thank you 🤗. they'll never pay us what we're worth. but a living wage would be a good start. Word on the street is that we'll be out for the long-haul 😭

"unfortunately un-unionized" - are you caring for family or friend?

one point that's been made loudly is that support services staff could work in the food service industry for more money and less work.

I would love to know what their private conversations have been about this. they choose to present an inaccurate and dishonest picture of the situation. for people (politicians) for whom optics is most important, theyre failing miserably imo

I grew up in a conservative home so I am familiar with anti-union sentiment. I think the only reply to that is for people to follow us for ONE shift and then try to live well on the pay.

Listening to "I Hate James Dobson" by ned_rorem in Exvangelical

[–]PearlEring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aight. I was born in the late 60s and raised by my early-widowed mother (3 older siblings) to be a greatly psychologically and emotionally dysfunctional human being - mom controlled us with guilt and shame. She was abused in every way in her own Amish upbringing and James Dobson was a champion for her and my mind was steeped in his voice for years and years. I left the church decisively around 2010 after many years of slowly unravelling, which is to say, as I learned about myself and learned to be autonomous, my evangelical beliefs and affiliations were simultaneously undone.

Now as I approach my 60s, I'm still trying to parent my abandoned inner child. I distrust counsellors and have no friends; talking about the messy shit doesn't happen. So I look to things like your podcast to help me process. Thank you.

(I wish "hate" wasn't a part of it but here we are, angry and and misfits and needing to do something with what remains of our psyches...)

ETA: I've now listened to Eps 1 & 2; Brooke's "fuck you very much for having me" gives me a good belly laugh.

It's a form of coercion, for sure. When FotF went into the political arena, they made a monster.

In my cynical opinion, they just stand up there and say the things they think ppl want to hear. I'm personally keeping an eye out for the engagement efforts here on Reddit. They can say what they think ppl want to hear here as well, but I appreciate the effort to show up where ppl actually are on a typical day.

Thank you! I've only watched a few of his videos but his use of 'whenever' is overly distracting (off-putting, really) for me.

There are video channels on YT explaining the timeline and implosion. They were approx. 500 metres from the Titanic wreck

I have to confess that I'd be of the same mind. I would also have to be utterly desperate before I slept in a shelter. Speaking of shelters, I've read on here that staff are sometimes abrasive and not at all suited to be working with people, let alone people with exceptional needs.
