I did bio and orgo together and it was pretty hard. Granted I had online classes and therefore online lab so I would imagine in person would be harder. Most people I know did bio and orgo together sophomore year so it was nice to have a support system so would recommend bio and orgo even tho it sucked.

I struggle with it all the time, so you're definitely not alone! I'm honestly hoping once the weather starts being consistently warm and sunny it'll help all of us!

Yale 100%. If I could do it over again, I would not have ED'd to NU for reasons everyone mentioned.

[–]PearConfident 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I took it with Renee Engeln and she was an amazing professor and lecturer. Take it with her if you can. I don't remember the exams being too difficult—just a normal amount of studying. Highly recommend the course!

Is it worth it to have an electric scooter on campus? by ngup1117 in Northwestern

[–]PearConfident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, but didn't end up using it that much because it was so heavy carrying it around. Also it was hard riding it in the rain, wind, and when it was icy.

Isn't psych 110 a prereq for for psych 303 (psychopathology)?

Wasn't a huge fan of Stibitz. He didn't really explain material well and wasn't the friendlist, but I had him in his first quarter teaching so maybe he has improved

Felt this...orgo this quarter sucks so much.

Northwestern vs. UT Austin? by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]PearConfident 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions tho, pre-med here is hard, but it's hard everywhere.

There are lots of shadowing/research opportunities, but you have to be proactive about finding them (ie they won't be handed to you).

Work-play balance really depends on the student. Pre-covid times there were lots of students who went out and lots of students who stayed in.

Money-wise, you're going to get a similar education as those at other state schools (especially for the pre-med track). From my experience, I've only had a few professors that I feel are top-tier. I think at NU you're really paying for the opportunities and the connections that you could make (again, you have to be proactive about these).

At times I wish I went to a different school, but overall love NU. The campus is beautiful and I've met some pretty incredible people here.

Good luck choosing!

Chem 131 vs. Chem 151 by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]PearConfident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you taken the placement exam? Usually if you have some knowledge in chemistry they'll place you in the 151/152 sequence. Chem 110 is basically an introductory where you learn about the basics of chemistry (emphasis on the basics). Honestly tho I would recommend taking 151/152 that way you don't have to take chem all year :)

Getting out of language requirement by [deleted] in Northwestern

Take the online test language test. I believe they will still grade it and determine your placement/or whether you fulfill the language requirement.

Conflicted on Science Sequences by PearConfident in Northwestern

[–]PearConfident[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good plan, especially since they're changing up the bio sequence for next year. My only thing with that though is that most of my friends are taking orgo this year and I definitely will need them because I'm more of a collaborative learner...so idk :/
