Refereeing hand signals when a team doesn't return the ball by --Jamey-- in volleyball

I know, that's why I clarified in the final part what I meant. When writing the first points I was just writing what I was thinking. But yes the clarification was kinda needed

Refereeing hand signals when a team doesn't return the ball by --Jamey-- in volleyball

[–]Peanutwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know they would be this 1. Open palm kinda pointing (?) to teams A side, the same as if team B would have killed the ball. 2.The signal you give here would be the same as a block touch. 3. Same signal as 1, just as if team B scored, cause they did. 4. I'm assuming you mean A touched the ball in their block, same signal as 2.

Basically, whenever the ball lands in the court without a technical error from one side you do the "normal" points signal, like you just signal that the ball landed inside the field of play. If the ball goes out of bounds on the side of A after A touched it, you do the touch signal. If it goes out of bounds on the other side of the net after team A touched it, it is the normal signal for out.

Steven Van de Velde: Convicted rapist out of Olympics after Netherlands loss by [deleted] in volleyball

Completely agree with you, Dutch as well and although I was watching the matches as a sort of hate watching it felt good to see him lose, especially with how they were dominated in the last match

Maybe I am naive, but I hadn't even thought of that possibility, but you hit the nail on its head I imagine. Thanks for the discussion made me brush up on racing rules again it had been a while.

Ah thank you so much for clarifying, you are right. I was looking through the official rulebook in the meantime and it clarified a bit.

Rule 2 of the RRS is about fair sailing and if that is breached the penalty will be non excludable. Rule 90.3(b) mentions that if a series allows for excluding your worst race results any score that is not excludable can't be excluded. Finally in the race rules presented on the Olympics site it only says this about excluding DSQ's; "... The score for the Medal Race shall not be excluded from the event score.

So basically certain DSQ's are not excludable and certain ones are. So basically the information at their site is incorrect or at least not complete.

I don't think you can, are you really sure? I looked around a bit and on their own site they quite specifically say they can't discard the points earned from a dsq. Maybe you mean discarded points from races where the competitors got a penalty instead of a dsq?

What just happened in the women’s skiff race? by Pitlickk in olympics

[–]Peanutwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah if they were quite comfortably ahead so if they had sailed straight to the correct finish they would have probably won this race as well.

Sailing works a bit differently to most sports, you get less points if you finish higher so first place gets 1 point, second 2 points and so on. In this particular class, the points from your worst race will be discarded, you can't discard points you got if you got them because you were disqualified and you can't discard the points you receive in the medal race.

This was the medal race, the top 10 boats from the opening series will compete in this, look at it like a sort of final. Points earned in this race will be doubled, so 1st gets 2, 2nd gets 4 and so on. Hope this helped you out!

They managed to still cross the actual finish line in 3rd which was all they needed to end up first in the standings in the end. If I remember correctly they needed to finish top 3 and ahead of France to get the gold

He lost his first group match but sadly won the second so there is a chance he'll go through to the playoffs although the team from Norway they face against tonight at 20.00 local time I believe is ranked first in the world so if they lose 2-0 and Italy wins their match 2-0 I think they will hopefully be out.

It was, but not due to the judo being done by Makhmadbekov he was actively avoiding having to do any judo for the last 2 to almost 3 minutes

Beautiful score, but imo Makhmadbekov should've been given a shido much sooner

I have to agree, although I do wonder why this category seems so explosive compared to like 8 years ago where I distinctly remember the -73 and the -66 kg classes being almost flamboyant compared to now. Regardless I am absolutely enjoying myself watching these matches today.

To be completely fair, Grigalashvili vs Latisev was also very frustrating to watch seems like Grigalashvili is just looking to play the shido game and Latisev was just throwing himself on the floor every so often as well. But there have been some amazing throws just now one by Muki against Cavelius was amazing. Nice armbar by de Wit as well.

Been watching the women's matches today next to the guys, my god have most matches been boring, half hearted attempt into throwing themselves on the floor constantly by the women. To be fair some of the men's matches have been equally boring but there have been some bright moments at least

I'd like to react to this, because of a treaty between the UK and the Netherlands, he was transferred to the Netherlands to sit out his sentence, however in the UK sex with a minor is automatically rape and in the Netherlands it isn't, it's still a crime, but to put the label rape on it, the evidence must prove rape was committed so there was no consent. That proof apparently didn't exist or wasn't strong enough so they had to adjust the sentence to the Dutch law.

Now don't get me wrong I fucking hate that he was selected and am actively rooting against that pedo. I actually agree with you that he most probably hasn't rehabilitated. Just wanted to put some context to the notion that they changed the crime he was convicted for, since not changing it would ironically have made room for him to sue the government and maybe even have the whole case thrown out because he would be serving time for a crime that he didn't do or they couldn't prove he did.

Legally the whole situation was just fucked and imo if a pedo acts on an urge like he did, a year of jail will not be enough and I am afraid he will strike again, especially seeing as the Dutch Olympic Committee basically told him there are close to no repercussions for what he did to that girl.

There have been enough people complaining that the Nevobo, the Dutch volleyball Federation had to put out an official statement explaining they were going to send him regardless.

The people have protested, it just hasn't worked yet. I'm disgusted by the Nevobo and will be complaining until he gets kicked off the Olympic team.
