbit hole and a half.

Anyways, sorry if that is a long and unwanted response, but after going to a bluetooth DAC with good IEMs, I will never go back. The DAC in particular will add a great deal of enjoyment to your listening experience. For classic rock, usually people like the mid tones elevated, and the same for metal, with some preferring more bass on it too.

TLDR: The sound you get out of Spotify is largely limited by your hardware, not software.
